1 Prologue

A hundred years ago, existence of merfolk was exposed to the world of human beings due to an incident whereby people found an injured mermaid on the bank of the south sea after a violent rain storm breaking out.

With this breaking news spreading amongst citizens, people started to wonder more about the merfolk or even want to see them in real life. So, some wicked businessmen who could foresee a good cash by making good use of this trending topic started to hire pirates to capture mermaids alive, beginning their plan to bring mermaids as some goods into the business world.

At last, this big plan of theirs succeeded. A huge mass of loaded men and aristocrats in the imperial city came to buy the captured mermaids at auctions with pretty great amount of cash. Just like this, many other merchants started to do a brisk trade in auctioning off mermaids as well.

Those mermaids and mermen who got sold were either killed for their beautiful scales and precious body oil which were later used in beauty products, or to serve as some lowly servants by crying out pearls all day and night.

Just in a short time, this kind of business grew uncontrollably in the empire that even the human emperor had to stop his citizens by making an imperial decree which said all the citizens who sold mermaids or bought more from that day onwards were to be beheaded. Ever since then, not only clients but even criminal mermaids got beheaded right on the spot if citizens were found out keeping mermaids.

The mer-emperor was not satisfied with ways of human emperor handling things. Related to this case, nonstop conflicts happened between human emperor and him which ended up with a great war breaking out. And in this unusual war, countless lives of human warriors were lost, not being able to confront mer-combatants who possessed supernatural powers.

Feeling indignant, the human emperor immediately made a new imperial decree which officially allowed all the citizens to trade in these aqua creatures without any restraints.

Since then, humans captured and sold mermaids like inanimate goods whilst merfolk themselves destroyed all the ships of humans sailing across their territory in south sea.

Later, humans also found out merfolk were not the only magical creatures exited in the south sea. There were many other mysterious creatures inhabiting the sea which humans believed to be pure mythical things at first. And one of such species was sirens which would be no other than aqua evil creatures.

Just like mermaids, many non-noble sirens had no supernatural powers either. But who would dare to touch them when they got such deadly physical features with which alone was enough to confront and kill hundreds of human warriors.

Humans targeted mermaids like some preys whereas they never dared to go touch the shadow of a single evil siren. The world was really unfair. All the time, merfolk had to stay alert to the danger of humans, who wouldn't hesitate to kill and use their beautiful body parts for their own good, or sirens who were always sneaking the chance to avenge themselves on merfolk kingdom for eliminating their evil ancestors in the past....
