Ch-7 Life is Unpredictable

As soon as they reached near their cars , James who was talking with someone on his phone  also came towards them and said," Sorry guys, I won't be able to join you now, I have to go somewhere for important work, I will directly reach the hospital in an hour,". 

After that he looked at Ethan and said," Ethan, I'm taking your car, I don't have time to go back and fetch my car,".

Ethan raised his left eyebrow and said," Then how will I go ? Don't think I'm going with Lana and Alice, you know how they drive,".

James chuckled and said," Hmm, you can join Dr. Wood in her car , and there is a lead about him,".

Ethan stared  at him when he heard him and said," Ok," after that he looked at Edith and said," Dr. Wood can I ?,".

Edith shrugged her shoulders and said," Sure,". After saying that she walked towards her car.

Lana and Alice also walked towards their car and  drove away towards Wood's hospital .

After they were gone Ethan looked at James and said," What is it ?,".

James looked at him and said," I don't know yet , I got a call from my man who I had given the work to, he said he got something but he didn't tell me what and wanted to meet,".

Ethan nodded and said," Ok, but It should be useful this time,".

James said," Hmm, then I'm leaving,". After that he took the keys from Ethan and walked towards his car and soon drove away.

Ethan walked towards Edith's car and opened the back door and was about to settle down when he saw her looking at him with raised eyebrows so he also raised his left eyebrow as if asking ' What ? '.

Edith looked at his action and said in a sarcastic tone," Mr. Smith , Am I your driver ?,".

Ethan looked at her with a confused expression and said," What ? No,".

Edith again replied in a sarcastic tone," Then why are you sitting at the back ? I do have a passenger seat in my car,".

Ethan was speechless at her sarcastic remark and he didn't have any words to say so he just nodded and sat on the passenger seat. 

Edith started her car and drove outside the Wood's Villa.

For the next 5 min their ride was silent and awkward as no one said a word. Both of them were feeling awkward because of the sudden silence. 

Edith cleared her throat and started a conversation to end the awkwardness between them. She said," Back at the dining table , I was not trying to interfere in your life Mr. Smith, ``It's just that I was curious about the kids when I heard that, I know how it feels to lose your mother at such a young age,". While saying that her voice got heavy. 

Ethan, who was looking outside to distract his mind, looked at her when he heard her words and saw her voice get heavy when she said the last line. He knew Edith was referring to her real mother when she said she knew how it feels to lose your mother at such a young age, Edith mother also died when she was just 3 yrs old , Ethan was in new york when he came to about her mother's death, he was shocked at that time and was also sad because Jane, Edith's mother was the closest person to his mother and she had cared and loved him.

Ethan said," No problem , I was not offended, And my kids are fine , It's just that they miss her, they miss their mother ,".

Edith said in a surprised tone," They remember her ?, I mean they were just two when she left, so do they remember how she looked ? Do they have memories with her ?,".

Ethan nodded and said," Not much but still they do remember her, they have a faint memory of her,".

Edith nodded and after a few seconds she said," Do you miss her ? don't take it on heart , but it's just that people don't ask how a man feels when his wife dies, especially when he has a kid, they just think about how the kid will feel,". 

Ethan stared at her face when heard her question and words , she was right everyone was just worried about his kids they literally forgot that he also lost his wife. 

He thought for a few seconds while staring at her and said," I do , I do miss her, Do you miss her ?,".

Edith looked at him in confusion and said," Huh ? Miss who ?,".

"Your mother, Aunt Jane, do you miss her ?," Ethan said.

Edith smiled but sadness was still visible in her eyes," Yeah a little,".

Ethan said with a confused tone," A little ?,".

Edith said," Yeah because just like your kids I was also just three when she died so that's why I also don't have much memories with her, but still I felt sad and miss her because I was not lucky enough to spend some good time with my mother , I used to miss her and cry for her until Mom( Suzie )came into my life, she had always loved me like her own child , for her I and Leo are same,".

Ethan nodded and was about to say something when Edith's phone rang and the caller's name displayed on her car's bluetooth screen. 

They both looked at the screen and saw a voice call coming from someone named ' Love ❤️'. 

