2 Fitting In (Prologue)

Michelle ate at the dining table uncomfortably, she felt like she was being glared at. She chugged a glass of water before raising her head up and looking at her little sister Victoria.

"What?"

Victoria pouted before looking away. Victoria was only 3 years younger but the she looked thesame age as Michelle, people softened mistook them for twins because of their uncanny resemblance.

"Are you angry because I didn't go to your friend's party?"

Victoria didn't look at her but nodded slightly "Vicky....I told I'm too old for all of that and besides, you know I'm studying for my GEC...."

"Oh come on!....you're 17! at least live life a little!"

"Vicky is right" John said joining in their conversation. Thomas got irritated hearing the children speak "Stop talking with food in your mouths"

He said leaving no room for any more discussions.

Michelle lowered her head and continues eating. It wasn't that she didn't want to go to the party. She was scared that she wouldn't fit in. At a young age her parents sent her to live with her grandmother because they felt she was too stubborn and could get easily spoilt staying in a place like Lagos.

She had spent so long in the village that once she was brought back, she couldn't seem to fit in. Her father became stricter because of how she had embarrassed in countless times in public. Which is why he hasn't allowed her to call him daddy like the rest of his children.

After doing the dishes, Michelle went straight to her brother's room to ask him about the American family. She was really excited, she felt like something good was going to happen.

She knocked on his door eagerly, she knew better than to just walked in as she had accidentally walked in on him doing his 'business' once.

It was a day she would never forget, she avoided John for a whole month.

John opened the door almost immediately before pulling her in. "Next week?"

John nodded "Thankfully there's only three and half of them, we only have two available guest rooms"

"And half?" Michelle raised her brows

"Ah....yes, his mother adopted a little boy a few months back" John said opening his laptop.

"How lovely!" Michelle said trying to copy a British accent which came out horrible.

John shook his head and laughed "You seem pretty excited, are you really that eager to see them"

Michelle nodded "We are going to have foreigners in our house! That us definitely something to be excited about" Michelle squealed making her brother roll his eyes. The girl was always excited for any little thing.

"By the way, When is mommy coming back?"

She had been back in this house for a year now but she had only seen her mother twice. The woman was a very famous director in Nigeria who made hit movies.

She had recently directing a movie which she said would be the movie of her whole career, which made seeing her really hard. But filming had ended now, Michelle still didn't know when she was coming.

John didn't seem to hear her question as his fingers were busy dancing on the laptop's keys.

Michelle turned to look at his serious expression and then his fingers that were moving really fast. No matter how many times she had seen him do this, she always fell into a daze just watching him. She had never seen anyone's fingers go this fast before.

John's fingers suddenly stopped, snapping her out of her daze.

"She'll be here in 2 minutes 54 seconds"

"Huh?" Michelle asked not understanding a word.

John turned of his laptop and sat comfortably on his bed "Mom is already home" He said again, Michelle's face lit up as she stared at her brother. She kissed him on his cheek and ran out leaving the dazed man behind.

John shakily reached for the cheek she had kissed and held it like it was a delicate treasure.

Sure enough his heart was beating really fast again, the same way he felt any time she was close to him willingly.

John sighed and shook those thoughts out of his head "It can never happen....." he whispered to himself before putting on his signature smile and walking out of his room as well.

Michelle stood in front of the door eagerly, waiting for her mother to just push it open.

Seeing a big luggage enter first, Michelle quickly grabbed it and pulled it in dragging her exhausted look mother along with it. Despite her current appearance right now, Silver was one of the most beautiful women Michelle had ever seen.

With her natural pink lips and her watery brown eyes, all of which Michelle and Vicky inherited.

"Mimi" Silver smiled hugging her daughter "How have you been"

"Never been better" Michelle answered happily. Silver nodded before signaling the girl to follow her with the luggage.

Standing in front of her parent's door, Michelle hesitated. Thomas never let her enter the room, saying she would break everything she touches.

"Lets go na" Silver said pulling her daughters wrist and bring her inside the room. Michelle looked around as if memorizing every single detail. This was after all, her second time in this room.

The room was covered in Grey and blue, both her parent's favorite couriers. The king sized bed made her feel sleepy in the spot.....but the man on it did not.

Thomas practically glared at her but once he saw his wife, his eyes softened and his lips curled up.

"Welcome back, honey" he put down the boring looking book in his hands and stood up to hug his wife. They had been married for almost 20 years and their relationship was still as strong as it was.

Silver smile and hugged him back "I missed you...., I missed all of you. Where are the rest?" She asked while Michelle nodded and went to call the rest of her siblings.

NEW YORK CITY, USA

Spring break had finally arrived and Roland was getting more and more irritated every minute.

"When are we going?"

"Where will we stay?"

"What will we eat?"

"Should I buy new clothes and under wear?"

Roland massaged his aching temples and that looked down at the excited 15 year old

"We can go right now if you want, we can sleep on the streets and eat dust and mud but don't worry, we can also go naked!" Roland said with a voice filled with sarcasm.

Their mother couldn't help but burst into laughter seeing her daughter's face

"Don't tease your sister Ron" Tatiana said before carrying little Leo who was on the floor into her arms.

Ronald shrugged and then sighed. "We'll going tomorrow, which you would know, if you ever listened" Roland said rather calmly.

His sister's smile grew brighter "Ok ok, Byeeeee! "

"Teenagers...." Tatiana show her head making Roland chuckle "I'm just had she's smiling like this again. I really thought after last year she would just be thesame...." Roland sighed and pinched the baby's cheek.

Tatiana saw the sad look on her son's face and sighed "I miss him too, we all do But I think he would want us to be happy even without him being here"

Roland nodded with a smile on his face "Thanks mom, I'm off" He said before waving and leaving the house.

Tatiana sighed to her self "If only you were here to see the kind of man he has become....."
