20 CHAPTER 19

Letting out a groan as my body resisted all movement, I slowly tried to sit my ass down on my twin-sized bed with small whimpers of pain slipping out of my lips.

Kevin Hatch is a fucking tyrant. He not only made us train for six hours straight with zero breaks or even a small moment of rest, but after going through an hour of stretching and then two hours of physical combat where he made all of us attack him at once without using our powers, he moved our training from the practice room to the simulation room used alone by recruits.

I might be a fucking guardian descendant of the great Elytrum empire, but I haven't trained in centuries and besides, my host's body is extremely weak. I feel like I simply have on a skin made out of rubber.

"Fuck this shit, I miss the times where all you needed to do was go into the woods and face off with the enemy like a real bitch." I groan to myself, completely forgetting the fact that right across from me is my snobby roommate who's still holding some kind of hateful grudge against me… or rather against my host.

Turning to stare at me in confusion, she frowns her brows, which only makes the hardened scowl on her pretty face even more ugly. "What?"

Letting out a sigh, I turn to her with a shake of my head. "Nothing, don't mind me I'm just mumbling shit."

"You've changed." She observes, her head tilted as she studies me carefully.

"Uhh, what do you mean?" I feign ignorance.

"I mean I noticed it when you didn't recognize me but I'd simply thought it was because of your memory loss," Rising from her bed into a sitting position, she folds both hands before her and continues with narrowed eyes. "Now that I'm taking a closer look at you, I can see that you aren't her. Aurora doesn't use profane words because she detests them, and ever since we met something about you seems off."

Not sure how to reply because I'm pretty much caught off guard right now, I simply stare at the white blonde with what I hope is a clueless expression. "It's you, isn't it. Your Akaia."

"I'm sorry, but what!" I asked with a startled expression, eyes wide in shock.

Letting her lips tilt up slightly, she doesn't reply but instead stretches herself back on her bed and closes her eyes. "The problem, and possibly the biggest threat to using the simulation method of training is the fact that everything felt, and everything that happens in that virtual world is felt in actual reality."

"Is this your way of changing the subject?" I ask in bafflement, still staring at the blonde.

Rather than reply, she continues as if I never spoke. "When people think about simulations they think about imitations of the operation of a real-world process or system done through virtual reality. The technology of past times makes it seem like all you have to do is put on some cool goggles and stand before a screen, experiencing the magic of virtual technology and its advancement. But in this day and age, simulations are done through brain sensors. You don't just step into a virtual world, but you're experiencing everything that happens within. Which is why once the simulation ends, some weak-minded people who do not grasp or are not used to such process experience what scientist calls phantom pain. The strong ones can shrug off the experience knowing everything that happened wasn't a reality, but some do not wake up with such a strong mindset so they experience these pains by making their brains send signals to their bodies."

Opening her eyes, she turns her head my way. "If you want to survive in this day and age, I suggest you get with the program and stop making so much noise." She closes her eyes once again and turns on her side, keeping her back to me.

Angry at her smugness, I blow up in rage. "Who the fuck–"

A loud bang against our door cut me off as a guard on patrol yells from the outside. "Keep it down in there and go to sleep, your curfew starts now."

Damn it all to hell, this bitch is so lucky. I thought, feeling my rage build within my body.

Hands clenched by my side I take in several breathes to cool down a little and lay back. Tomorrow is another day, and I'll need all the rest I can get.
