' Okay I got Karasuma to become part of my squad. I'll need to focus on the participates for the exam. Let's see the files. '

Elden then went through the files. None of the people caught his attention as he used his sense to look at the kids who were sleeping and their magic levels.

' Yes. I'm in time. I wasn't to late. '

Elden looked at the files for Mars, Fana and Ladros.

' Thank God. I was made a captain in time. Karasuma sensei says that this year will be brutal as it's basically last man standing wins.

Multiple groups are there. Shit I almost missed these three. Okay Mars has gone under extensive training considering he is a very capable and somewhat of a prodigy.

Fana is also somewhat of a prodigy. Her salamander spirit might be possible in the future. That and she has a healing fire spell.

Ladros has the absorption and release ability like in cannon. Apparently he took the experiment early this time before the exam.

These three are the ones I need to get from this batch. Mars and Fana are 12 while Ladros is 13. ' Elden thought as he then organised the papers.

' So far I chose the ones from the batch. I need to get more mages. The exam isn't for another 3 days.

I'll go to the army section and look for people to choose. For now though I'll head over to the grimmore tower.

I'll be able to get my grimmore now. '

Elden left for the tower and headed inside. Once their he saw many kids there who were waiting for a grimmore.

' This people will be part of the mage force army. The talented ones will go to the captains.

For now I'll just wait for my grimmore and leave. '

Soon the ceremony began as Grimmores went to different people. The grimmore they got had a diamond symbol on the front cover.

Elden waited before floated before him. He touched the book and looked at it. The book was different.

' The front cover has a 4 pointed star. Karasuma sensei told me when I first started training.

This grimmore is equal to the four leaf clover from the clover kingdom.

Well since I'm done here I'll go and train. '

Elden left the tower and went to a empty area where no one can disturb him.

' All right let's see what this grimmore does. '

Elden opened his grimmore and it flipped to a certain page for one his spells. Elden used the spell as his eyes widened at the difference before back go his normal indifferent expression.

' The amount of mana I used was less than what i normally use. The grimmore practically reduced the mount of mana I need for a spell.

The more mana I have the longer I can last in a battle. More mana is useful. That's why people with more magic are favoured.

With their large mana pools and a grimmore they could fight for hours on end. With enough training they would be monsters on the battlefield.

Well looks like I have to get used to the grimmore now. I had to train my magic control to use the right amount of mana.

With this the mana I would need will be even lower. Time to train. '

Elden trained with his grimmore and became familiar with it easily.

Elden spent time with the mage force army. He went looked at everyone and choose the best people for his squad.

He went asked them in private. Asking questions to them about their personal life and viewpoints before letting them in if he agrees.

Soon the exam was about to start so Elden went to the room where the king and other captain's could see.

" Oh Elden your on time. " Rose said.

" Yes. I wanted to be here early. Besides I have already chosen the kids I want. "

" True. But they will have to survive first. "

" Your right. But I believe they will do so. Are the other captains joining? "

" This year. Nope. They will go to the people who got a grimmore at 15 from the tower for their exam which is in a month. "

" I see. Well it's about to start. "

" True. " Said the king as he walked in. Elden and Rose bowed before sitting down.

" Well the exam will begin. You have givin in your entrees haven't you? "

" Yes. " They responded.

Elden looked at the screen of the children.

'This is different from what I had gone through. The captains hadn't chosen anyone. Now we are allowed to choose who we get to add to our squads.

They changed the rules after a while. Though it seems Mars and Fana are in the same group. I'll have to appeal to his majesty to let them be part of my group.

I'll think of a reason when the time comes. '

The exam started as well as the slaughter.