Edith smiled when she saw this while Ethan was staring at the name without any expression and then he looked at Edith who was smiling brightly. He turned towards the window to look outside.

Edith answered the call and an excited voice of a small boy came from the other side," Mimi,".

Ethan turned around in shock when he heard a kid's voice and looked at Edith.

Edith smiled and replied," Mike, how are you?,".

The boy named Mike replied," Good Good, Mimi I miss you,".

Edith replied," I miss you too, Love, I will come soon to meet you and will stay for a few days,".

Mike replied," No need Mimi,".

Edith frowned when she heard this she said," Love, What happened ? Are you angry with me ?,".

Mike on the other side giggled and said," No Mimi, I wanted to tell you that no need to come here because we are coming there,".

Edith's eyes widened and she asked," What ?you are coming here, when ?Darling, where is dad ? , is he there ?".

Right then A heavy Male voice came from the other side," Edie, I'm here,". 

Edith replied in an angry tone," You , where were you? I tried to contact you but your phone was switched off ? Like seriously you forgot me in just a week ?,".

A husky laugh came from the other side and the guy from the other side said," Calm down Edie, I was busy and how can I forget my love ,".

Edith scoffed and said," Ohh please shut up, and tell me what Mike was talking about ?,".

The guy said," He was saying that we are coming to London, permanently , we were missing you so we all decided to come back and dad also wants his kids and grandchild back, so darling we are coming back to you, you know na I can't live without you,". 

Edith ignored his cheesy words and said," When ?,".

The guy replied," At Least talk to me sweetly Edie , by the way next month , We are coming next month ,".

Edith smiled and said," Great, then come fast babe,". 

Again a husky laugh came from the other side and the guy said," Ohh Edie, you sound stupid when you flirt with me, don't do that again I will get a heart attack , by the way arrange a school for Mike , he is old enough to join the school,".

Edith pouted and said," Ok, by the way you are stupid not me and now I'm hanging up , bye fuck off babeeee,". After saying that she hung up.

Ethan who heard everything stared at her face without any expression.

Edith looked at him and saw him staring at her so said in a confused tone," Mr. Smith ? You wanna say something ?Why are you staring at me ?". 

Ethan said while staring at her," You have a boyfriend and a kid ," that was not a question but a confirmed sentence.

*Screech*

With a loud screech the car stopped and Edith looked at him silently without any expression and said," What ?,".

Ethan looked at her expression which was neutral so he thought that what he guessed was right and she really does have a boyfriend and a kid. Ethan was so shocked that he couldn't think what to say.

He said with a shocked voice," Dr. Wood, I don't want to interfere in your personal life but still I want to advise you that don't hide this from your family and I know they will be very happy when they came to know that you have a kid, and I'm sure they will definitely accept your relationship with your boyfriend,".

Edith didn't say a word and just stared at his face, she was so speechless that she didn't know what to say and suddenly she burst into a fit of laughter…

' Hahahahahahahahaha' 

Ethan saw her laughing and said," Dr. Wood ? Did I crack a joke or what ?,".

Edith controlled her laughter and looked at him even though her eyes were all misty because of the laughter.

She said while looking at him," Yes you did Mr. Smith, Like seriously A kid ? A boyfriend ? Why do you think that Mike is my kid ?I don't even have a boyfriend Mr. Smith , I'm still single,".

Ethan scoffed and said," You wanted me to believe that?Hell no, It was pretty obvious with the way that kid and that guy was talking to you, that kid even called you Mimi and that guy and you were flirting with each other,".

Edith widened her eyes because of his words , and she thought to herself," Help me Jesus , I really want to smack this guy's head with my hockey stick,".

Edith took deep breath and said in calm tone," Look Mr. Smith , I'm saying this for the last time I'm still single and don't have any boyfriend and specially not a kid , and by the way the guy with whom I was talking to just now is Flex, Flex Davies , I think you know him and if not him, I'm sure you know his father Steve Davies, and he is my friend, my best friend and Mike is his and his wife Paris son , not mine and his , and for why Mike called me Mimi because I'm his godmother more like his mother, his mother and Flex wife Paris died while giving birth to him, that's why from his childhood he had lived with me , Flex , and his sister Cassie in States, and Flex is just like that he loves to irritate me with his stupid flirting skills , I , Flex, Paris , Cassie know each other from our school times, and these stupid flirting between him and me are from that time , even his wife was aware of this , he and I are just FRIENDS , you understand the meaning of Friends right ?," after saying that she took a deep breath to control her irritation. She had never explained herself like this to anybody but this man has not left any other choice for her.

