Chapter 1Ninjas are Real?

"Ninjas were a very important part of Japan's history. They used to live in clans and were mostly skilled in stealth, but there were rumors that they possessed supernatural powers," said a seemingly middle-aged man, wearing a suit with his hair parted in the middle, addressing a class full of children no older than eleven.

The children were fascinated by the teacher's words. The concept of ninjas was particularly intriguing to them, especially to a boy with glasses, wearing a half-sleeved yellow t-shirt and dark blue shorts. He raised his hand to ask a question. Seeing this, the teacher said, "Yes, Nobita, do you have a question?"

The boy, now identified as Nobita, stood up and asked, "Yes, teacher. Um… where do ninjas live now? And is it true that they can walk on water and walls like on TV?"

As soon as he finished speaking, the entire class erupted in laughter. One student with a long, pointy mouth, resembling that of a fox, and equally pointy hair, spoke up, "Nobita, how can you be such an idiot? You should know that ninjas don't exist anymore. Hahaha."

"Yeah, Suneo is right, Nobita. Why are you so childish? You should know these things," said a fat kid in an orange t-shirt with the letter "G" on it, sitting right behind the boy named Suneo.

Nobita slowly looked around the room, growing embarrassed as the entire class laughed at him. His gaze lingered on a girl in a pink top and skirt, with small twin ponytails. She was trying not to laugh and was chuckling quietly in her seat.

"All right, all right, stop laughing, everyone. Pay attention to the class; I have an announcement to make," the teacher said, smacking his hand on the table to regain the students' attention. The children quickly stopped laughing and turned their serious expressions toward the teacher.

"Ahem, as you all know, today is the last day of school, and your summer vacation starts tomorrow. I want you to come forward one by one to collect your summer homework, which you'll be doing during the holidays," the teacher continued.

The students grumbled upon hearing this, but they still approached the teacher one by one to collect their homework. Nobita also walked toward the teacher, still looking downcast.

As Nobita walked slowly toward the teacher's podium, his head hung in embarrassment, he heard the teacher say something that made him feel even worse. "Nobita, I want you to finish your holiday homework properly this time. I don't want you coming back on the first day of school empty-handed, or I'll have to talk to your parents. It's time you start taking your studies seriously."

Nobita stood there and silently nodded while he heard small snickers of laughter from his classmates behind him. He took the textbooks for his homework from the teacher and walked back to his seat.

Once the teacher finished handing out the homework, the bell rang, marking the end of class and the beginning of the long-awaited summer vacation.

Before the students could start getting up from their seats, the teacher spoke up, "Students, I know you're all excited for summer vacation, but don't forget to study during this time. I hope you all enjoy your vacation, and I'll see you after the holidays." After finishing his speech, he picked up his handbag and walked out of the class, waving and smiling at the students.

As soon as the teacher exited the class, all the students got up from their seats and began collecting their things to go home. Nobita was doing the same when suddenly a hand slammed down heavily on his desk. He looked up to see who it was, and to his surprise, it was Gian, grinning with Suneo standing smugly beside him.

"Nobita, what are you going to do during these summer holidays? Are you going to spend your entire time looking for ninjas?" Suneo asked, laughing loudly. Gian joined in the laughter as well.

"Yeah, Nobita, are you going to learn how to walk on walls from them?" Gian added, still laughing hysterically.

Nobita's face turned red with anger. He was about to lash out at them when another voice chimed in. He looked up to see Shizuka, his childhood friend, with twin ponytails.

"Gian, Suneo, you guys should stop messing around with Nobita. Why do you always have to make fun of him?" Shizuka said, looking both angry and sympathetic. Nobita felt touched that she cared about him.

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Nobita spoke to all of them, "I will prove both of you wrong. I will prove that ninjas are real, no matter what. If I can't do it, I'll walk around the city on my hands!" He yelled towards the end, then grabbed his backpack and stormed out of the classroom. He could hear Gian and Suneo laughing at him from behind, and Shizuka calling his name, but he ignored them all and sprinted towards his home, determined to seek help from his best friend, the only one who could help him out in this situation, as he had countless times before.

Nobita ran as fast as he could, out of breath but still pushing forward. Eventually, he had to stop to catch his breath. As he took a moment to rest, he looked up and froze mid-step. He saw two figures on a rooftop, both wearing strange, colorful clothes.

Unable to see them clearly from such a distance, Nobita moved closer. Once he could see clearly, he noticed that both figures were dressed in ninja attire, but they seemed to be around his age. One of them wore blue ninja clothes with a matching head cover and fishnet clothing underneath. The other wore bright green clothes but had no head cover, revealing black hair with one strand poking backward.

Nobita was shocked to see both of them holding katanas. The one in green moved forward to strike the one in blue, but the blue-clad ninja blocked and pushed him backward. They continued to exchange blows, occasionally throwing shurikens at each other.

Nobita stood there, gaping in disbelief. He couldn't believe they were real ninjas. But then he felt a surge of happiness because now he could prove everyone wrong. He could prove that ninjas were real.

Nobita watched the two figures carefully, trying to follow their movements, but they were too fast for him to keep up. They were like blurs against the sky, leaping from one rooftop to another. Before long, they began moving farther and farther away, and within a few minutes, they were out of his sight entirely.

