11 Promotion

As soon as Matthew jumped into the portal he landed in Madox city, a territory of Beljaris. The area near the portal had been cleared in case of a mishap. All of his team was already approached by medics, some were sitting on wheel chairs.

As soon as Matthew came out a batch of medics and the commanding officer Rave of the Madox city quickly approached him. He removed his hat which was part of the uniform and did a formal salute. So did every soldier standing on the base.

The medic on the other hand was already doing his job cleansing Matthew's wounds while Matthew had already handed Alex over to another Medic to bring him the medical ward. Rave was curious about the baby but didn't ask as according to the military rules one was not supposed to question one's superior so he waited for Matthew's command after exchanging greetings.

"Has President Silva been informed about my arrival." Matthew asked as he dismissed the medic

"yes sir, we have already collected the mission details from vice-commander Rocky and contacted the President about the success of the mission. He is on his way hear will be coming any second n.."

Before Rave could finish his sentence his watch displayed an alert and a hologram of a soldier answered. "Captain the president is here. He is coming directly in the encampment"

Matthew smiled it was out of protocol for the President to enter a red portal zone for his own safety but Alas who dared to say no to Silva Grey.

A white large hover jet with sleek design could be seen hovering in the sky as it slowly landed. Right after a tall man with a thin figure came out of the jet along with 8 black armored guards, 6 behind and 2 in front, surrounded him. He looked meek with a white beard and a monocle on his eye. He looked as if an owl had been incarnated into a human. His facial features were sharp maybe because he was malnourished or because of his body structure no one knew.

Everyone stood in respect and saluted to him, Matthew was no different. Afterall Silva was not just the president of Beljaris republic he was also one of the two strongest figures in the country. A Maverick but no one knew at what level he was currently at its better to say no one at their level knew about it.

Silva immediately offered Matthew a handshake and laughed heartily. Relax everyone I know you have had a long day. He then turned towards Matthew speaking again.

"I won't lie to you Matthew I was not sure if you could do it but well you proved me wrong Major General Matthew Lamarka"

Matthew's eyes squinted there was a trace of confusion on his face, Silva looked at it and he cracked a smile, "yes it's General, I am promoting you to a Major General"

Everyone looked at Matthew respectfully with admiring gazes afterall Matthew was already known as a great Colonel but now he was promoted to the position of General at the young age of 62. Yes young, afterall for warrior and mages who practiced magic their lifespan was great, For someone like Matthew being at level 80 his lifespan was already close to 500 years so 62 was not a big deal at all.

It took a second for Matthew to register what happened but as soon as he did he saluted to Silva saying aloud, "Yes Sir!"

Matthew and Silva then along with Rocky, Rave and other officials went in to the headquarters situated near the camp for the meeting where the report of Matthew's team would be discussed formally.

The meeting went for 3 hours, at the end Matthew told the same story he told to Rocky and the others. He was asked some questions about it but nothing that he couldn't answered, afterall it was difficult to explain if not this way then how could a baby be present inside a portal.

At the end the meeting was adjourned, it was decided to transfer the beast core into the defense labs for experimentation and research as for Alex, Silva informed the Home secretary to look for Alex's relatives with in a span of 10 days if not he was supposed to be given to military orphanage.

Matthew didn't say anything at that time as this matter was a little personal so he waited till the meeting ended and requested another audience with Silva grey in his office situated in the President's jet.

Matthew opened the door and entered inside he gave a formal salute before Silva told him to have a seat.

"So Matthew what is it you wanted to discuss"

Matthew then expressed his request for adoption of Alex and the fact that his wife couldn't give birth to a child.

Silva contemplated about it for a while and said at the end

"Alright you can adopt him but in 10 days if we do find his relatives you have to follow the procedure as we discussed earlier."

Matthew immediately became happy but his expression didn't change. He saluted Silva but before taking his leave Silva's voice came from behind stopping him.

"Matthew you can adopt any child from an adoption center why him? why go through the trouble?"

Matthew then lied through his teeth except for the last part of his sentence, "Sir, his family was killed right in front of me if only I acted early I could have saved them so I feel like it's my responsibility to take care of him also I feel a certain kind of connection with this child"

Silva looked at Matthew for a while before just sighing and shook his head, "Alright I understand, you can go"

Matthew then saluted Silva and left the office. He had now successfully adopted Alex, as for the 10 day period well he was sure nothing was going to happen as he knew for a fact that Alex didn't have any relatives.

Matthew then quickly dropped his military gear in the garrison and went to pick up Alex from the medical ward. It was time for him to return home and share the great news with his wife.
