2 Just A Normal Day

School was just as boring as normal. I achieved my goals to get into ... Academy but making friends was difficult. And after a couple of failed relationships, I wasn't sure I wanted to date or open up again. Tammy was sitting at the table waiting, like every other day. I joined her and took out my sketchbooks and pencils. She always took my sketchbook so I wasn't surprised when it was in her hands. Derek joined us standing, and taking another one of my books. They're my only friends here at this entire school and I couldn't have asked for better friends.

As the teacher walked in from his office he welcomed everyone to another day. "Have out your books and pencils, be ready by 3 minutes" his stern voice echoed the room. When I was younger I always wondered how teachers did it. "Today, we will go over styles using shading. Turn to a blank page, and sketch anything of your choice. You have 10 minutes." I decided to sketch a panda, one of my favorite animals. I love the pattern of their fur and the environment in which they live. After just 6 minutes I had finished so I doodled a bit and continued to shade some of my other sketches and drawings.

My panda was blocky and chubby. I personally like chubby bears. Their chubby faces and bellies, it's adorable! I'll change how blocky it is later. This class doesn't usually grade how good it is, it's about having your own style and having fun when you make art. Like all the art classes whether that be drawing, sketching, painting, music, writing, or poetry. It's all about creativity and learning to improve, not to improve to be like other people, but improve your style and work.

After the 10 minutes were over he called everyone's attention to the board and began with the lesson. "Shading is just coloring with a darker shade of the color. Learning to shade probably won't be difficult for most of you as you all have amazing art skills, but we will spend 3 days on shading so if you get stuck on any part please let me know."

I like using different shading techniques when I sketch. If I'm sketching animals, like bears, I like to use the tick hatching technique. I think it adds texture to my sketches. Plus, it's an easy technique for me to use. I learned it about 3 years ago and I loved it at the time. I was always sketching or drawing animals. Though I've improved a lot, I personally think some of those were the greatest art pieces I've created so far.
