6 Kalby Jenkins

Christian felt oddly out of place when he walked into the Borough. Their was a massing of people, undulating about like a breathing ocean. Even though he was one of the Big Four, it was clear that he wish their was space to breath.

"Focus you idiot."

He muttered to himself. He couldn't keep sightseeing and try to avoid the mortals. If she would even catch a glimpse of this, she would probably use it to her advantage.

"Hey you, kid!"

Christian stopped, feeling a hand that would force him otherwise. He slowly looked back, locking eyes with a scruffy male that smelled nearly as bad as Famine. He grimaced but waited for a response.

"Whats a spiffy kid like you's doing in the slums?"

The male asked, chuckling as he shot some spit on the road. He seemed Irish, yet his voice was of a dialect he's never heard before.

"I'm looking for someone."

Christian merely stated, his voice oddly even. For a second, it even seemed to scare himself.

"Ah, aren't we all kid. Lady luck dropped you down a couple peg, didn't shay?"

The male said, extending his open hand to Christian.

"Name Kalby, Kalby Jenkins. What about you's?"

"Christian, Christian Marik.."

The embodiment of Death said, regrettably taking the hand and shaking it. He wasn't a real big fan, but even then; He needed contacts to at least be able to find her much easier.

"Now that we's aquainted, what a pretty mug like you doings in the slums?"

"Like I said before Kalby, I'm looking for a woman."

This seemed to make Kalby laugh harder than ever. However, Kalby's laughs turned into fits of cough shortly after.

"Well, if yous looking for a lass, try the speakeasys in the Bronx. Even a guy like me can find one."

Kalby said proudly, grinning like a loon. Christian saw the man's yellowed teeth, some even missing. This man was so much worse off, it actually made him sad.

"Thank you Kalby, here's a little reward for you."

Christian said as he brought out a couple coins, his energy flowing into it.

He would place them in his hands, in which Kalby seemed to breathe easier. His eyes were sharper, his teeth seeming to come back and turn oddly white. He however, didn't seem to notice it one bit.

"Thank yous ki- I mean Christian. This will buy me and the kids something to keep us warm."

"It isn't a problem, you keep an eye on the people here, and there is more where that came from."

Christian replied as he went off, heading for the Bronx. However, one question did ring clearly in his mind..

Why did he turn Kalby's Hourglass back?..
