1 Prologue

A red sky hung over the silent city, encasing the buildings in a warm light. The streets were empty, like the citizens knew to stay indoors. A light breeze passed through the chilly air.

The atmosphere was tense, like the world was holding its breath.

On a tall high-rise, a silhouette appeared.

The teenage girl held a large black case in hand. She wore black goggles and an earpiece. Her long black hair was tied up in a ponytail. Clad in a black jumpsuit, she monitored the scene 1000 yards away.

A deadly fight occupied the area. Four figures fought ferociously on the ground, while one provided air support. Another underground.

Fists slammed into bodies and bullets richochet across both sides. Knives and daggers gleamed under the setting sun. She could see their energy shields flickering. They would die out soon.

Five against fifty. Her heart winced as she watched one get stabbed. She could hear the yelling and swearing through the ear piece as her teammates fought for their lives.

And she was stuck here, unable to help them.

Her voice quavered. "Ares, permission to engage."

"Denied," He yelled back, "Your only aim is the target."

She clenched her fists.

How did they even get discovered? Were the mission details leaked? The Organization always monitored S class missions closely so why didn't they get a warning? She cursed the person who had given them this suicide mission.

Her eyes darkened. They would not fall here. No.

Team Omega never fails.

They had climbed out of the bottom rungs of society, washing the world in blood. The bonds that tied them were deeper than blood. Together, they were unstoppable force.

We never fail, she mentally chanted.

"Come on out," she muttered, scanning for the target. She tapped her fingers anxiously against the case. They just needed to take out the boss, and then they could retreat.

Her earpiece buzzed. "Blackbird, get ready."

She immediately opened the case, revealing a set of parts. She quickly assembled the rifle, hands blurring as she slid and connected everything in place. This model was new, designed to pierce through the energy barriers protecting the body.

She laid flat on the roof and positioned the rifle. "Blackbird in position."

"You better not miss Xiao Qi." She heard the teasing but tired voice of Wendy.

"Target has appeared. He is running west." Ares informed.

She watched the blurring silhouette weaving in between enemies. Looks like he knew there were snipers. "I got him."

She loosened a breathe, and aimed. Bam!

It felt like time slowed down. The bullet pierced through air and space. She heard the roar and felt the recoil in her wrist.

Suddenly, a shadow jumped in front of the target.

The bullet tore straight through the heart.

Her heart plummeted as she viewed the scene through the scope. She dropped the rifle in shock, as panicked yells rang from the earpiece. She froze, mind blank.

What had she just done.
