1 Vengeful Ghost of The Past

Everywhere i saw, blood was being spilled. The metallic smell polluted the air and made you sick. It was a firework of horror, a real massacre. Humans against half-humans, a war that was actually already over a hundred years ago. As expected, the human soldiers dominated the battlefield. Convinced and almost hypnotized, they clung to their belief that a hierarchy is the only solution. In this battle the half-humans consist mainly of fox- and wolfhumans, which were slaughtered one after the other. If they did not die by the foot soldiers, it was the magicians behind the first front who either burned them alive with their fire or beheaded them with wind magic. On the other hand, there were hardly any strong demihuman magicians, if there were, they were immediately executed by the "awakened ones". This strongest elite troop of humans had hardly any worthy opponents. In a moment it would be over, the last row of half-humans would fall and once again mankind would have taken a step towards absolute dominance. Among the demihuman fighters were women and even children who resisted and tried to defend themselves with all their strength. But it was hopeless, the awakened ones started the final blow with a calmness that almost signalized a little bit of madness. A huge fire tornado was rushing towards them when suddenly a black rift opened in the air.

Suddenly the tornado was split and the flames were extinguished. A creature stepped out of the rift, a former human, who now did everything to stop them. He wore pitch-black armor and held a blood-red blade with rune inscriptions on it in his hand. The inscriptions began to glow when he raised his sword. He cut into the air, a huge wall of blood was formed, cutting everything in its path in half. It went as far as the front-line fighters of the humans. Splitted bodies fell to the ground and frightened faces could be seen all over the battlefield. The awakened ones could only watch as he alone destroyed half the army with his attacks. When the two generals took a closer look, they could not believe their eyes. It was a young man, barely 17 years old, who destroyed their plan. It was their former friend who they thought was dead for good. The boy also sensed the presence of the two and walked towards them.

"I should have guessed that, of all people, you two became the top generals. It must be fate, don't you think?"

He walked around them, the two still couldn't believe that it was really their friend who was so powerless and clowny before. How could he be alive and how had he gained such power?

"If you could see your faces, consumed and shocked with fear and disbelief. Just two months ago I had this expressions: helplessness, lifelessness, hopelessness. Now it's the other way around. Your ignorance will cost you this fight, you know that, right? You two should've killed me personally maybe then I woud rest in peace now. I hate to break it to you but that wouldn't have changed a damn thing. You forced me and other races to accept this crappy destiny and reality and now you or should I say humanity will pay for that.

"What the king says is law, we are never wrong, everything we do, we do for justice. Ha ha, you don't realize how ironic this all sounds. What crime have I committed or what sin do I carry?" I have asked you this question before and nobody wanted to answer me. It's been almost 14 years since we first met, and yet I didn't know you at all. This time you have failed, spread the word of the undead's resurrection or the cripple's return. If we should meet again, do not expect mercy from us."

At that moment thousands of shadows streamed out of the rift towards the humans and killed one by one. It looked as if their souls were being devoured. After a few minutes 90 percent of the troops were wiped out. The shadows faded and left behind were beings very similar to a human. They gathered behind the boy and disappeared back into the rift. The boy looked into the eyes of the generals one last time with a lust for murder before he too entered the rift. The half-humans had won without really noticing or acknowledging it, their losses were just too high.

The two generals also left the battlefield with the remaining survivors and made their way back to the kingdom. It would be the first time that these two elite magicians lose. And this even against a creature that was once their friend and was branded as the most useless cripple on earth. Neither of them was interested in the lost fight at first, they only had one thought:

"What has become of you. . . Kuro?"
