Na'er

Chapter 19 — Na'er

Na'er was on a quest to search for the guy who saved them from the bad guys. She explored the streets in wonder as if she had never been outside.

Soon enough, as if fated, Na'er saw the guy who defeated the bad guys to save them.

Na'er wanted to express her gratitude, but she was too nervous and shy to say those words. Amidst her internal struggles, she belatedly realized she was following the guy towards an abandoned factory.

Flustered, she quickly hid behind a stone pillar and was still contemplating on what to say.

It was then—

"You guys keep following me around. What business do you want with me?"

Na'er felt her heart skipping a beat upon thinking she got caught.

Yet those words weren't for her.

A group of gangsters emerged from the dark while wielding scary blades. Just based on their weapons. Na'er realized they were much more dangerous than the bad guys before.

'I should call for help!'

She quickly decided, but her heart sank upon hearing the reason they wanted to kill the guy.

They wanted to kill the guy because he crippled the man who was forcefully trying to take advantage of her before.

Na'er felt extremely guilty as she realized it was her fault.

The one-sided fight soon began.

Contrary to her expectations, the guy wasn't overwhelmed despite being outnumbered by the terrifying gangsters.

Rather, he fought back like a wild beast, slaughtering the gangsters one-sidedly.

She felt awe and amazement, but those were overshadowed by fear as she felt the guy's unadulterated bloodlust. And as she witnessed the gruesome sight of body being torn and split apart, her stomach was flipped upside down with her mind blanking out.

That wasn't the end.

The guy continued to slaughter them in the most gruesome and horrific way with the sole intention of installing fear and terror deeply into the bones.

One by one, they turned into disgusting meat paste from his fists that was even deadlier than a hammer.

All of the gangsters met their end, leaving the guy standing alone, completely drenched with blood and flesh.

The only thing Na'er could do was blankly gaze at the guy's face. Her own face was extremely pale, scared silly by his expression that was devoid of emotions, and those red dead eyes that were even darker than blood.

Those eyes…. burned with unparalleled rage that swallows everything in flames.

"Hmmmp….!"

Na'er soon covered her mouth to stop herself from puking her bile out. She was afraid. The scene of the guy slaughtering them so cruelly keeps replaying inside her mind.

Now… she was afraid of being discovered by him.

As she prayed intensely, a chilling voice resounded.

"There's still someone. Show yourself now."

He commanded roughly with hints of bloodlust.

With a trembling body, Na'er felt her blood running cold as she accidentally let out a squeal, her eyes soon becoming watery as a cold, sharp breath touched her neck.

Slowly, Na'er turned her head around, only to see a demonic face lacking any emotions greeting her whole eyes.

"There you are."

A chilling voice whispered into her ears, causing her to feel her knees going weak and dropping to the ground.

Tears slowly fell from her eyes.

The guy crouched down to match her level before deeply gazing into her eyes that were similar to beautiful gems.

"Hey." He uttered while holding her chin so she couldn't look anywhere else other than him. "What happened here, it's now our own little secret."

The guy then let out a frightening smile that caused Na'er to shiver uncontrollably.

"Don't tell anyone, not to a single soul, understand?"

"...yes.." Na'er nodded pitifully as her tears continued to fall silently.

"Good." The guy slowly patted her head with an expressionless face.

And as if reaching her limit, Na'er relaxed her body as she fainted.

Looking at her suddenly fainting, I knew It was dangerous to leave her alone like this.

"I don't know why she fainted. I tried my best to reassure her."

I even tried to gently smile. Maybe she had a weak heart.

"Anyway, I hope she doesn't develop a trauma…"

What she experienced today wasn't that good.

Contemplating for a while, I decided to carry her to a safer place and wait for her to wake up.

However, I soon managed to encounter Tang Wulin.

He looked really ragged and exhausted with his hands being swollen and bloody.

"..Na'er!" Tang Wulin suddenly exclaimed when he saw the girl in my arms. "What happened to her!?"

"She just fell asleep. Is she your relative?"

"Na'er is my sister…"

"I'll leave her in your hands then." I gave him the sleeping girl called Na'er.

However, I doubt he could carry her properly with his current state.

