22 Visit (5)

"Mother, I'm home!" Mia said as she opened the front door.

Happy was running towards her like a rocket.

"Did you miss me?" She said as she was scratching Happy's belly.

"How was your company outing?" Her mother asked while she was preparing their food in the kitchen.

"It was fine, although I did not get to enjoy the beach much, the view was fantastic," Mia said with a smile.

While she looked at her mother in the kitchen, Mia noticed the basket on top of the counter.

"We had a visitor?" Mia asked while grabbing a bar of chocolate.

Mia's mother paused for a little bit before answering," an old friend came to visit."

"Is that so..." said Mia.

She did not inquire any further about the so-called visitor instead she brought out all the souvenirs she bought during her trip.

She put everything on the coffee table beside the couch. While doing so, she saw the photo albums oiled on top.

'Was it a relative?' she thought to herself.

"Mom, I got you some souvenirs. I put them on the coffee table. I'm going to head to my room to rest for a bit." She went to her mother, kissed her cheek before walking away.

Looking at Mia's back her mother said, "I wonder if I did the right thing."

Mia went directly to her bed and dived right into her pillows. Lying on the bed for a couple of minutes, she grabbed her luggage near the bed and took out the bunny that she received as a gift from William.

While looking at it intently, she traced her fingers on the W embroidered on the chest of the bunny. She suddenly thought of her phone and checked her messages.

She looked at her phone, she saw that there weren't any new messages that she received. She let go of her phone and grabbed the bunny with both hands, each grabbing a paw while stretching it up high.

"So why haven't you messaged me?" She said at the bunny while staring at its beady eyes.

"A simple Hi or how are you would have been fine rather than ignoring me..." She again said to the bunny.

"William you idiot!" She said while tossing the bunny to the side.

She looked to her left, and then at her study table, on the center of the table, you can see a bunny wearing a pastel dress, with a bow on one ear and a doll shoes.

She carried the other bunny which she tossed aside and walked towards her desk. She then fixed the disheveled clothes of the bunny, with great care, she set the bunny beside the other one.

"You won't be lonely anymore..." She said while leaning on the desk and touching the nose of the girl bunny.

"You have him beside you now. " She then pointed at the bunny and smiled while saying so.

"He must have a good reason for not texting..." She mumbled to herself. Mia picked up her phone again and started playing with it while heading back to her bed.

A few minutes later, she could not resist and texted Stephanie.

The driver and the passenger finally arrived home, safely. One person was rushing while the other one was as if skipping with her happy pace.

She then said something to her brother, "Don't worry brother. I got it covered." With a beaming and beautiful smile.

William was creeping out with his sister's reaction and had a bad feeling about it.

"What did you do?" he asked cautiously.

"I gave Mia a reason why we returned earlier than them." She said while giggling.

"What exactly did you say? I want a word for word account of it." William said.

"I'll forward you the text that I sent her." As Stephanie said this, she left as soon as possible as if leaving a crime scene.

While reading the text her beloved sister sent, William was gnashing his teeth and a vein could be seen protruding from his head.

One can hear a voice from afar saying, "Good luck showing Mia your good side!"

Bell-like laughter can be heard echoing inside the house which added to William's annoyance.

William who was holding his phone could not think of the words to start a conversation. He would type then erase it. Repeating like a vicious cycle. He then decided to go with a simple text to start.

William: Hello Mia. This is William. I'm sorry if I was not able to text you earlier.

That was all William could think of, so he decided to go with it.

After waiting and waiting for Mia's reply and pacing like a madman while staring at his phone screen.

A notification popped up, and as fast as he could, like a man who saw an oasis in a desert, hurriedly opened the message.

Mia: It's fine. Stephanie told me the reason. It wasn't your fault that you got sick.

Once William read Mia's text, he instantly replied to Mia's text.

William: It's a total misunderstanding Mia.

William wanted to plead that it was a misunderstanding but he did not know how to convey his feeling over a simple text.

Mia: I understand William. Stephanie did say that you were too embarrassed to tell me. I mean, I probably would have been if it had happened to me. But it is still normal for people to experience severe diarrhea once in a while. Are you feeling better now?

William wanted to explain to Mia that it wasn't the case but he did not have another excuse to give.

William: No, I'm fine.

William replied with no other choice. He thought he just needed to hold on until he could explain everything to Mia. He would surely make sure that everything will be straightened out in the end.

Mia: That's good, you know you're not getting any younger so don't eat strange things that will upset your stomach.

They had texted a bit more, then said goodnight to each other.
