A Demon's Beginnings

Jinny finds herself annoyed and confused.

Sure, she isn't the most careful person regarding computer viruses invading her electronics, but she still got the basics and nothing really bad had happened in all her twenty odd years of interacting with the web.

Until today it seems.

She's just been playing around while watching one of her favourite Vtuber's streams, the happy and easily excitable nature of the lunar moth calling herself Juniper Actias has always appealed to Jinny, well, that and the fact that she is a monster girl, when all of a sudden, a pop up appeared on her monitor.

It blocked her entire screen and also paused the stream, leaving her in a sudden silence and alone with her thoughts while starring at the odd interruption.

Tracing her eyes along the text on the add like thing, reading through the grand title and instructions underneath, Jinny found herself smiling wryly at the cliché that had befallen her.

"This is ridiculous." She mutters with mild amusement in her voice as she begins to try different methods to get rid of the window blocking her screen.

Clicking, dragging, shortcuts, unplugging and finally she threw the whole monitor out of her window on the third floor.

Throughout the whole ordeal, Jinny's amusement got replaced by surprise, doubt and lastly excitement as the result of her actions slowly revealed the actuality of her situation.

Staring down on the sidewalk underneath her window where she had thrown the screen displaying the pop up, Jinny's excitement exploded and a large grin seemingly holding a slight ting of madness split her face.

Dashing out of her room and apartment without bothering to put on any shoes or socks, she arrives on the sidewalk where her computers monitor laid, completely intact and without the slightest of scratches, still showing the pop up like before.

Crouching over the screen with her bare feet on the cold concrete of the street, Jinny stares down at the piece of supernatural technology with her grin still in place.

Poking the piece of tech with a finger, she comes to a decision.

"Let's give it a try. Worst case scenario I die and disappear into the void, but that doesn't really matter anyway." Grabbing the screen and carrying it under her arm back up to her room, Jinny sets everything back in place before flopping into the chair.

Peering at the instructions of the pop up, Jinny taps a finger against her lower lip as she ponders.

'What should I choose?' Taking her time to try coming up with something, she ultimately throws her arms in the air.

"Fuck it! Too many options! I'll just go with something that has good potential and then worry when actually there." Nodding to herself in confirmation, she quickly goes over the worlds and characters most prominent in her mind.

A smile soon graces her lips and fingers fly across the keyboard, quickly filling up a few lines into the empty space provided by the supernatural wish granting add.

Looking over what she wrote, Jinny chuckled at the second modification, what could she say, she liked moth girls, and the idea of a demonic moth was quite appealing to her.

Making sure she got everything, she hits the finish button on the bottom of the pop up.

She barely managed to get out a low chuckle before her limbs suddenly became incredible heavy as a numbing coldness crawls up her arms and legs, converging upon her head where it snuffed out all thoughts.

Like a puppet with its strings cut, Jinny's body slumps into the chair and a glowing white bluish whisp exits the body.

Before the whisp could move any further, the screen on which the pop up had been displayed shatters and a black, featureless limb bursts out, taking hold of the whisp and pulling it into the screen.

An unknown amount of time later, Jinny's mind stirs again only to find herself submerged in a viscous liquid.

Confusion and fear flash through her mind as she tries to orient herself in this foreign place, only to rapidly fade when she remembered.

'It actually worked! Heck yeah!' With her bearings gathered and an idea of what kind of situation she is in, Jinny didn't hesitate to start bashing and scratching the walls around her.

Cracks open in the walls, or "shell", to be more accurate, from the onslaught of her fists and claws.

The viscous liquid drained out of them and allowed Jinny to take her first actual breath in her new body.

Another moment later she broke a large enough hole into the shell to escape the clutches of the black egg with dark green tint in which she has been reborn.

Landing on the reddish black sand of the Vulcanic beach, Jinny scrambles to get back on her feet and turns to her egg, not paying the otherworldly sights, like the purple moon, the blood red sea or the swats of different shaped and coloured eggs surrounding her any mind as of yet.

'My situation is very advantageous. As a premature born specimen surrounded by yet to hatch demon eggs filled with soul's ripe for the taking, all of them completely vulnerable with no way to protect themselves, it will be easy to get started. But first I need to get my inherit memories from the shell of my egg, and the cheat of course hehehe.' Driven by excitement and a hunger originating from her the surreal situation and freshly hatched body, she moves to devour the crispy blackish green shell and takes in the fragmented information about the realm she would call home from now on and the name bestowed upon her.

But that is not what she was looking forward to the most.

Her action also activated the most important feature which was the main reason for her choice to be transmigrated into this world as this particular person.

Grinning widely at the panel that has appeared in her vision, Jinny chuckled at the change in the name, having switched from the original king to queen so that it fit her gender.

She waits giddily for the eye symbol on the screen to blink once with a *Click* sound to take her profile picture.

When it finished, the panel changed and what greet her is a slightly altered and childlike version of the moth Vtuber she had been watching not too long ago.

White hair with green bangs. Four arms, two of which come out of her back and end in three fingered, clawed hands. Fern like moth antennas at the top and thin wings sprout out of the back of her head.

'Sweet, I really look like her! There are a few small differences, such as sharp claws on my main hands, a lot more chitin on my torso, covering up my private parts, and two curved black horns on my forehead, but nothing that ruins the whole monster girl look.' Happy with how her modification had turned out, Jinny's eyes, now deep green with a thin red circle around the black pupil and abyssal black sclera instead of white, curve in satisfaction as she opens her status.

The first thing that immediately grabbed Jinny's attention other than the slight alterations in the displayed status to the one she knew from the novel is the displayed name.

'Hm? Did my modification also change my name?... well… why not? New life new name! From today on I, Jinny, am Juniper Actias!' Declaring this in her mind, the freshly renamed Juniper closes the system and turns her gaze across the beach made up of sand that glowed red like hot coal and is filled with demon eggs.
