4 Chapter 4

Facing millions of undead soldiers and sinister looking creatures with different strengths and weaknesses, the invading force though confident with their numbers, were still unsure if they would be able to achieve victory.

As Aranel rode to the front lines, each and every soldier within this combined army felt slightly more confident because many heard the war stories surrounding this leader.

Aranel had been active for so long and had been responsible for battling against other legendary figures in history who bloomed those who were currently serving in this battle from their training methods to strategies.

With this boosted morale of his army, Aranel was very swift in riding to the front lines. There was no telling how this battle would turn out, but he along with every other soldier was ready to begin the battle of today.

Those who fought small skirmishes against the Demon Lord's armies made it very clear that once day broke, the army would have only until the sky turned dark to make an impact within battle.

Being a necromancer, the Demon Lord was prone to having a large boost of power during the night, and as much as Aranel wanted to have this only last a single day and battle for victory, he knew as well as the others that this would not be the case.

Luckily, some other forces who sold intel to this Continental Alliance informed them that one of the Demon Lord's generals had a similar set of techniques and powers. With this information, the strategy was to allow many wounded but to refrain from allowing too many deaths.

If their enemy could bring enough of their allies back from the dead to fight under their banner, it would cause quite a large impact on this invasion.

Although, soldiers were trained in general to deal with such psychological blows that could occur on the battlefield, it was better for this army to not take any chances.

Arriving in the front lines of his headquarters that had a view of the entire wall that blocked their entrance from the Demon Lord's lands, Aranel gathered some of his trusted soldiers who would be in charge of relaying his commands to each of the small armies who were fighting under their banner.

"Interesting." was the only thing Aranel said while scanning the entire wall in its entirety with the small armies who were ready to start their opening attacks.

The generals on the Demon Lord's side were spread out but fairly easy to spot regardless of where one stood looking towards them on the battlefield. Being much stronger and surrounded by powerful undead, these generals were able to look down on their enemies.

Each general had large dark mist covering their bodies along with hooded black clothes as if they were impersonating their overlord who was often referred to as the Grim Reaper.

What was unexpected, is that Aranel was unwilling to send any of the small armies to attack the walls for over one hour. The generals on the opposing side did not care because that meant that the alliance had far less time to try to take the wall down.

The Demon Lord felt that even if it was to probe the strength of the average soldier, once night fell, he could use his increased strength to send some sneak attacks against the army to rattle them.

This was after all only a battle of survival for the Demon Lord which was easily managed if he could make it to night on each day. Even if he was driven back by his foes, time was all he needed to recover and not much time.

"Tell our right flank to begin their advance." Aranel ordered one of his servants as only a nod could be seen as a reply before that servant disappeared.

"And you, tell our left flank to take it easy today, but to be ready to act at any moment." Aranel told another servant.

Right now what the Demon Lord wanted as a defender was more time to continue resupplying his troops. What he did not realize, was that Aranel did not mind to make this a drawn out battle himself.

The reason behind this was that Aranel arranged for reinforcements to arrive within four days from today. The reinforcements would nearly double the attack force he was currently managing.

This would not prevent Aranel from trying to obtain victory before the fourth day. Right now since Aranel felt he had some time to probe the Demon Lord's forces, that it would be wise for him to take an opportunity and run with it.

As word reached the right flank, the four generals who were in charge of four separate but combined armies began to make their moves as the Demon Lord's army began to intercept them with a large volley of poisonous arrows that rained down from the sky.
