2 Becoming Demon

A great shout out to citizen soldier for letting me use the lyrics of his song I'm not okay.

How to pronounce names

Hewa: He-wa

Shi: She

Kaji: kaji (pronunciation; kag (name of the letter g) i)

As we sit here on the park bench waiting for the moon to rise.  I began thinking back to when his spirit first came to me.  His long black hair came to the middle of his back and his green eyes glittered with mischief. He said that he could get me friends and that he would be my friend.  With all my friends ditching me I had no one, but accepting that offer was a mistake.

"Hewa, are you ever going to tell me why people are so afraid of you?" I ask

"No." Hewa says.

"Will you tell me on the full moon since you seem so excited about that?"

"How many times do I have to tell you I'm not saying anything!"

I sigh in frustration as the sun goes down.

"You should start heading over there." Hewa says.

I get up and walk through the park to where he said to go.

"Now what?" I ask once I get there.

"We wait, it won't be long." He replies.

About ten minutes later I see the moon slowly coming up from behind the mountains.  Shortly after I feel a bolt of pain shoot through my head, I yelp and stumble forward.  Pain shoots down my back causing me to fall to my knees then fully collapse.

"What's happening to me?"  As my stomach begins to cramp,

"you know kid you're pretty stupid to not have figured it out.  Your first mistake was accepting my friendship, the word Hewa means evil in Demonic.  I am Hewa the demon king that is why everyone freaks out when they hear my name."

" You deceived me" I moan, trying to get up.

"It's your own fault kid." Hewa laughs, as another bolt of pain shoots down my back.  I let out a whimper as darkness covers my vision.  When I wake I am on my side with my hands tied behind my back and my feet tied out in front of me.  I let out a moan and try to sit up, when I feel the cool tip of a blade touch the side of my neck.

"Don't try anything." I hear.

I look up and see a silver haired kid with icy blue eyes, his skin is a dark tan. He glares at me, as he holds the sword to my neck.

" You just about killed my friend." He growled,  nodding over at another kid with pale blue hair, deep blue eyes, and several cuts and bruises.

" I did?" Trying to remember when I did that.

"Is this some kind of a joke?"  He  asks,

"No." I say, shaking my head.  "I really don't remember doing that."

"Well of course you don't remember it!"  Hewa snaps, his voice echoing through my head. Since you so willingly accepted my so-called friendship on the full moon I can take over and do what I like."

"That doesn't make any sense, and where are you?" I tell Hewa

"It makes perfect sense! Since you accepted my friendship I can now talk to you telepathically."

I sigh and look up to see the kid looking at me like I'm insane.

"Were you just talking to yourself?"

"No." then I immediately feel stupid for saying that.

"Who were you talking to then?"

" I made the mistake of accepting friendship from Hewa.'' The kid looked at me for a long moment, as if trying to decide if I'm lying.

" How did that work out for you? I'm guessing he took over last night then." The kid said.

"I don't know, that's what he said he did.  All I wanted was to fit in and have friends and look at where it has gotten me." I growl bitterly. " I made the mistake of accepting his friendship and not even realizing who it was!  I am stupid." I growled.

Feeling like a fool for not realizing who Hewa was.  I suddenly felt  the ropes around my wrists being undone.  "It's okay, everyone makes mistakes."  The kid says,

"I feel as though he took a part of me into himself.  He almost made me kill your friend." I say, tears stinging my eyes.

"It's okay, I'm going to help you figure out a way to get him out." The kid says as he unties the ropes around my feet.

"Well getting Hewa's soul out is easy." We  hear from behind us. I look up and see two demons standing there. One had long red hair and pale purple eyes.  Next to him stood a bright blue haired demon with neon yellow eyes, short horns just above his ears, his skin is pure white and he is holding a black scythe.

"Who are you? And where did you come from?" I ask

"I am Ash" replies the red haired Demon, then gesturing to his right "this is Shi and we came to help get Hewa's soul out"

"Well there you go, problem solved." The  kid said looking at me,

"I don't know. I'm not sure if I trust them."

"It's your choice." He says, "but I think it's going to be your best chance."

After a moment, I look back at the two demons and nod.  The blue haired demon points the scythe at me, I very quickly feel Hewa's soul leave.  The scythe began to glow a soft blue as he spun the scythe a few times.

