8 Chapter 8 New Name, New Life

Ebony woke up the next morning to sunshine glimmering through the white curtains. She stretched before getting up and walking to the bathroom across the hall. She could faintly hear movement downstairs in the kitchen. She walked into the bathroom, shutting the door and looking in the mirror. It felt odd moving around in the doll's body but she'd get used to it. She looked closely at her new face. The fine cracks that the doll originally had along it's face were completely gone. She stared into her blue hazel eyes. They were beautiful and bright, still full with her life force. Color now appeared in her face, powdered red now settled in her cheeks, she looked more human now. She looked at her hands, the cracks there were mostly healed but the ones that remained weren't extremely noticeable unless you stared closely.

There was a small knock at the door. "Yes?" "Good morning Ebony." Silas called through the door. "I went out before you woke up and got you a change of clothes, I'm no fashion expert but I hope you like them and they fit well enough. I sat them on your bed for you. Breakfast is ready when you are." Ebony smiled to herself, she hadn't known Silas for long but he was very caring and kind. He was willing to help her from the very start. "Ok, thank you!" She called back to him before she heard his footsteps echo back down the hallway. She washed her face before she went into her room to change. The clothes Silas picked out were simple but cute, she could live with them. The jeans he got surprisingly fit her well but he brought a belt with it just in case. The top was white and frilly, it hung off her shoulders and had small flowers embroidered along the edges. It screamed summertime. She ran her fingers through her hair before going downstairs to meet Silas.

He sat at the kitchen table, eating scrambled eggs with a cup of coffee. He had a cell phone in one hand casually scrolling as he drank the coffee. "Good morning." Ebony greeted him with a smile. He smiled in return, pausing to take the sight of her in. "Eggs are still hot on the stove, help yourself. I made coffee also if you want some." The kitchen smelt rich with coffee, she couldn't deny the offer. "I definitely will have some!" Ebony walked to the counter where the coffee pot was along with an empty mug, sugar and creamer. She made her cup, took a savory sip and hummed happily. Silas chuckled. "I'm glad you're enjoying your new life so much." Ebony smiled as she sat her cup on the table and went to retrieve her plate of eggs. "You don't realize how good food and drinks are until you go days without them. I am very much enjoying this." She laughed as she sat down with her plate of eggs and began to eat.

Silas smiled at her. "So I was looking at names that you could go by, I got a few good ones here if you'd like to hear them. I haven't thought of a good story on why you're going to be staying with me though." Ebony looked up from her forkful of eggs, she completely forgot about that. She hadn't put any thought to it since Silas first brought it up the night before. "Alright, let's hear these names." Silas nodded before looking back at his phone. "Alright, we got Gretta, Johanna, Rene, Raven and Sally. Those are the ones I like anyway." Ebony tilted her head to the side, trying not to snigger. "No offense, but the first two sort of sound like old lady names." Silas snickered back before faking a hurt look. "Awe, I liked them. I thought they'd fit you." Ebony laughed as she reached over, smacking his arm."You jerk!" He laughed in return, rubbing his arm where she hit him. "Well, which one do you like then? Or do you have a name in mind?" Ebony took another bite of eggs, thinking. "Well, Sally is a nice name but I'm not sure…" She paused as she thought more, staring at her plate intently. "How about Sadie?" Silas put his fork down as he smiled, he had already finished his food. "It's your choice, it'll be your new name." Ebony had always liked the name Sadie, short and sweet. "Ok." Ebony grinned. "Sadie it is." Silas nodded in approval. "Alright, got a last name in mind? It should be something common, so we don't raise suspicion." "Something common huh?" Ebony shrugged, her original last name was common but that was too obvious a choice. First names were easy, it'd be almost like a nickname but last names were harder. "Alright," Silas said, leaning back in his chair as he examined the ceiling. "How about… Carter? I've heard of a few people who have that last name." Sadie Carter. It did rather have a ring to it. "Sounds like a detective name." A smile stretching across Ebony's face. "I like it." Silas beamed. "Let's work on your backstory then." His eyes now brimming with ideas.
