16 Hunting My Coat

I cursed.

This situation right now is not optimal. I felt my emotions fluctuating.

The feeling was somewhat annoying.

I had sufficient food by now, right?

I should have killed him. Her too!

One simple request and she had messed up. Ah, I just wish... I had a gun, to riddle her with bullets.

Ffffs.

My heart rate picked up, I inhaled and exhaled.

<WARNING! WARNING! Host must remain calm. Forcefully reducing stimulation>

Isn't this normal?

How could I not become furious!

Still, without the feeling of being angry, I pondered on the positive side.

At least this was another herd of Xank, and it was four times larger, yes.

The downside I am here, presently running for my life. This ah… I had killed ten of them and the leader had spotted me.

Pumping my shamelessly short legs as hard as I could, even if I was moving at over one hundred and thirty km. I still had that strong need to run even faster, ah! Why did I have to be reborn as a shorty?

This had been going on for the past hour and I had to jump over a few onyx stones as well, ah it reminded me of school when we had interschool sports.

200m run, jump.. 200m run, jump.

I genuinely wanted to scream, but I just knew that predators were nearby.

Sliding to avoid being impaled by a horn, I crawled for a split second before standing and jumping up the towering tree.

Moving as high as I could leaving those two a little lower, I thought nastily I hope they fall to their death but suddenly I thought, "Not yet, Tyna, not yet."

With a sigh, I relaxed a bit to catch my breath.

I took a deep mouthful of the blood I had caught in a crocodile skin pouch to quench my thirst, marvelling at the slight heat in the blood and tangy-sweet taste.

<vitality recovered by 5%>

I wanted to gag at drinking blood like a vampire bat, but it held a lot of nutritional properties I needed right now. With the confirmation of the system, it encouraged me to take a sip more.

Crouching, I leapt from branch to branch looking down; I thought I saw a deer... Ah, what were these things called now?

Right: dykie. Creeping from branch to branch, I kept my vision on the dyke, spotting a white coat. Imagine how nice and soft "Bambi's" pelt will be.

I sighed in contentment, feeling extremely relaxed, I even swore stars were in my eyes.

Creeping to my precious future coat, when I saw a beast not too far eying my... my coat.

No damn way I would give up my prey for this beast!

Moving fast I jumped and slit the throat of the dyke tossing it quickly in my ring then leapt backwards, exhaling at my near-death experience.

Perhaps I can even get a pair of boots as well?

The dyke was around four meters in height, about half that in length and a snow-white coat void of any other colour... At least from what I had seen before.

The beast growled then roared from below as I ignored it, climbing to safety.

High up enough I then went to another tree and began draining the blood so I can skin it cleanly, storing the blood I focused on my work then tossed the clean dyke and the skin back in the ring.

I'd need to dry it, but not now.

For the next four days, I went to the clear lake and gathered some water while killing all the nearby crocodiles, which was a measly eight.

Well, at least they varied from nine to seven meters so it was fine, though not as big as the eleven meter one I caught not too long ago.

I started sewing the bags using the sticky spit of the germblem, which was a sort of lizard. Even though if it looked like a lizard it seemed more like a sort of mutation between a spider and said lizard, with so many eyes and the sticky saliva that is used to set traps for prey which acted as a web.

With the half meter in length lizard nearby, I smirked. Maybe I should keep it.

The spit is quite useful. I can use it to first piece the house I wanted to build together since I'd heard mother say that it can hold even during subzero temperature.

Following that, I'd just reinforce it with the crocodile bones so it can be sturdy.

Eying the lizard, I tossed it a piece of meat, thinking of how much more food I needed to add to feed it effectively.

If it was edible, this thing would be dead but sadly only the spit was useful. Well, thing, you are lucky I need you.

Ah, my meat... I whined in my mind.

"Hey, lay some traps so we can catch some more prey," I said to the boy, satisfied with my haul. While I walked around I came across some plants that resembled cotton. I thought about how the Europeans stuffed parts of their homes with it to keep out as much of the heat and cold as possible and I decided to gather them all.

Sigh … my ring probably looked a mess and is close to being full.

But I can stop when it absolutely is and substitute by using the school wristband, though it might be a headache. Mmm… on the other hand, those two meatshields can be used as well.

By the time I finished, outside was getting dark. I climbed the tree followed by the lizard and those two.

Laying comfortably, I closed my eyes and rested, these days I had been continuously moving without pause, resulting in my body now feeling it. The worst part is that my vitality is in a pitiful state, which made my endurance pathetic.

I'm sure as well that –

I woke to the tree falling. Fear gripped me as I jumped from branch to branch while running when I could.
