1 Chapter 1- Log in

"So, see you inside the game?" a black-haired young man said.

"Sure. Although we still need to see if we're going to spawn in the same village, I'll text you in-game, okay?" Edwin answered.

"Sure, then I'll see you later. Bye," the black-haired young man said and then waved his right hand.

"So Dawn, let's see if you are all that," Edwin thought, lost in his daydreams.

Dawn was the first VRMMORPG, and everyone was looking forward to playing it, especially Edwin. He had been saving money for the game capsule, and luckily managed to buy it in time for the launch.

Edwin went to his room right after saying goodbye to his friend, Raffin. They lived close to each other as they were both freshmen in college, and the two of them were going to play Dawn together. And not just them. Some other mutual friends of both would join. They were even thinking about creating a guild.

Edwin's room was organized and clean. He always did it because his mother taught him that way, and he would never let her down.

The room had a bed, a small table where Edwin did his work, his wardrobe, and of course, the game capsule on top of the bed. He wasted no time and immediately connected to Dawn, as the server was due to be opened in a few moments.

[Welcome to Dawn]

"Welcome, player. I am the artificial intelligence created to assist you in your character creation and to clear up any doubts about the game, of course," a young woman with red hair told Vincent as soon as he connected to the game. The two were at that moment inside a completely white room, with absolutely nothing.

"Now, please choose your race," the young woman told Edwin.

Dawn at that time had only three races; humans, elves, and dwarves. Edwin opted for the human race.

All races had some different bonuses. Nothing very relevant, since most of the difference would be in the class choice, the race would only influence in one detail, and of course, in appearance.

Edwin thought of choosing an elf, but in the end, opted for the human. The dwarf was out of the question for him.

"Okay, now please choose your class," the young woman said after Edwin had chosen his race.

"Let's see what classes I can choose from."

Dawn had some basic starting classes, just like all MMORPGs. Warrior, wizard, archer, cleric, rogue, and the berserker.

The warrior wore heavy armor and was the party tank.

The mage was focused on damage and possessed spells from several elements.

The archer dealt damage from a distance.

The cleric was focused on heals and buffs, indispensable in every party.

The rogue wielded one or two daggers and were the assassins in Dawn.

Finally, the berserker focused entirely on physical damage and used a two-handed sword.

"Berserker," Edwin didn't think twice and went straight to pick berserker. He would not choose a tank class since his friend Raffin would be the tank of the party. And he knew that his other friends would choose classes that dealt range damage, as they always did in all the MMORPGs they played together. So because of that, Edwin always played berserker, and in Dawn would be the same.

"Do you wish to modify your appearance? Remember that Dawn doesn't allow too much character customization," the young woman said.

Edwin decided to modify his character a little. That way, he wouldn't be recognized so easily in real life. A new hairstyle and some other small details were enough since the game did not allow much more than that.

"Everything ready then. The starting village is random. But don't worry, all the starting villages will meet in the same big city when they reach level 10, so if you plan to play with some friends you can meet them there," the young lady said.

"At least we can meet up at level 10. But I'll have to play alone until level 10, and I've no idea if it takes too long to acquire experience points in this game," Edwin thought, and right after that, he got teleported.

His vision blurred, and Edwin felt as he was traveling quickly through some kind of tunnel. The nausea was inevitable, but in the end, he did not vomit thrown up.

"Where am I?" Edwin wondered as soon as he opened his eyes and saw a crowd of players. Everyone had happy faces, and they were eager to discover the fantastic world of Dawn, and he was no different from them.

"Where should I start?" Edwin didn't rush and first thought about all the possibilities he had at that moment. He could rush into the fields and try to kill mobs to level up, but he was certain that the competition in there would be savage, and the parties with more players would take advantage. Edwin was alone at that moment, so no way he would be able to compete. The only thing he could do was try to find some quest of some sort, or be crazy and rush into a higher-level area.

Edwin walked through the village streets, amazed by how realistic the game was. It looked exactly like real life, and he couldn't wait to experience the adrenaline of fighting monsters. The village was starting to get emptier and emptier as everyone decided to rush towards the mobs. Edwin was smarter than that and was exploring the place before others did. He was sure that after people realize the difficulty of sharing mobs with thousands of players they would look for other ways to earn XP, and Edwin wanted to grab the best missions while he could.

He noticed a dark alley within the village, and a skinny guy laying on the floor. The man was dirty and smelled like shit, and by the looks of it, didn't eat in a long time.

"Can I help you, sir?" Edwin asked, trying to be as polite as he could to that strange man. The man looked at him after hearing it and smiled. Edwin noticed that the man's front teeth were missing.

"Would you help me, young man? Ohhh, you're such a hero." the strange man got up and said.

"Can you give me some bread? I'm willing to trade with you."
