Inheritance

The year 2019, October 17th, is when the world began anew.

Nobody knew what happened.

After what seemed like a typical earthquake quickly transformed into a quake that seemed to shake the very fabric of reality and the world expanded. The world would never be the same from this day.

---------

As the darkness swallowed, Lucas and wind raced past him. his heart tightened in fear.

As the anxiety gripped his heart, Lucas threw his arms out but couldn't find anything. The darkness even prevented him from seeing his hand before him. As he flailed his arms about in hopes of catching something, it must have passed on a rock and a sharp pain shot through his left arm. Lucas instantly knew he broke his arm.

After what seemed like forever Lucas's feet met a smooth gentle slope resulting in a loss of momentum until he hit another rock and rolled the rest of the way before stopping on flat ground.

The last thing Lucas saw before losing consciousness was a vast blurry cavern filled with stars before the darkness took him.

----------

"Lucas, Wake up!... Wake up, Lucas!"

slowly opening his eyes, Lucas winced at the pain coming from his arm, then felt like he forgot something important. "Is anyone there?!"

his voice echoes several times before returning to only the sound of running water.

As Lucas carefully observed his surroundings. The ceiling of the cave was covered with glowing stones like the night sky. Glowing mushrooms as the vast majority and various fauna scattered the ground. A clear stream fell from a hole in the ceiling near one edge of the cavern and made a beautiful little stream that disappeared into another dark hole in the opposite side of the cavern.

Lucas took in a deep breath, Marveled by the beautiful, otherworldly scenery.

Lucas drew closer to the stream, Bent down with his head close to the water, and took a sniff. It seemed clear, with no odd smells. But who knows whether any of these plants are poisonous and may have contaminated the water.

Resisting his urge to take a drink, Lucas returns to observing his surroundings and was startled to find rocks sunk level into the ground, forming a path. Lucas immediately heightened his awareness. But other than his steps, only the sound of the stream could be heard.

Thinking of Ellie, She should be scared and worried. Lucas clenched his fists with determination.

Hopping over the little stream, Lucas cautiously followed along the stone path until he could make out the shape of a doorway carved into a wall of the cave. Upon coming closer, Lucas could make out some beautiful decorative motifs carved into the door.

Lucas reached out to touch the pictures. The stone was smooth to the touch, but not cold like you'd expect. Taking in their beauty, which depicted many beings, most of which didn't seem human at all, creatures with beastly features all rushing into what seemed like an earth-shaking battle. Lucas dragged his hand across the picture before yanking it back to find a small cut in the center of his palm.

Upon looking at the wall again, there was a small spot of blood covering the mouth of a character on the wall. A single fang protruded from the mouth of the figure, riding a majestic chariot pulled by giant reptiles leading in battle. The picture portrayed a majestic and imperious image.

Sucking on his finger a little. Lucas put these details behind him as he entered the doorway and followed the corridor down into further darkness.

If Lucas had returned, he would be astonished... and creeped out to find the little figure's smile spread almost from ear to ear with a grin as the blood absorbed into the stone.

--------

Tok Tok Tok, Lucas's footsteps echoed down the passage with cold sweat running down his spine. Gritting his teeth and treading on. The cold air brushes past Lucas's neck sending a chill down his spine.

Lucas turns his head back, Ensuring nothing is following. Unfortunately, he could only see about 10 feet. Walking twenty more steps, Lucas starts to hear tapping echos and a barely audible ghostly howl.

Lucas looks back once again. Nothing but darkness is visible. His anxiety rises with every step more. His brows in a deep frown. Walking another twenty steps, the howl once again screams louder in the distance.

Lucas looked back once again, instantly losing his footing, falling on his butt. Lucas could feel his heart up in his throat at what he was seeing — sitting on the edge of a vast precipice. The other end cannot be seen. The bottom cannot be seen, and neither can the top... Only vast darkness, even darker than before.

Quickly scrambling back to calm his breathing and settle the knot in his stomach. The howling was quickly revealing itself. Only to be the wind in the giant dark place, swirling in the air. The howling must have gotten louder when the currents got closer to the mouth of the cave in the wall, Lucas Surmised.

Going to each side of the corridor. Lucas peered into the darkness and around the corner to see if anything could be seen.

Bracing himself against the wall, Something cold, Slimy and smooth slipped through his fingers. Getting close enough, You could see it was some kind of vine.

Following the vine, It came from back the way he came. Only 3 meters or so, A small crack reveals itself. Lucas wasn't able to see it coming from the other direction, but from here, it was in plain view. Luckily enough, it was just barely enough for a skinny guy like him to squeeze through.

Pausing shock after passing through the crevice. Lucas finds himself in a nicely carved out square room. About five by 5 meters. Three perfectly sized walls along with a crack in the 4th from where he came. Sitting in the farther end of the room sat big stone coffin.

Lucas looks around for traps. Nothing dangerous to be seen. Smooth walls without any hole.

Making his way up to the coffin, A series of scribbles are etched across the lid.

Lucas focuses on them a bit before his head starts to get a painful headache and crouch on the ground. The Headache vanished just as quickly as it came. Almost making you question if it happened or not.

Just as Lucas was about to push the lid open, he was astonished to see the Letters changed to English.

Quickly reading the inscription to quell his curiosity. "My name is Zonux Shadowscale. A deep regret fills my heart. Through the 75,000 years of my life, I never made it to the end. The peak of my potential was cut short by that accursed Abyssal demon! I hope you; Young one can take up my can continue the path where I failed. As much as I'd like to give you a choice, I also have little option in the matter. I have never once had a disciple in my life, and who knows when the next one may come along as long as you can endure the pain until the end. Your future will be limitless! Good luck and I hope you fare better than I did."

As Lucas finished reading the odd text, a sense of anxiety builds up in him... and excitement.