After he does, this, a demon with long black hair and glittering green eyes appears.  "You know kid, you have helped me a lot, I am grateful for this." And like a light switch it clicked I finally realize who this black haired demon is.  I glance at the kid and he is looking back at me with terror filled eyes.

"I think I'll take you with me." Hewa says,

I get to my feet and say, "I'll pass."

"That wasn't a question." Hewa said, taking a step forward, I shake my head and slowly back up.  I look over at the kid and see him looking at me as if not sure what to do.  I look back at Hewa getting ready to run if needed.  Hewa suddenly appears in front of me, and I yelp in surprise. I  try to run, but Hewa grabs my wrist before I can.

"I'm not going with you." I snap, trying to pull away.  Out of the corner of my eye I see the kid take a step towards us, but Hewa and the other two teleport to the entrance of a cave, taking me with them.

"What are you going to do to me?" I ask.

"You'll see." Hewa says before dragging me down the cave tunnel. He takes me into a large room. In  the middle of the room was a table hooked up to a large machine.  Hewa strapped me onto the table and walked off. I hear a loud humming noise, followed by an excruciating pain throughout my body.  I let out a scream, my head very quickly began to throb. Soon my head felt like it was going to be torn open.  The pain quickly intensified, and I let out another scream, darkness washed over me as I faint.

I woke  to the noise of a cell door opening. I let out a moan. "Interesting," I heard Hewa say, "I didn't think it would work."I let out another moan and start to sit up. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." Hewa said.

I ignore the comment and continue to sit up.  I don't get much further before a bolt of pain shoots down my back making me collapse, I let out another moan and open my eyes.  The first thing I notice is my skin is paler than usual.  "What did you do to me?" I ask looking up at Hewa.

Instead of answering, Hewa says, "Ash, go get me the mirror." The red haired demon nods and walks off.  A few moments later he comes back and hands Hewa a large mirror.  Hewa then sets the mirror up beside him.

I look in the mirror and see a blond haired lighting demon looking back at me.  "Is it permanent?" I asked him, Hewa nodded.  "Why did you do it?"

" It's my way of saying I want you to be one of my followers."

"I Don't want to be one of your followers." I snap, suddenly feeling very angry. Taking The pillow off the bed, I threw it at him.  Hewa used the mirror to block the pillow. I didn't think I had thrown it that hard, but when the pillow hit the mirror, it shattered.  Hewa sighs,"Ash, will you take the mirror frame." Ash nodded and took the frame. " Shi, come clean this mess up."  Hewa ordered before walking up to me.  The blue haired demon then began to clean up the glass."Is that anyway to treat your master?"  Hewa asks.

"I bow to no master," I snap, "especially not you!"

"We'll see about that." Hewa growls before walking out of the cell with the blue haired demon close behind him.  I wait until Hewa has locked the cell door and has walked off.  Once I know they won't be coming back for a while, I slide off the bed and examine the lock. I find that I can easily pick it.  I quickly get the lock off, then head for the main entrance.

I don't get far when I'm suddenly at the entrance. "Whoa." I mutter before taking off.  I start to head back to the park where it all went down. As I am walking around, something hits the back of my head. I yelp and fall to my hands and knees.  Before I can get up I hear a familiar voice say, "What Are you doing sneaking around demon?"  I look up and see the kid who had offered to help get Hewa's spirit out of me.

Instead of answering the kid I say "I'm not a demon. Don't You remember me?."

He looks at me for a moment before saying "no, I don't know you."

"But you were the one who was going to help me get Hewa's soul out of me."

"You can't be him, he was Human."

"What do you mean? I am Human."

  "Mm-hmm sure you are"

"Seriously I am, why don't you believe me."

"I don't know maybe the horns on your head" he replies sarcastically

I reach up to my head and feel these rough and bumpy horns.

"What did he do to me?"

The kid looks at me and says, "You really are him aren't you?  You know I don't think I got your name."

"Zack," I say, still rubbing the horns on my head, "what's yours?"

"My name is Hawk and that's Drey," he says, nodding to the other kid.  At the mention of his name he moans and tries to sit up, but gets part way before collapsing.

"Is he okay?" I ask.

"He's sick, but I can't figure out what he is ill with."

"Is it okay if I see if I can?"

"Yeah sure, go ahead. He Has a fever and a weird rash on the back of his arm."  I get to my feet and walk over to him, I feel his forehead and can tell that he does have a fever.  I look on his right arm when I don't see a rash. I check his other arm, and find a rash that is silver.