All Nobita could do was watch them go, a defeated expression on his face. After a few seconds, he regained his composure and stood up straight, determination flaring in his eyes. "I won't give up. I'll find them and prove to everyone that they're real!" he declared with a serious expression and took off towards his home at an impossibly fast speed.

"I'm home!" he yelled as soon as he burst through the door, slamming it shut loudly behind him. In his haste, he didn't even bother to set his shoes down properly; they went flying towards the entrance.

"Doraemon! Doraemon! Where are you?" Nobita continued to shout as he rushed towards the stairs to go to his room.

"Nobita, why are you yelling!" His mother's voice echoed in the background, scolding him. But he paid no attention to her; he was too excited to share the news of the ninjas with Doraemon, his best friend.

He threw open the door to his room and saw Doraemon inside, casually munching on a Dorayaki, looking carefree. Nobita pounced on him and started speaking rapidly, barely giving Doraemon a chance to respond.

Doraemon, a blue, cat-like robot from the 22nd century, has a round body with a white face, belly, and paws. His large, expressive eyes, small red nose, and the lack of ears (which is why he fears mice) make him quite unique. A distinctive red collar with a bell around his neck is attached to a yellow, four-dimensional pocket from which he pulls out various gadgets. His short, round, red tail and visible whiskers complete his iconic appearance.

"Doraemon, you won't believe what happened today! I saw ninjas—real ninjas! They had swords, and they were fighting on the rooftops of houses. They were even jumping from one house to another!" Nobita exclaimed, waving his arms around in exaggerated gestures as he spoke.

Doraemon looked at Nobita and said, "Calm down, Nobita. Tell me what happened from the start. I can't understand you when you talk like this."

Nobita took a deep breath to calm himself and sat down in front of Doraemon. Looking into Doraemon's eyes, he asked, "Doraemon, you believe in me, right?"

"Of course, Nobita, I believe in you. You can tell me what happened," Doraemon replied reassuringly.

Hearing this, Nobita began explaining everything that had happened since he asked the question in the classroom, how he was laughed at, the promise he made to Gian and Suneo, and finally, how he saw two ninjas fighting on the rooftops.

After listening to Nobita's explanation, Doraemon had a complicated look on his face, as if he was deep in thought, with one hand on his head. "Nobita, ninjas aren't real. You must have seen some cats fighting up there," Doraemon said skeptically.

"No, Doraemon! Even you don't believe me? I'm telling you, ninjas are real, and I saw them with my own eyes!" Nobita replied, clearly upset that his friend didn't believe him.

"Nobita, I'm from the future, and I've never heard that ninjas were real. If they were, there surely would have been some news about it in the future," Doraemon reasoned, trying to persuade Nobita.

As they bickered, they heard a voice from downstairs. It was Nobita's mother. "Nobita, come down here! Gian and Suneo are here to see you."

Nobita was confused as to why both of them were there. He and Doraemon got up and went downstairs to meet the duo.

When they reached the bottom of the stairs, they saw Gian and Suneo, both looking almost out of breath. "Gian, Suneo, what are you guys doing here?" Nobita asked, a puzzled look on his face.

"Nobita, we need to talk to you about something," Suneo said, glancing around nervously, as if afraid someone might overhear.

Although Nobita and Doraemon were confused, they led Gian and Suneo up to Nobita's room. Once there, they all sat on the floor.

"Now, can you tell me what happened?" Nobita asked again. In response, Suneo put his hand in his pocket and pulled something out. Nobita recognized it instantly—it was a shuriken.

Before Nobita or Doraemon could say anything, Suneo spoke up, "You won't believe this, but when we were going home, we saw real ninjas running and fighting on the rooftops."

"Wait, you guys saw them too?" Nobita interrupted, looking at the duo with expectant eyes.

Suneo looked surprised and turned to Nobita. "You saw them too, Nobita? That means we weren't the only ones!"

Doraemon, now shocked, said, "So this means… ninjas are real?!"

Nobita then turned to Doraemon with a triumphant look and said, "See, I told you they were real! Do you believe me now?"

Doraemon had an apologetic expression while Nobita looked smug. Nobita then addressed Gian and Suneo, "I told you guys before that ninjas were real and that I would prove it to you. So, do you admit that you were wrong?"

Gian and Suneo both looked awkward before Gian finally spoke up. "I admit we were wrong, Nobita, but don't you think this is a great opportunity for us to go on a big adventure to find ninjas?"

"Yes! Do you know how famous we would become if we could prove to the world that ninjas aren't just a myth? We'd have everything—we'd become stars!" Suneo added, his eyes shining with excitement as he imagined the moment when everyone would look up to him, with cameras flashing all around.

From the looks on Gian and Suneo's faces, it was clear that they had discussed this before coming to Nobita's house.

Nobita and Doraemon also started picturing the moment when they would meet real-life ninjas, though their motivations were clearly different from Suneo's. The group began making plans, discussing the details of their adventure, and all of them agreed to embark on the quest. They decided to meet at their usual playground in three days.

In the meantime, they agreed to complete their school homework and inform Shizuka about the plan. After reaching a final agreement, Gian and Suneo left Nobita's house. Nobita and Doraemon then returned to their own activities, their minds buzzing with the adventure ahead.
