14 Chapter 13 - Interrogation (Part 1)

Meng Yu gasped lightly as she was jolted awake.

She felt an intense burning sensation from all over her body. Her eyes flung open and roamed anxiously at her unknown surroundings. Her gaze fell upon an unfamiliar lady sitting next to her. A glimpse of surprise flashed in the other person's eyes, but she suppressed it well and stared warily at Meng Yu. Perhaps she did not expect Meng Yu's to regain her consciousness so suddenly.

Seeing the other person's hand holding a pair of scissors, Meng Yu's hand instinctively sprung forward and grabbed onto her wrist in a vice-like grip. The lady's brow immediately creased, revealing her annoyance.

"Who are you?" Meng Yu asked murderously. Her entire body emitted a strong killing intent that gave the other person goose bumps.

However, the lady was not someone ordinary, as she kept her cool. She narrowed her eyes in displeasure and replied in a firm voice, "Do not simply move. I have just finished bandaging your wounds."

Hearing her words, Meng Yu glanced at the gauze and medicines lying on the night table next to her bed before she relaxed her grip slightly. However, she was not entirely convinced of the other person's intention.

"Where am I?"

Seeing Meng Yu's look of misgiving, the lady pursed her lips, and did not even bother to hide her displeasure anymore before replying hostilely, "This is Lord Yin He's Manor. I am his personal maid, Bai Qin. Under his order, I am tending to your wounds. Now can you please let go of my hand?"

Meng Yu's brows raised as she withdrew her hand.

Yes, she remembered as the earlier strings of events flashed through her mind. She had suffered heavy injuries and must have lost consciousness when Yin He gave the order to his subordinates to bring her back.

Why did he save her? What is his intention?

"There is no need to be anxious. If we intended to harm you, then I would not waste my time to treat your injuries. It is best if you do not simply move and reopen your wounds again."

Bai Qin stood up as she picked up the tray of gauze and medicine in her hand and walked out of the room without a backward look.

Sitting in the pavilion was a lofty figure painting calligraphy in deep concentration. His posture was proud, and his movement was fluid like flowing water. A servant walked up and bowed respectfully.

"My lord, Lord Zheng has been waiting in the main hall for more than an hour."

Yin He barely spared a glance at that person before turning his attention back to his calligraphy. Knowing his lord's temperament, the servant did not speak further and retreated quietly.

From the other side, Bai Qin walked up to the pavilion.

"It seems that Lord Zheng is very persistent. He will not leave until you agree to meet him."

The corner of Yin He's lips raised as he replied nonchalantly, "Then I am curious as to how long he is willing to wait."

"The usually calm and composed Zheng Qing Yao is actually getting anxious."

Yin He chuckled upon hearing Bai Qin's word. Bai Qin had followed him for many years, thus naturally will know what he was thinking. Her words were merely saying out what he had in his mind.

"What do you think, Bai Qin?"

Bai Qin paused for a moment as she contemplated Yin He's question. She had also briefly witnessed the battle of Jin Di and Meng Yu back then, not to mention the sense of dread that Meng Yu gave her during their brief interaction just now. Her heart felt extremely unsettled. Her brows furrowed as she replied solemnly, "Until we figure out her real identity, with her unorthodox skills and mysterious origin, we must be cautious. I fear, she could be a threat to us in the future."

There was an unreadable smile on Yin He's face as his slender fingers finally placed down the brush in his hand.

"Threat or not, it is still too early to determine. I suppose the only way to know is to ask her personally."

Meng Yu sat up on her bed as she inspected her surrounding carefully. The interior of the room was decent like a proper guest room, but it was heavily guarded from the outside. Judging from her current situation, she knew that she cannot escape. Jin Di was determined to take her life back then, and if it was not for Yin He's interference, she would not be sitting here right now.

It seemed like even if she tried to lay low, people will still find fault with her. Continuing to stay with Zheng Qing Yao will only bring her more troubles. She would need to carefully plan out her next step.

What Jin Di did this time, she would definitely return it in two-fold to him. However, Yin He was also another problem. He was not a generous person, and she had provoked him previously, so there was no reason for him to help her. As for what Yin He was planning, she would know very soon.

Speaking of the devil, that arrogant male voice could be heard from outside of her room.

"Aiya, Bai Qin, I almost thought you are guarding a prisoner here. Why did you arrange so many guards?"

Yin He pushed the door open and saw Meng Yu sitting straight on the bed with her arms folded. Upon seeing him, she did not even bother to hide her grim expression. Yin He revealed a smirk on his handsome face.

"I see you are looking a lot better now."

He strode into the room and sat down by an exquisite round table right in the middle of the room.

"Many thanks to Lord Yin for your help."

Even though she thanked him, but her voice did not even contain any trace of gratitude at all. Seeing her not putting up any pretences like she did in their first encounter, Yin He shook his head and chuckled to himself.

"You do not even bother to act anymore, how boring."

"Where is the need for it? Let us get to the main point. What do you want?" Meng Yu asked.

Yin He let out a laugh as he replied, "What is with the impatience?"

"I did not know Lord Yin is so free, but I am not someone who likes to play meaningless game."

"Meaningless? I do not think of it that way. In fact, I find it remarkably interesting." Yin He replied tauntingly as a sly smile appeared on his face.

Meng Yu glowered at the person in front of her. Cunning like a fox! Since he kept playing word games, she did not want to entertain him any further. She just shut her eyes, turned her head away and refused to speak. The room immediately fell into a cold silence. Yin He was a little surprised by her response as he carefully observed the other person who stubbornly sit there like a statue.

After a long moment, Yin He finally could not hold back his laughter. Still with her eyes closed, Meng Yu frowned as the other person laughed out heartily.

How infuriating!

"Fine, fine. You can stop throwing tantrum."

Hearing the proud voice spewing out such sarcastic remarks, Meng Yu's anger flared up another notch. She opened her eyes and scowled at Yin He. Meeting his gaze, she caught a glint of amusement in his eyes, as if he were mocking her.

"You!"

Meng Yu swept her hand over the night table, and a teacup immediately flew at him. The other person raised his hand and effortlessly catch the cup with a graceful flowing action, as if he was merely stretching his arms.

Shaking his head in disapproval, he played with the cup in his hand and said, "Aiya, you have to be careful. This cup is part of my Peony collection set. Unbelievably valuable and it also happened to be one of my favourites."

Meng Yu slammed her hand on the night table indignantly, and the sturdy furniture shook vigorously, as if it was going to break apart anytime if she had exerted more force. However, the angrier she was, the more amused the other person was. He was obviously enjoying it and did not even bother to hide it.

"Tsk.. tsk… You should not overexert yourself. You have barely recovered from your old injuries, and yet…" Yin He put the cup down before he continued, "You just have to get yourself heavily wounded again. You really have to be careful with your own body."

Meng Yu heard the double meaning in his words and clenched her fist tightly under her long sleeve robe. Although he had found out about her previous fatal injuries, it would not expose her real identity. However, this would also make her background much more suspicious. Meng Yu maintained her expressionless facade as she knew the other person purposely said all these to provoke her. Every reaction from her would be carefully observed, therefore she kept her silence.

Unsatisfied by her lack of reaction, Yin He kept probing. "You are very skilful. Where did you learn your martial art?"

"Does it matter?"

Yin He shrugged his shoulder at her response.

"Well, you don't have to answer. In fact, I am more interested in your identity."

"What does Lord Yin mean? I do not understand."

"Don't pretend you don't understand. I will be very frank with you." Yin He leaned back on his chair and gave her a meaningful look. He drawled, "I have had my people investigate you."
