7 Revelations

"I have something to tell you."

Zanir was talking to his parents with a serious look on his face. Kevin and Sarah had noticed changes in their son's behavior recently. Kevin had also seen his son use some kind of strange abilities earlier and that increased his curiosity. They were both hoping he might explain what was going on.

Zanir had decided to start slowly, by telling them about his world power. He would hold back the fact that he had reincarnated, for now. He had conflicting feelings, about telling them that their son was dead, and a stranger from another dimension was now living in his body.

Technically, Zanir Coffey was still alive. His reincarnation had seen to that. Zanir was already going to rock the boat, metaphorically speaking, so he wanted to gauge his parent's reaction, before proceeding further.

Zanir didn't want to overload them with too much at once. He had benefited greatly from the experience of having lived a previous life. His mental maturity was beyond a normal eighteen-year-old.

He knew that they would be very excited since this was an opportunity for the entire family to gain strength. Zanir recalled, that his family had left the Coffey clan prefecture, and moved out to the mountains when he was just a small child. He had asked about it repeatedly growing up, but his parents refused to talk about it.

'We'll tell you when you're older' was what they told him.

He hated hearing that phrase growing up. He was eighteen now though and considered an adult. Eighteen was an important time for the people of Norantal due to the culture.

The initiation ceremony into adulthood meant that the children would often choose one of their parents to inherit the family legacy. Depending on their position in the family line, they would receive information, skills, techniques, and advice from the family. These would be exclusive to the family, but could not be discussed openly with outsiders. To actually share the skill, with someone outside the family, would be considered treason.

Usually, it was an easy choice for children to make, as they had a much greater degree of compatibility with one parent. People have different levels of aptitude for skills, techniques, and especially magic. There were varying degrees of natural magic power, sensitivity, and elemental compatibility.

One person might be naturally gifted and would excel, with little effort. Another would struggle, no matter how much effort they put in. The truly unlucky would hit a plateau for their growth at the first level, never being able to go beyond the peak. Not to mention, people also have their own likes and dislikes, for what equipment and items they use.

Zanir recalled the memory, that he had been tested, when he was younger, for his talent levels. He was disappointed, finding out that he had low talents across the board. It created a bitter memory for him. Zanir's parents tried to console him, the best they could. They said they could still teach him the knowledge and family skills. That the world was wide and full of fortunate opportunities.

Another memory flooded in. Zanir was still young. He had heard about legendary magic treasures, that could raise one's power level rapidly, or give you a powerful bloodline constitution. Those lucky few, who had found such an event, seemed to find fame and fortune overnight. Little Zanir had secretly sworn to himself on that day, that he too, would one day find something like that. He never noticed an inconspicuous shooting star that quietly fell through the sky at that time.

"Zanir, is everything alright?" his mother asked.

It broke him out of the memories and brought his focus back to reality. He had been staring off into space with a blank expression for a moment.

"Son if you're in some kind of trouble just tell us. There's no need to worry." his father consoled Zanir and wanted to reassure him.

He thought his son was having doubts about opening up. The last thing he wanted, was for his son to start keeping secrets from him. They had always had a close relationship, and he was coming of age now. Kevin secretly hoped his son would pick him, for the upcoming initiation.

Zanir started his explanation "It started with the recent fall I had back while I was climbing. You both know that I was unconscious for some time. Well, something happened during that time. I was visited by an old grandpa!"

Sarah and Kevin were both confused. They asked Zanir to clarify and provide more detail.

"What old grandpa?"

"Well... Uhhh you see it was the founder of the Coffey clan yeah I think that's what he said"

Kevin and Sarah were both taken aback. The founder of the clan! He had created the Coffey clan many generations ago. All of the descendants could trace their lineage back to him. The implications were huge. They needed to confirm how he knew it was really the founder of the clan.

"How did you know it was really the founder of the Coffey clan?" Kevin asked. He was skeptical.

"Simple! He looked just like you and grandpa but he had a really long white beard."

Kevin had to sit down. Sometimes this child was too much for him. Sarah was shocked since the description matched. The founder was indeed known as having a long beard. Zanir pulled that bit of information out of a fragmented memory. It was one of the earliest memories of the previous Zanir's life. He knew that he had to weave a strand of truth and authenticity into his story.

Zanir continued, "He basically told me that our exile from the Coffey clan was an injustice, and he'd come back to help out his filial descendants. He gave me a powerful and rare world ability. He said that it would ensure not only our return but the success and prosperity of the entire clan."

Zanir was not prepared for the reaction his parents had. His father and mother choked up. They were crying and holding each other. He didn't know why there were kicked out of the clan, but he figured they would tell him when they were ready.

After a few moments, both of his parents had calmed down.

"Can you show us the power you're talking about?" his mother Sarah asked. She was a third level water mage and was naturally curious.

"Well, it's not fully ready yet, but I guess I can show you." Zanir scratched his head as he replied nervously. He'd only activated a single subroutine and wasn't even sure where all the creatures were.

'What if they were strewn about the world?'

"Come on let's go."

Zanir decided he'd let his parents see the world space and that he would just deal with the mess. He grabbed his parents hands and clasped them together. He activated his world space and brought them both through with him.
