4 The Steps of a giant

"Laufey... It's approaching..." One of the giants asked nervously. Loud murmurs now surrounding the throne room.

"Silence!" Laufey exclaimed. He did not know the temperament of the 'Being' so he hastily told his subjects to quiet down.

"I already know..." Laufey muttered annoyed of course he could see it approaching, the scouts had told him before as well. Sitting on his throne he waited patiently. While he could've sent the children to Midgard he avoided doing so.

The teleporter was one way and if he could somehow bargain with the beast he may able to avoid this walking cataclysm. He didn't want his peoples' children to be separated from their fathers after all. Besides Asgard would hunt them down regardless. if Word got to Asgard that the frost giants had retreated to Midgard they would happily seize the chance to slaughter them.

Their image was what stopped them from mindlessly annihilating them all. Without a reason, how could Odin possibly send his people to die in his wars? How many had died under his banner for strength and prosperity? Too many.

Feeling his hands shake he looked on in disappointment at himself. It was the first time he had been beaten so easily. Even Odin who's power was above his did not have this much strength. While the man could defeat him, he could not beat him with his mere presence. This being was far more dangerous. Feeling the heat enter the throne room Laufey unconsciously pushed himself back with his back now straight up. All members of his troop trying to avoid being close to the entity moved back slightly.

The Doom slayer scanning the palace found hundreds of frost giants gathered with a giant sitting atop a podium with his throne backed to the wall. The palace was mostly made of stone supported by ice. The Doom slayer unbothered made his way up.

"What brings you here... God of the flame?" Laufey asked for this beings mere presence sent more harm to him than any attack he took from Odin. Although he was large and the being was small he wasn't quick to judge. The being stood at 7ft 2 while he stood at 60ft tall yet he was able to make him feel as if he was an ant. The dried blood marks on his armour also told a story. Getting off his seat he bowed down to the mighty figure. The others surprised looked on stunned before following suite. The louds thuds of their knees dropping sending shockwaves around the throne room.

"Damn it..." Some muttered as they hated the feeling of bowing to another. It was a reason they had not submitted to Odin the Allfather. For if they did it would mean to lay down their pride.

While this surprised many, he was willing to lay down his pride for his people. The god could prove to be more of an asset then an enemy if he were able to take this in his favour. While he knew he couldn't the thought of being able to just wield a slither of this gods strength made him smile.

'The things I could do... With a slither of this gods' might, I could destroy Asgard and it's people.' He thought smiling.

"I am Laufey, king of Jotunheim. Please forgive me for my rude behaviour. If there is anything you want I can provide," Laufey announced. Unknown to him the Doom slayer did not understand his words but instead moved his attention to an object emitting unknown energy.

The energy seeming to contrast that of Surtur's. Finding the energy under the seat of Laufey he ripped it open to find a glowing blue casket made of glass and smooth stone. The Doom slayer now with the casket in his hands allowed Vega to scan its contents and reviewed key information on creating a new weapon. Smiling he extracted a good amount of the energy into a vile before chucking it into his inventory.

"Sir... He's grabbing the casket..." His guard next to him called out the urge to tackle the fire god growing. Clenching his fists he awaited his Kings command to strike it down even if it meant to lay down his life.

"Stand down. Did you forget what this god is cable of? Restrain yourself. Whatever happens today we will deal with it later. For now, we must survive." Laufey whispered. Still bowing he dared no move as his instincts told that if he dared to retaliate he would be instantly burnt to a crisp along with his people as well.

"But sir what if he steals the casket? So what of our people? Should we not at least fight back? Has your pride fallen that far?" The guard exclaimed.

"Silence! If the god hears us what will you do?" Laufey questioned.

"Violence will only get us so far... We have grown far too complacent. I have realised that we are not a powerful as we once thought... If he destroys the casket or takes it then so be it. At least our people will live to see another day." Laufey advised.

"Weakling! You dishonour our pride as giants! I will fight. I know of my fate but so be it Laufey. I will not bow to another besides' you." The guard argued.

"Then bow to me! You idiot, your pride blinds you! Do you not realise that with your death you may trigger a massacre!" Laufey hissed.

"Then it is a sacrifice I'm willing to take. I'd rather die a wild beast than a tamed dog!" The guard exclaimed rushing the Doom slayer. The Doom slayer finished with his scans on the casket placed it back down and stared at the giant making his way.

Whipping his pistol he shot the giant's leg sending its head straight down. Now on the ground, it groaned in pain. Noticing the other frost giants acting indifferent he noted the outliers. Seeing some of the others looking in hatred towards his general direction he needed to send a clear message to the rest of them. Dragging the injured frost giant from the head he walked slowly towards the rest. Although he would spare the giant it's sin was to try to kill him.

"What are you doing! Save me! Do you not see that we will die a dogs death! Laufey you bastard are you going to just-," The giant gurgled, blood coming from his mouth as the Doom slayer slapped its throat to shut it up. Seeing not anyone move an inch he closed his eyes in defeat.

Raising the giants head up he quickly slammed its head against the stone. The strength of his push shocking everyone as the blood, bone, and brain matter sprayed everywhere. Throwing the corpse of the Giant down he noticed anger being quickly turned to despair. Making his way down the small steps he stopped as he felt an energy figure flare come from behind the throne. Turning his head he felt a large energy signature coming from approximately 40 metres.

"No! What are they doing... I thought I told them to wait for my command. Why are they activating the portal so soon!" Laufey muttered scared.

The Doom slayer walking towards the energy signature was immediately stopped by the giants as they were now fighting to allow their kin to escape. Laufey being the closest was the first to jump into action. The Doom slayer sensing their newfound hope to fight looked on confused. Looking at their crimson eyes he finally understood.

Those were the looks of a protector. They were attempting to protect something... But what? Though there attempts to hold him back were quickly thwarted he respected their resilience. As the Doom slayer continued to knock them back he pulled the throne chair to the side revealing a hidden room. Looking in he saw children and female giants near a portal.

"Save the children!!!" Laufey exclaimed as he attempted to tackle the Doom slayer. He understood that attacking him with weapons would be useless as it would be quickly destroyed. Instead, he would use his body to hold him down.

"What are they doing... Move to the portal!" Laufey shouted.

The Doom slayer Seeing the children scared looked at him as if he was a demon. Too scared to move they stood still in fear and dispear. Though he ignored their stares as he instead looked at the portal. Moving forward the Giants who were pushed back still attempted to tackle him. Reaching the portal the giants laid on the ground exhausted after they were forcibly pushed back.

The Doom slayer near the portal found that it was similar to Surturs' but different. Looking back at Laufey he dropped a gift its sound leaving a loud thud to all. It had been far too long since he had met a warrior brave enough to protect another even in the face of despair. Too many on earth had left their 'Loved ones' to save themselves. He had seen it on earth and hell. A human and demons fear were the same after all. Going through the portal he was transported elsewhere.

"Thank the nine realms" Laufey muttered exhausted.

Seeing a large blade stabbed into the ground, he was shocked. Looking closer he found Its designs were horrific yet terrific. It stood at 30 metres long and was emitting a cold and demonic feel. The middle of the guard had the horn of a beast etched onto it. It was almost comparable to the power of the frost giants of the past. Trying to pick it up he found it heavy. It seems that he was going to have to train more.
