36 The Truth (1)

The return trip was eerily quiet.

No one wanted to break the silence.

It might have been the previous discussion or they have been thinking about their own actions.

The drive back felt longer as the two arrived in front of Mia's house.

William opened his door quickly and wanted to open Mia's door, but Mia was ahead of him. William just stared at Mia's face wanting to say something, Mia, on the other hand, was also staring at William but it seems like she was lost for words on what to say.

As William was about to say something, His phone rang. He took his phone out of his pocket to see who the caller was, then he ignored it.

"Mia… I." Before William could say what he wanted, his phone once again rang, this time William put his phone on vibrate mode.

Mia was looking at William this whole time, She could see William's face full of worry, he did not have his usual smile that was always plastered on his face, this made Mia feel like her decision was wrong.

Maybe she should have given William a chance to explain himself instead of preventing him from finishing his words by saying she wanted to resign. However, as she was thinking about it, it was not about their feelings, this was about work, and she felt that she was not qualified for the job. She gave a sigh.

"It's ok William. I already made up my mind and please just let someone send my things over. I only have my phone with me, I left my other stuff at the office." Mia gave a smile, she wanted to act strong in front of William as she felt it was the right thing to do.

While Mia was talking, William's phone kept on vibrating in his pocket. "You better answer your phone. It might be important. Goodbye." Mia head inside the house without looking back.

William just stood there looking at Mia's departing back. It might have been the wind because he felt cold. After standing there for a while, William went inside his car and went away.

Mia, who was standing on the other side of the door heard William's car leaving. She leaned on the door, losing her strength and slumped on the floor.

William who was in the car saw that his phone was still vibrating so he swiped on answer and use the speaker.

"Where are you?"

"I'm about to head home," William answered. "What's wrong?"

"Father is home and he wants to talk with you," Stephanie said with a bit of distress.

"What is it about?" William asked with his eyebrows in a frown.

"He heard what happened in the company. He wants to talk with you."

"Tsk. That's all he ever cares about. If it's not because of business, he wouldn't talk to me." William said with a self-mocking tone.

"William. It's not like that." Stephanie said with a caring voice.

"It's fine sister. I'm on my way home." William said turning off the phone. His day just started to get worse.

William drove his car thinking about what happened. He was aware that the lies could have an adverse effect on their relationship.

Once William arrived at their house, he went directly to the study room where his sister and father usually discuss.

He opened the door and saw his father sitting on his office chair while his sister was sitting on the other side while drinking tea.

His father looked into his eyes without talking. His expression was solemn. It was the same expression that William was used to. His father, who was unmoving, uncaring, and unapologetic.

His actions were selfish, as he dragged them along in his pursuit for riches. William was looking at his father with disdain, his eyes were filled with apathy as if he was facing a stranger.

Stephanie on the other hand, had a worried look on her face. These two men had always been at odds with each other, as they don't see eye to eye. However, she could not blame his brother, as they grew up together, she knew the misgivings that William was keeping deep inside his heart. She can only worry about the two people she cared about, these two people who were strong-willed.

"I heard what happened in the company William." Williams's father said. His emotionless voice sounded chilling and cold as it reverberated in the room.

William stared at his father with anger in his eyes without saying a word.

"It' bad for the company if you act like an immature child throwing a tantrum towards his employees."

His father continued. William was clenching his hands, the veins has started to appear from the pressure he as exerting.

Stephanie who was worried about his father went to his side to hold his shoulder gently.

William did not open his mouth when he felt his sister's hand.

"I also heard about Director Ford, You know that he is one of the major investors of our company. You best apologize to him right this instance." His father's calm, calculating and emotionless expression was the last straw as William could not contain his anger anymore.

He was outraged, he burst out all his emotions, he looked at his father's calm eyes and said in anger, "All you care about is money and the business. Do you even care about your own children? We have suffered since our childhood because of your selfishness. We moved from one country to another, and for what? It's all for money! You never really cared about my feelings or my sister's feelings."

"William, calm down." Her sister said at his side. But William continued his outburst.

"This is why Mom left you because you were never the kind of person who was capable of love."

William's face was now red from his fit of anger, veins could be seen on his forehead and neck, his posture was that of a lion ready to pounce on his prey anytime.

"William stop it!" Stephanie was not as calm as before. She was trembling now while she stood behind William.

"I'm glad mother left you. I hope she's happy with someone else aside from a bastard father like you."

As he finished this sentence, a resounding slap was heard in the room.
