1 Chapter I - The mad scientist

If I recall correctly... I was inside my tavern deep in the mountains where I casually work on my formulas. I was so possessed in science that I had tried many things that god might have resented me. As a man whom bestowed his life in science must not believe in god in the first place.

Then something came to my mind. A theory about having alternate dimensions. The thought just won't make me sleep. Hence gave me insomnia.

The day had come. I have gathered all the ingredients that is necessary for my formula. I created a door-- no a portal. But why does it not function. Have I made a false theory?

Then something whispered on my ears. "It needs blood..." the voice had shown me the key for the door to open. I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the kitchen knife placed on my wooden table. I gently placed the knife to my wrist, feeling it's cold steel touching my skin.

and slit my wrist and poured the blood at the door's entrance step. Then a horrifying laughter echoed inside my head. "What have I opened? Where will the door's destination be?" I asked myself. Doubting my research.

I became so madly possessed in science that I destroyed my life. I got divorced to my wife, and have no idea what my only son think of me as a father. He probably resent me. I guess I could not blame him for hating me. I'm not qualified to be a father.

A sudden array of red lights glistened in my vision. I can see the door slowly opening. At first I smiled, then I regret. I saw a dark figure standing on the other side of the door. A hand like shadow appeared, coming nearer and nearer to me.

The shadow grabbed my left foot. The shadow feels hot, yet cold at the same time. I forced myself to move away, but it was futile. I lost a lot of blood. I feel that half of my body is getting weaker.

The last thing I remember was that hand pulling me inside the door which I have created. "Say, pal. You don't look so good. You better find something to eat before night comes." These words woke me up.

I opened my eyes, finding out I was out in open field of wilderness, or to be exact nowhere to be known. Everything was just unreal. I thought that, maybe I was dead. But I proved that was false by slapping my face. The feeling of pain, and blood warming my face proved that.

I'm guessing this is the "alternate dimension" My insane mind was longing for. And suddenly I thought, what is my reason for creating a door? I also answered my question. Maybe I wanted to escape, and ran far away from the real world.

But this is not what I was expecting. A monochromed dimension. I want to go back. But I have no right to long for the real world. After all I wished for this. I reap what I sow.

But dying in an inanimate world does not belong in my list to do. I decided to tame this untamed world and find my way back to the real world. I have many regrets. One is not being a father of my only child. If I'm successful, all of my entangled knots, I will straighten all of it.

On my walk I noticed there were a lot of trees. Where I can use them as a material to build a short-term house in this world. I could also use them for many more. Thus wood is essential for survival. The only problem is I need something sharp to cut down these trees. For example, an axe.

If I am to make an axe. First I need something sharp, a flint for example. I walked all around the forest. Hoping to see sharp stones around. Fortunately, I found three flints lying on the ground, at first I thought what a weird place to find sharp stones. But I ignored the thought of such trivial things.

I also cut down bushes of twigs I saw to use as a handle for the axe. I used grass to bind the flint and twig together. After that, something strange happened. A strange light appeared on my binded axe. It transformed itself after I binded necessary objects to create something I want. It was a fascinating discovery, is it even science? Or something much greater.

After that I continued my objective. After striking the tree a few times. I did not saw it coming. The tree was falling on my direction. It shocked me and I panicked. I did not know what to do hence just closed my eyes. I waited for the pain that which will propably kill me. But fortunately nothing happened. I'm unharmed. I looked to the ground and it surprised me. The tree was cut timber. The surprises just won't stop has it not? I'm terrified. Not knowing what the next surprise will be. Will it be another fortunate discovery? Or something sinister that supposed to be unreal.

And the time has arrived. The time in the earth's rotation which I really hate, night. Especially in this world, being ignorant of what is lurking in the darkness.

I gathered necessary items. Rock, grass, and wood. And there it happened again. It transformed into a camp fire. "Hey..." I turned around and only saw nothing but darkness. "You...You'll die here." The image that's created in my vision and burned in my memory was horrifying. I was sourrounded by crimson glowing eye. "Step back!" I shouted as they got closer to me. Then my life flashed. "No. I need not to be thinking such things." I thought of myself around my warm family instead of being cold and alone in this unknown wilderness.

I just waited for the eyes to came closer and end everything. But they stopped. In my sight, I can clearly see that they are afraid of the light. Thus I placed more logs to the fire as a fuel to expand the brightness of my sorrounding.

As soon as the light touches them they disappear in thin air. I was joyful, discovering something that may help me fight those monsters in the dark gave me a sense of hope.

After that, I waited for the sun to rise again to enlighten the environment. I, Wilson Percival Higgsbury survived one day in a scary world which I have no data, alone and starving.
