2 Change, for better or worse

Prince Ivan searched far and wide for the owner of the glass slipper but she was nowhere to be found. He decided as a last resort to use the mirror.

"Mirror mirror on the wall who does this slipper belong to and where must I find the charming girl from the ball".

The mirror replied "Alice Maybell who lives deep within the forest, the one with Atlantic eyes and a heart that's purest".

The prince couldn't believe what he heard when he found out the girl he was desperately searching for was his step sister, the true heir to the throne. Ivan knew that Alice posed a threat so before the royal court found out about her existence, he left for the cottage.

The moment Ivan opened the door, a sword pierced his heart, "H-how" he groaned.

"You don't need to know since I'll be taking your head, your highness" Lyla smirked.

The thundering of hooves silenced the townsfolk as a young girl on her stallion galloped through the streets. She was carrying the prince's head in broad daylight, not an ounce of fear on her face. Screams could be heard wherever Lyla went but the head of their prince wasn't the only thing which frightened them. It was the sinister smile the young girl had while carrying it. Guards started to appear fighting off the intruder but all were killed in a single strike. Soon, the ground was covered in the rotten stench of corpses that filled the air. Through countless bloodshed, Lyla finally reached the chamber where the queen was.

"Now it's time for you to go" Lyla sneered.

The blood on the floor flowed around the corpse. It continued to flow, stark red in the daylight and the once scarlet blood that oozed down the sword's blade splattered everywhere. From the severed neck, blood around the corpse was soaked into the velvet carpet staining anything in its way.

On the podium, Lyla yelled with both the prince and queen's head in hands "I, Alice Maybell have returned to become king, and for those who dare oppose will be hanged on the castle gates!"

The day after the massacre, the box appeared once more along with a rabbit. It was small and covered from head to toe with white fur. In its paw, it held a pocket watch.

"Congratulations, It seems you've managed to survive and in only 5 days. You really out did yourself by beating a record."

"W-who are you?" Lyla questioned.

"It's too early for you to know but you'll find out eventually. Here, as a reward you can take this"

"A ring?" she mumbled.

Lyla's vision started to become blurry, her heart beating fast and a continuous buzzing in her ears. Everything was black. She found herself falling in the darkness and only the sound of a clock could be heard before she lost consciousness. Abruptly waking up, Lyla looked to her left hand and saw a ring clutched tight in her palms.

"So it wasn't a dream.." she muttered.
