34 What's wrong with Maryline

As the tall lady laid a few spells on Maryline, her face slowly eased and so did the flames. Suddenly, the flames disappeared and Maryline collapsed in the tall lady's arms. Don, Elijah and the others quickly ran to her side.

As they came closer they could see that Maryline's Brunette hair had turned a fiery red.

"What happened to her?" Don and Elijah said in unison.

The tall women looked at them slightly before walking down the stadium.

" I am taking her to the infirmary. She will be alright soon."Don and Elijah could only watch as they saw the lady take Maryline inside.

At this point the noise had died down and all that was left was a crowd full of silence and confusion. Cruise could only sigh as he saw the mess that had been created by his curiosity.

"Maybe I should have stopped when I had a chance. Now Rukville has caught another talent under my nose..." Cruise said as he sighed.

"Ok shows over. MagnoFinch team have won." As this was heard other then the first and second years, everyone else took the news well. The second years on the other hand were more then a little upset.

"Why?"

"What bullshit. There is still 2 more matches."

" This is unfair" As they rioted, the concious members of the Beach team also opposed of the results. Only some second years who had caught on to the situation kept quiet.

Cruise looked annoyed as he saw this.

"For cheating in the second round where the mage Derk, used magic to confuse the warrior, Drew even though he was not in the match, Beach team is automatically disqualified."

As the second years heard this, they quickly became silent. Team Beach quickly went from angry to embarrassed and afraid. With such a tainted record, their reputation would quickly plummet. Cruise sighed as he became tired of just the sight of the second years.

" Now everyone out. Out. " Everyone took this as their signal to leave. As everyone left, Don and Elijah sprinted to the infirmary. The others quickly followed behind as they saw this.

When they reached the infirmary, they were stopped by one of the nurses on standby.

"I am sorry but you can't enter the room of Maryline Finch." Elijah looked impatient as he heard this.

"What now?! Why can't we see her?" Elijah asked. The nurse sighed as she shook her head.

"She is way too unstable. Teacher Rukville was able to stabilize her for a bit but she needs to go through multiple high spells in order to trully stabilize her."

As the brothers heard this, their minds went blank.

"What is wrong with her?" Don asked.

"We still don't know specifically the problem but we do know that her soul seems to be very erratic."

"So." Don said hesitantly.

"What will happen if she does not stabilize?" The nurse put her head down as she heard this.

"...Let's hope she does stabilize." She replied.

"..." Don and Elijah decided to wait until they hopefully healed Maryline. The others did not mind waiting and stayed beside the two brothers.

Although they had only met the brothers a week ago, they all felt a strong affinity with the Finch siblings and wanted to make sure Maryline was ok.

At times, Mark seemed even more concerned about Maryline then the others.

Finally, after a few hours, the tall lady named Rukville came out of Maryline's room. The gang quickly surrounded her as she walked by.

"How is Maryline?"

"Is she ok?!"

"Is she hurt?"

As she was bombarded with questions, she stayed calm. Finally she answers back.

"She is ok, She has just passed the Fire emblem test." As she said this, other then Elijah and Don, everyone exclaimed in shock.

"T-The fire emblem?" Mark almost fainted once he heard this.

"No way." Lars exclaimed.

"What is this test?" Elijah asked.

"The goal for all noble men and women. My current goal as well. That girl actually..." Mark could barely speak as his mind wondered.

Rukville turned to The confused Elijah and Don as she began to explain.

" The Fire emblem is the mark of a great lineage. One would become engulfed with a small percentage of its great power and will have to face a great calamity.Once the calamity has passed they will receive the right to obtain the inheritance. This not only applies to fire type. There are also earth emblems, light emblems and more."

"I see so, Maryline has obtained the right to inherit one of our ancestors powers?" Don inquired.

"Indeed. It seems like one of your ancient ancestors was a powerful fire user. In truth Fire emblems are rare outside of nobility since most legends gain a noble rank or were already nobles. The fact that you were from such a secluded area and your blood had such a powerful lineage in it is quite rare. It is even rarer for those living in secluded areas to pass the test... If you did not have the protection of the aegis..." As soon as she said this part, Don quickly sprang up.

"What do you mean the protection of the aegis?"

"I know that your Town was protected by the aegis during the beast horde and was most likely inhabiting the area for a while. I checked Marylines body, it had been protected. For her to be tested so early after awakening is rare. Without knowledge on the fire emblem test and no one to guide her, it would have been hard on her...If her test was not forcibly suppressed by a knowledgable deity like the aegis, she would have most definately died that day."

As Elijah and Don heard this, their hearts went cold.

"Died?" Don said to no one as his mind wondered. 'If I hadn't...then..."

"C-Can we see her?" Elijah asked as his body shook.

Rukville nodded slowly. At her approval, everyone quickly ran into Maryline's room. Elijah was about to as well but he was stopped by Rukville.

"What is it now?" Elijah asked worriedly.

"As I said before, The blood of a powerful Fire user flows through the blood of you Finches. Due to its power, it is almost 100% certain that you will all gain the fire element. It seeks powerful family members and usually will show up once it thinks you are worthy enough. I have seen your skills, it is only a matter of time." After she said this, she handed Elijah a scroll.

"This is a common technique used to pass the fire emblem test. If you practise it occasionally you might actually initiate the test. That is, if you are lucky." After saying this she left cooly. As Elijah saw her leave, he gripped tightly on to the scroll and ran to Maryline's side.