"The only thing I can think of that it might be is Phantom blisters."

"Can you cure it?"  Hawk asks desperately.

"Yeah I think so anyway." I respond.  "If you have a book on diseases I should be able to find out if the cure is in there or if there even is a cure."

"Oh my gosh, I'm so stupid. I have one and I didn't even think about looking in it." Hawk says before pulling out the book from his traveling bag.  "It was a gift from my father"  I flip through the pages when I find the page I'm looking for. I quickly found I have most of the ingredients for the cure because my dad was a cleric and was constantly telling me to have a good stock of these things.  But that was before he died.

"Can you cure it?"  Hawk asks.

"Yes I have most of what is needed, I'm just short on a few things."

"What are those things? I might have some of them?"

"All I'm short on is four huckleberries."

"Oh I have plenty.  Hawk says, digging through his bag, while he searched, I found the other things that I have.  Once I have them I pull out a jar from my bag. Again thinking back to how father told me it was wise to have these things especially for curing the sick.    "Here are the huckleberries." Hawk says handing them to me.

"Thank you," I say, taking them.  Once I have the cure made, I have Hawk gently sit Drey up and give Drey the potion.

"How long does it take to kick in?" Hawk asks.

" It kicks in immediately, but it will be awhile before he's back to full strength." out of nowhere Hewa appears with Ash, and a tall white haired ice demon.  I sigh and grumble, "Now what?

"I wondered if you had come back here." Hewa muttered.

" Just leave me alone!"

"I can't, you are one of my followers."

"No, I'm not, I never agreed to that!  Just leave me alone!"

Hewa shook his head, "I think it's time I taught you a lesson."  Hewa held out his hand as soon as he did a longsword appeared in his hand.

Hewa then appeared in front of Drey and slit his throat.  Before either one of us could do anything, the three of them disappeared.  For a moment all Hawk did was stare at his dead friend.  He then turned to me. "This is your fault, if you hadn't come back Hewa wouldn't have killed him!" Hawk snapped.

"I'm sorry," I mutter, "I didn't know."  Hawk stalks towards me drawing his sword.  Without warning he lunged at me. I let out a yelp and stumbled  backwards. This wasn't rare for people to be armed after all most people were adventurers and needed to protect themselves.   He swings his sword towards me, I throw my arms over my face and squeeze my eyes shut.  I feel his blade cut through my arm.  I let out a scream of pain, tears sting my eyes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know." I yell, stumbling back before sitting down heavily.  After several moments I hear his sword drop to the ground.  I open my eyes and see Hawk standing there. He was breathing heavily.  The anger in his eyes was still there, but I could tell that it was no longer directed at me. There was also shame in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he muttered, before running to his bag and getting things to clean the wound.  "Please forgive me, I wasn't thinking clearly." He apologized before cleaning my wound.

"It's okay, I understand, everyone makes mistakes. You taught me that."

"Thanks." he muttered.  After he finished cleaning my wound and bandaged it, he offered me a hand to help me to my feet, but before he could, Hewa appeared behind him. Before I could warn Hawk, Hewa drove his sword into his back.

Hawk let out a gasp of pain and dropped to his knees.  I could only stare in horror. Hewa pulled out his sword when he does Hawk collapsed.  After a moment Hawk managed to get to his hands and knees and crawled over to me before collapsing again.  I let out a sob.  I was just starting to make friends then Hewa had to come and kill them.  Hawk weakly looked up and said quietly, "it will be okay, I'll be with Drey again.  I'll tell him you said hi." He says jokingly. And with that last breath Hawk passes.

"What the heck is wrong with you?" I yell at Hewa, getting to my feet.

"He was going to kill you," Hewa simply said.

"No he wasn't!  He was upset because you killed Drey!  He may have taken his anger out on me, but he realized it wasn't my fault!"

" He could have turned on you."

"Well you wouldn't have known that, would you, because you killed him!"

Hewa only shrugged and said "I didn't want to take the chance."  I let out an annoyed sigh.  "Come on let's go," Hewa said.

"I'm not going anywhere!"

"Okay," Hewa said, grabbing my wrist and dragging me off. I managed to grab Hawk's sword.  "Don't even think about it," Hewa growled.  I stared at him before freeing myself from his grasp, washing the blood off. "Then grabbing the sheath I strapped it to my belt, putting the sword away.
