Digimon: Revelation

Nico Fortanelli sat in his office chair and stared at his computer screen. His eyes looked as if heat vision were about to come out of them, and burst the worthless piece of crap into Kingdom Come. He sighed knowing that his life was passing him by, as he continued to do file reports for people who were requesting access into the building he was providing security for. Nico did security for a federal building in downtown Oklahoma where he not only checked people's backgrounds, but he also viewed cameras and made sure noone was doing anything illegal or stupid on the premises. It was a good job, but at the end of the day, he was a glorified rent a cop. And with most security jobs, it was dead end unless you knew people. Which Nico did not. So he was stuck there, doing the same monotonous thing over and over again, almost as if he were a military cop again. 

"I guess this is as good as life is going to get." The 34 year old muttered to himself. "Still, it's better than being a server again."

He looked to his coworkers to see if they would provide any sort of entertainment for him. Nothing. His coworkers, as usual, ignored him. They were introverts just like him and tried to interact with people as little as possible. He wasn't mad though, he was the same way.

"Whatever." He said out loud before he looked at the camera screens that were on the wall opposite of his desk. There was nothing going on other than people doing their usual things, whether they were on their "15 minute" smoke break or they were scratching themselves in areas they shouldn't while eating their lunches.

"This blows... Welp. Time to pull it out." He said loudly.

"HA! That's what she said!" His coworker, Tom, yelled out before he went back to looking at his computer screen.

"Really? What are you, Michael Scott now?" Nico asked sarcastically.

"Says the guy who still plays Digimon like he's eight years old." Tom responded while not once looking up from his computer.

"Digidestined for life, bitch." Nico responded.

"Codeword for I can't get laid." Tom snapped back.

"Um, you have no room to talk shit, you Trekkie lovin' ho." Nico said.

"I still get girls." Tom responded.

"Dudes dressed as female Klingons don't count." Nico laughed.

"At least I won't die a virgin."

"Oh really? Tell me something Tom, can you teach me to say I'm gonna die a virgin in Klingon?" Nico asked. Tom not knowing he was being set up, started to recite the phrase before he stopped halfway when Nico and his other coworker, Toby started laughing.

"You actually know how to speak that bullshit?" Toby asked as he continued to laugh.

"I went through a phase!" Tom yelled out.

"Aah looks you're still in it, bud." Nico said.

"Screw you guys, I'm going back to work. In fact, I'm gonna text my girl and see what she's doing." Tom responded angrily.

"Tell Chuck we said hi." Toby said. Nico and Toby started laughing before they went back to doing what they were doing before. Nico pulled out his 1997 digivice v-pet that he bought online. It was a very rudimentary design, but it held special value to him because his parents bought it for him to stay busy, since he had no friends. Instead, he would talk to his "digimon" as if it were his best friend. He used his imagine his Tyrannomon, a giant red T-Rex, was next to him as they watched the anime on T.V. Nico smiled as he remember how ridiculous he was as a child as he fed his Tyrannomon in game. "Oh, did you just poop again?" He muttered. "Whatever, dude." He pressed the feature to clean the poop in the game. There was a part of him that wished it was all real. That he was part of something cool, like travelling to a different world where he would befriend talking monsters and battle evil ones so he could save the world. Or even just chill with them out near an ocean or forest. Anything was better than what he was doing now. As he sighed, he started noticing a weird phenomenon with all the screens on his office. They were all going in and out as if they were televisions from the antennae age.

"What the hell?" Tom asked loudly.

"Cheap ass government equipment!" Toby yelled out. Nico barely paid them any mind as he looked at the screens for the cameras and noticed that there were mysterious symbols on them. They were the same as his computer screen. He stood there confused as to what was going on. This equipment has gone out before, but not like this. This seemed deliberate. Tom immediately contacted his supervisor as soon as Toby stated that this could be a cyber attack. Nico immediately unplugged all the equipment just in case it was indeed a foreign country trying to gain access to knowledge vital to national security. But even as he unplugged all the equipment, the screens kept showing the same signal. Then suddenly, after what seemed like an eternity, all screens went black.... All except his personal computer. What Nico saw on his computer was something familiar, but something that seemed impossible. There appeared to be an egg in the middle of the screen, just sitting there. Nico was confused. He knew what this was, but he didn't dare say anything because he had to be dreaming.

"No effing way." Nico thought to himself. Then as if on cue, the egg hatched! And out of the egg appeared a small blob with eyes. It locked it's newborn eyes with Nico before his v-pet started vibrating violently. Nico looked down to see his device glowing. The initial shock caused him to drop the device into the floor which startled his coworkers.

"Hey man, you good?" Toby asked. Nico didn't hear him. He was too shocked at what had just transpired.

"Hey, retard! You good?!" Tom yelled out. This snapped Nico out of it, as he looked up to his coworkers and noticed their concern.

"Yea, I'm good. Did you guys just see that--" Nico stopped as he looked at his computer screen. It was normal again. In fact, all the monitors and screens were functioning normally again.

"That was weird. I'll go let Rick know what happened right quick." Toby stated before he booted out the door.

"Dude, what was that?" Tom asked.

"I don't know, man. I just know it was freaky."

"Yea, I hope this means we get overtime though!" Tom yelled out.

"Yea, I guess." Nico stated as he bent down and grabbed his v-pet. As he tried to inspect it, he noticed the screen was blank. The digimon that was in the game was mysteriously gone. He tried pressing the buttons and even, resetted the game but nothing worked. The game's features worked just fine. There was just no digimon to occupy the v-pet. "Dammit. I just got this thing fixed." Nico stated before he placed it back in his pocket.

The day came and went in a flash. His supervisor was notified of the incident, and all of his higher ups were looking to see if there was any sort of cyber attack going on nationwide. Nico, Tom and Toby were told they would be notified as soon as they were informed of the situation. Nico hardly cared because he knew what he saw on screen. It stayed in his mind all day. He wasn't an idiot, he's seen it many times before, but in cartoon format. What he saw on his screen, was in fact a digiegg. And what hatched out of it, was a digimon.
