Starfall stepped back into the streets of Canterlot with an amused smirk, barely stopping himself from bursting into laughter.

It wasn't often that he engaged with someone in a battle of manipulation of such a level, and he had to admit, it felt awesome to get one over the other party who until now considered herself a master.

Oh he just couldn't help himself but giggle at remembering her reaction. She was completely unprepared for such a situation. That somepony could actually make her cold heart flutter and make advances that the Changeling Queen was unable to bear. He was curious how far they could have gotten if she didn't snap out of her sudden daze. He couldn't wait for their next 'private' meeting...

Feeling quite satisfied with how everything went today, Starfall decided to leave the changeling Queen to her own devices for now.

It might or might not have been an unnecessary risk on his part, but... on the line was the well-being of an entire race, and as much as catching Chrysalis early would save them from a lot of unnecessary drama, he was unwilling to put the Changelings under the same torment that they went through in the comics, being thrown into prison to starve for months...

In the end, the best outcome would probably be for the same events as in the show to transpire, but with a slight twist from Starfall...

__________

It had been a few days since his first encounter with Chrysalis, and the preparations for the wedding were already on their way.

Not much happened during that time, and while he did meet with Cadence a few times, it didn't seem as if Chrysalis took her place as of yet, so he took advantage of those few times to spend some quality time with his favourite foalsitter.

His girls already called him and informed him that they would be arriving in a few days time, so Starfall knew, the big showdown was about to begin soon enough.

He was actually surprisingly bored during those few days of waiting...Other than making some tender love to his three overworked princesses, with Tia getting the most attention, as she also shouldered the most responsibilities, Starfall really didn't have much to do in the City, other than making regular patrols and making sure everything was in order.

He hadn't caught any more trail of Chrysalis, though he didn't really look that much, opting to let the events play out as they did in canon. It might have been a slightly dangerous way of thinking, because his presence could have just as easily derailed everything the moment he appeared, but he had confidence he could take on anything that happened no matter how his presence affected the future. After all, his training wasn't just for show. Right now his battle proves shouldn't fall short of an Alicorn. Even if his power wasn't yet at the same level, falling just a bit short of reaching that threshold, Starfall had the advantage of extensive training, creativity and versatility, his magic honed to such a level that his spells rised way above the level of what your regular magic user could ever dream of achieving.

So it was not surprising that when Starfall met with Cadence the following day, he instantly recognised her as a disguised Chrysalis.

It wasn't even his tracking spell that he put on the real Cadence which tipped him off.

It was the slight jolt of recognition on the face of the disguised Queen, and her confused mix of anger and shyness hidden behind a mask of Princess Mi Amore Cadenza...

It was going to be so much fun teasing her...

_________

Cadence laid inside her crystal prison, deep inside the catacombs of Canterlot.

The day started as any other. Waking up beside her amazing soon to be husband, doing some boring paperwork, and then going into the city to spread some love amongst the citizens, hoping to slightly raise the morale.

It all happened so suddenly.

A small filly came towards her and asked her for help, soon leading her into a dark corner, under the pretense of somepony being hurt and needing medical attention.

Oh irony...She thought when the same Filly knocked her out from behind and dragged her into this dark cave, where she revealed herself to be the Queen of Changelings.

Cadence wasn't ashamed to say that she wasn't nearly as strong as Celestia.

Even her dear little pupil Starfall probably already surpassed her in sheer power alone.

She wasn't much of a fighter either. A slightly reckless thrill seeker she might have been, before that accident made her an Alicorn, but she was not one to fight when a peaceful solution presented itself...

That however was not an option in this situation, and seeing as her body was already weakened, she could tell that she was not in any form to fight the other party, her only option being to despair as Chrysalis gloated over her plan going ...as planned...

soon enough, Cadence was left alone in the dark cave, despair slowly creeping up her spine as tears threatened to fall down her cheeks at the thought of loosing her beloved...

Suddenly, a scroll appeared beside the startled Princess through a familiar green flame.

Either Spike send it himself through his magical breath, or Starfall cast his own version that imitated the former process.

She quickly unfurled the letter and her heart soon felt at ease after reading the content.

Dear Cadence.

Please fret not, as I, Starfall, your favourite and most beloved pupil, (much better than Twilight obviously), have already noticed the impostor taking your place and locking you in the Catacombs. I have already took steps to unravel the situation, but because your impostors cast a fairly powerful charm on everypony around her, I decided to wait for the right moment to disprove of her identity. I shall be sending you some supplies so that you can rest, and a few days from now would be when we shall strike. I don't want to see neither you nor Shining Armour suffering for longer than necessary, but trust me on this when I say, letting things play out for a few days would be in our best interest for the future of Equestria.

I'm totally not doing it for my selfish reasons...

With love, your dearest pupil Starfall. <3

Cadence read through the letter and finally chuckled in mirth, speaking to herself.

"Oh you're so grounded 'my dear pupil' "She shook her head in amusement and slight annoyance. He could have at least taken her out of here... but Nooo... he'd leave her grounded in a cave with supplies while he does who knows what when a Celestia damned Changeling Queen impersonates her!

She didn't care that he was an adult now, she was going to give him some good ol' spanking for this little stunt of his when she gets her hoofs on him...

____________

Starfall smiled and hugged Chrysalis/Cadence, making the Changeling shudder at his sudden touch.

"Oh Cadence! I'm so glad you're here! I was just about to ask you about the decorations for the dining room. Please come right here." He pulled her into a room further inside the castle despite her silent protests. His charm aura already at full force, doing unspeakable things to the other party's already unstable psychic...

She was already regretting coming here in the first place. Why must have this pony been here!? She had completely forgotten about him also being a royalty when she thought of ways to get her hooves on that tasty Shining Armour.

And now she could do nothing but play to his whims or he might notice her acting unlike the original. Why oh why wasn't her charm affecting him like it did the others!?

And why did it feel so good when he touched her precious hooves...