Ethan again stared at her face , he was so embarrassed at this time that he wanted to jump out of this car, but it was not his fault he just misunderstood the situation, and even if there was someone else they would have also think like that because of the way Edith and Flex were talking.

But still he said," I'm sorry Dr. Wood , I just misunderstood the situation,". 

Edith again started her car and said while driving," It's fine Mr. Smith,".

After a few minutes of silence Ethan asked," How old is Mike,". He was curious because of the similar situation of his kids and Mike. 

Edith said," He turned 3 this year,".

Ethan nodded and said," He is still small, does he know about his mother ?,".

Edith nodded and said," Yeah, he does , we always tell him the stories of Paris and we have also shown him her photos,".

Ethan looked at her and asked," Is he naughty ? Does he miss his mother ?,".

Edith replied, " He is naughty but not too naughty but yeah he is , and no he does not miss Paris ,".

Ethan asked in a confused tone," Why ? Is it because of you ?,".

Edith shook her head and said," No it's not because of me , I have always told him that I'm not his mother but a godmother, I just never wanted for him to misunderstand my and Flex relationship , and for why he does not miss Paris , because Mr. Smith we miss people with whom we have spend time , with whom we have memories, and for Mike , Paris is just a non living thing, just a fairy mother who does not live in human world, he had never seen her in person , never talked to her, he doesn't have any memory with her so it's obvious that he will not miss her, I just don't understand why Jesus do this to these little kids, why does he stole parent from these little kids, it's unfair for kids who doesn't even know how this cruel world works,".

Ethan looked at her and said," Life is never fair to anyone Dr. Wood, not even with Kids, Life is just unpredictable,".

Edith laughed bitterly and said," That's true, life is unpredictable , who would have known that I will lose my mother when I was just 3 , who would have thought I will see my father getting depressed after my mother's death, who would have thought that my perfect family will broke into pieces, then who would have thought Mom will come into our life and will join every broken piece of our heart and will again create a new family, and then suddenly again I will lose my Grandma and then I will lose my best friends in just a span of 2 yrs, who would have thought I will lose my best friend Paris who was just like my sister with whom I had spend my entire childhood, who would have thought I will see my best friend Flex crying on the day of his son's birth, that friend whom I have never seen crying not even when his mother left him , Cassie and Uncle for another man, I still remember that day when I saw him getting shattered in my and Max arms and cry not stop for almost an hour , My friends were my second family and I have seen my family again getting broke into pieces and this time more harshly than before with no chance of  getting fixed, who would have thought I will lose Max, the person I lo..," but before she could complete her sentence she stopped and looked at Ethan who was staring at her.

Edith was shocked when she came back to her senses and realised that she had just said all these things in front of  Ethan and thanked god for stopping her mouth at the right time, Edith had never shared these feelings to anyone , she was always cheerful and happy but today she lost control of her emotions.

She looked at Ethan and said," I'm sorry Mr. Smith, I just lost control of my emotion,". 

Ethan turned his face towards the window and said," I understand Dr. Wood,".

After that they both didn't talk for the ride and just kept silent.

Ethan was surprised when he heard those word from Edith, he had never thought that the person like Edith would be hiding so much inside her, he can see that lost and painful expression in her eyes when she was talking about the people she lost in her life, he was also confused about why she suddenly stopped in the end why she didn't complete her words , and who was Max she was talking about, he saw that pain when she took that name, his mind was filled with lot of questions like who was he ? Was he her friend? Is he still alive ?He was also shocked because Edith was just 25 and was suffering in this young age, he never thought that someone is also suffering like him or more than him, he just lost his wife and that pain was enough for him to break down , but this girl in front of him is still holding herself up. 

After 30 min of emotional ride they both reached the Wood's hospital.
