1 Trailhead

"Dad! Don't leave," A small boy cried out as his hand reached out to his father walking down the path out of town. The boy's mother held him as she silently cried, the man disappearing into the horizon.

The woman holding the child had orange eyes and brown hair that went slightly past her shoulders. She had a white shirt on and black pants on. The child looked up at his mother, his brown hair swaying in the wind.

Suddenly a boy with brown hair jolted up from his bed. He quietly got out of bed and walked out into the living room. His mother, Nariko was sitting on a chair, her brown hair now having a grey streak in the front of it. She looked up at him and wearily smiled. "Koi dear, would you please give me some water."

The boy, Koi nodded and went outside to the well and raised the bucket. He briefly looked at his bright orange eyes in the reflection of the water before bringing the bucket in. He then got a wooden cup and poured some for his mother then handed it to her.

"Thank you," She said as she took a sip, her hand shaking a bit.

"You're welcome," He tried his hardest to fake a smile and then walk outside. Suddenly he hears the cup hit the ground and he runs back in. His mother laying on the chair breathing heavily. He put his hand up to her forehead and she had a very bad fever.

He quickly got a rag and soaked it in the bucket then ringing it out. Then he put the rag onto her forehead but it barely helped. As the minutes droned on, his mother finally passed away from sickness. Koi started sobbing and shaking his mother. "Mom! Mom!"

He made his way to the town and told them about what happened. After they got his mom's body he just sat in his room being quiet for weeks on end. Until one day some villagers came to check up on him and gave him food and water.

*A Couple Years Later*

Koi walked around the edge of the town looking for an entrance to the woods. At the same time a white haired boy was doing the same thing but the opposite direction. They didn't see each other and bumped into and knocked each other down.

"I'm sorry…" The white hair boy said.

"It's alright," Koi replied back.

They both stood up and looked at each other. "I've never seen you around town," The other boy asked, his yellow eyes gleaming in the sun.

"I'm usually up on that hill," He says as he points behind himself.

"Well I'm Akemi, nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too."

The months went by and eventually a whole year has passed as they become close friends. Everyday they would just wander the town and sometimes the woods. Koi learned more about Akemi like how he doesn't have parents as well.

"Hey look!" Akemi said to Koi as he made a couple icicles with his magic.

"That's so cool!"

"Not as cool as your lightning magic."

"No, your ice magic is cooler." They both started to laugh. Then they looked up at the sky and noticed the sun was setting. It was quite a pretty sight though with the leaves being their fall colors and the sky being orange as well. They started to head back home and everything was oddly quiet.

Then a suspicious looking man came up to them. "You two should be home at this time, come on I'll take you to your home."

"We don't have homes," Akemi said, backing away slowly.

"Well then I'll take you back to my place and give you some food," The man said while reaching his arm out.

"We're fine on our own," Koi said, preparing to run.

"Really? It'll be no trouble for me," The man said, getting kinda desperate.

"Yes I'm sure," Koi replied.

"Fine I guess we're going to do this the hard way, I really didn't want to do this but I guess there's no helping it." The man said then suddenly pulled out a knife and took a stab at Koi. His instincts kicked in and he tried to side step it but his arm still got cut.

Akemi quickly fired an icicle at the man's stomach. The man disappears into what seems like thin air. Akemi and Koi's eyes dart around the field then suddenly Koi gets kicked in the back and hits the ground.

Koi quickly gets up and charges his fist with lightning. "Voltage Strike!" As his fist plants itself in the man's gut lightning flies off and shocks the man. The man quickly backs up and holds his gut for a second then disappears again.

Akemi and Koi both turned around but he wasn't there. Sweat dripped down Akemi's face as a leaf fluttered past his face, suddenly the leaf disappeared and a knife took its place and flew towards his face. He fired an icicle upwards and hit the knife away, barely missing him.

Then the kidnapper appeared to the side of Akemi and kicked him in the gut. Akemi recoiled, then fired multiple icicles in retaliation, "Icicle Storm!" The man teleported away but one landed its mark stabbing into his right arm.

Koi then rushed to the man and gathered lightning into the shape of a ball between his hands. Then he clapped his hands making the ball explode out into a wave of lightning. "Shock Wave!" The man teleported and Koi appeared under the wave in his place. The attack hit Koi but it didn't hurt as much as it would a normal person.

"You two brats are good I'll admit that but I've trained for years to figure out how to make this useless magic good." The man said before teleporting again.

As he did that suddenly Akemi and Koi switched places and then the man appeared again. His fist planted itself into Akemi's stomach the man then twisted his body kicking him in the face with his heel. Koi then rushed in and hit him in the face with a Voltage Strike then kicked him in the side.

The man stumbled back a couple steps before throwing two knives at him. Koi got ready to dodge but the knives hit each other bouncing off of each other sending them to the sides. Koi lowered his guard and was about to make a remark before the knives switched places and hit him in the arms.

"I don't like damaging my products too much but you two are giving me some trouble." The man explained.

Akemi quietly fired an icicle at the man's back but the icicle simply teleported away. It hit a tree shattering, "Did you really think I couldn't teleport other objects by themselves and I had to switch them with another one?"

Akemi stayed silent and ran to the man but the man simply teleported away. When he teleported back he had a sword, the steel gleamed in the sunrise. He swung the sword at Akemi, slicing his chest open and knocking him back onto the ground.

Koi looked at the man in fear and anger then he charged the man. He simply sidestepped and cut Koi's cheek. Akemi watched as this happened, his vision getting blurred before he passed out. Koi put his hand to his cheek and then wiped off some of the blood.

As Koi stood there his soul developed two new spells. Koi sent lightning coursing through his body stimulating his muscles. "Lightning Enhance: Overdrive," he then charged the man again, this time getting there before the man could teleport away. Koi then sent a kick so swift into the man's jaw it split the air, "Thunder Clap." The air came back and hit the man again.

As he fell onto the ground Koi stood above him menacingly. The man teleported and then kicked Koi in the back. The man then disappeared and kicked him in the gut this time with what felt like twice the force. Koi stumbles back before rushing the man with a flurry of attacks.

He got hit by the first couple of attacks before teleporting and hitting Koi with the sword. Koi stumbled back, his muscles getting sore from his new ability, his body was not trained to handle this much stress. The man noticed the and sliced Koi a couple more times with his sword.

Koi passed out and his body hit the ground. The man fell down, "Kids these days are getting stronger, I need to be more careful." Suddenly an arrow cleaved through his head. Blood splattering all over the ground and a young adult with silver hair and a bow then walked out onto the field.

The girl looked at the two kids that laid on the ground riddled with injuries. She picked them up and took them back to town. She explained what happened to them and then left. No one even got to ask who she was or why she was there.