"Mnn, thank you."

Tang Wulin carried Na'er with trembling arms, his eyes filled with worries instead of pain or exhaustion.

"..."

Seeing such a sight, I was reminded of my older sister who was always worried about a childish brat like me.

My face grew heavy as I silently closed my eyes that were faintly trembling.

I wanted to find a place where I could be alone…

Since I no longer have business with them, I quickly departed with the sole intention of doing something to bury this crippling emotion even if just for a moment.

Na'er slowly woke up while being carried home by Tang Wulin. Her brother's back was warm and comfortable. It felt like those scary things were just a nightmare.

"You're awake, Na'er!" Tang Wulin exclaimed happily. "And what happened to you? You were unconscious and carried by Nai An! Ah, Nai An is the name of the guy that saved us.

"Nai An…!"

Na'er widened her eyes.

It wasn't a dream!

She then remembered the promise she made with Nai An.

"Nothing… I just felt tired and fell asleep before I knew it."

Na'er chose to lie for Tang Wulin's sake.

"You need to be careful. You can't just fall asleep outside!" Tang Wulin scolded her warmly.

"Mnn." Na'er nodded while burrowing her head into his back.

Her mind was riddled with the mysterious and cold appearance of Nai An.

However, upon realizing the bad state of Tang Wulin, she grew extremely worried about him.

Was he being bullied at work?

That night, Na'er and Tang Wulin were scolded worriedly by their parents.

And Meng Tian was even called, but Tang Wulin was determined to continue forging to earn money.

"Why couldn't I detect the presence of that girl…?"

I was proud of my sharp senses and powerful perception, but today was an important lesson to not be overly reliant on them.

Anyway, her presence was something special since she blends naturally with nature, making it hard to perceive her presence that was favored by elements.

"Na'er…"

I decided to remember her name, but she wasn't that important now since I have to reflect on the fight earlier.

There was the need to analyze and review what happened back then to determine my shortcomings and further improve on it.

This introspection was something I habitually did everyday before I go to rest and sleep.

All was for me to get stronger and reach a higher realm.

During the battle, I simply remember swinging the greatsword around. My boxing skills were still inadequate along with the usage of Spirit Heart.

I lack valuable experiences since the people I've mostly killed were weak.

"How do Spirit Masters fight?"

In the end, I decided to spend the time in the library of Red Mountain Academy. I'm sure it contains a lot of valuable information about spirit masters and martial techniques.

As for my Spirit Heart, I need to work on getting familiar while using it. And instead of focusing on raising my cultivation level, I need to focus on refining it to produce a much denser and richer Soul Blood.

It was because I burn a crazy amount of Soul Blood whenever I activate my Spirit Heart.

Soul Blood passively reinforces my whole body which consumes it per second.

Trying to stop the passive reinforcement was impossible because I can't control the Soul Blood in my veins.

It was like controlling the flow of a river.

The only solution was to produce a much denser and richer Soul Blood capable of making me last longer than simply raising the amount.

Quantity over quality.

As for its two natal abilities…

"First Natal Ability: Battle Fury." I mumbled as red mist floated around me. "It really resembles blood…"

Anyway, this natal ability worked really simple.

Whenever I deal an attack, I gain a rage aura which stacks until it reaches the limit, which is currently ten rage auras.

Rage auras are in the form of red mist that coats my body, providing more substance and weight on my attacks.

However, I knew it possessed a much more deeper meaning than that, as I have a vague understanding over the rage auras.

"They're the physical manifestation of my rage, a physical intent born from Life-Death, that has the power to influence reality."

And by consuming the accumulated rage auras, it was possible to unleash powerful special moves.

A special move wherein the rage intent is the most important force, capable of destroying the enemy's mind and body, burning their existence with the flames of my rage.

That's why Demonic Art was a suitable name for the special moves.

Most importantly, Demonic Art uses the same principle as Heart Of Steel.

The stronger my rage, the stronger it becomes.

"Master still helps me to this day…" I thought of Hu Yu and hoped she would happily rest in peace.

As for The Second Natal Ability…

"There would be a time for it…"

A time where I would fall to the deepest part of the abyss.
