1 Radha

Beep.... Beep.... Beep...

She could see the last granules of sand slipping from the hourglass.... The Prince was stretching his hand and she was trying to hold him....

Beep..... Beep..... Beep....

She felt her grip loosening as she began the descent.

He was fading....

But she could still see the hand....

Those fingers.....

The artistic long fingers.... And a dazzling solitaire on the index....

Beep.... Beep.... Beep....

She took her last attempt to grab something....

Who are you.... Who are you....

And she fall.

Thump.

Radha landed on her back.

Slowly she opened her eyes.

The alarm was beeping.....

Beep... Beep..... Beep.

Reality sucks.

Monday morning.

Radha groaned.

************************************

Radha was just an ordinary person.

Very ordinary.

Brought up in a small town, the only extraordinary thing she ever did was to move to the Metro and bag a job.

She kept the bare minimum for herself and send the rest home for taking care of her family.

She was single.

Hard working and a loner.

Every morning, she wanted to remind herself that she was a hero, a fighter.

It was only because of her the family of five was surviving back home. But every night she would break down in her one room attic apartment, frustrated and tired.

Holidays were worse.

She would do chores, watch TV and grumble.

Bitterness was all she had.

Bitterness was all she felt.

No friends. No family. No purpose.

All she had was a cheque to live for.

All she had was a life to regret.

At 23 she felt so old, so insignificant, so worked up.

But life isn't really fair.

Or is it?

This is how she had been living for the past five years and this is all she could see for herself in future.

************************************

For Radha, that Monday started like every other week, gloomy and dark.

She hastily got ready and ate her breakfast.

She was the one in charge of the cafe.

Clock was ticking.

It read 7:55.

She flew past the door and was about to close it when her eyes rested on the  deity that came free with the apartment.

He was her only friend.

A life size deity of Lord Krsna.

She was really fond of him. He came free with the cheap rental attic, which was previously the storeroom of the Multistoried.

She flew back to the deity and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.

Tataz....

She smiled at him and rushed back.

Apples on the table and milk in the fridge.

And don't you dare eat my chocolates, she cried back and closed the door.

The clock beeped eight.

Thirty minutes, she huffed and rushed....

Another week...

This story is very close to my heart and I really had doubts about making it public.

This story is more of my ANUBHAB, ie, feelings.

I don't know if anyone will read it or not.

But somewhere I felt it's about time I publish it.

So here it is.....

Sohini.
