6 The Finishing Touches

Once the items entered the egg, they were broken down and combined with the chaotic energy. The process creates a transmutation, turning the objects into parts of the body.

During their prime, each beautiful treasure was forged and tempered through adversity and battle. Growing with the users throughout the ages, they withstood the test of time to cement their mark into history. That durability and endurance, along with the bodies of the treasures transformed into the bones and the flesh of Vara.

Each grotesque material had a unique property, something in their DNA that determined their functions and origins. Though they were all uniquely different, each element had something in common, and that something was that they were all once part of something living.

The genetic properties of the materials shaped the organs, and the life energy that was preserved in each item formed the blood that flowed through his veins.

Each treasure and material had a history, whether it be a legend or a curse. The tales formed the brain, and the legends formed the heart. Using the brain and heart as a gateway, they flowed into the soul and mind and began rebuilding.

As the body was forming, chaotic energy flowed through each limb and each cell, creating a network within the body. An extra-large batch of chaotic energy gathered in the head, creating the features and senses.

All of this occurred at the same time, and in this mass of chaos laid a small orange pearl floating uninhibited by its surroundings.

Days passed, and the egg has stabilized. A slow rhythmic beating was emanating from the egg. A silhouette of a young man curled up like a ball could be seen through the thin shell.

Within Vara's mind, a void could no longer be seen. Instead, a variety of colors encompassed the area. Within the center of his mind, there was no longer Vara, but the same orange pearl. Only this orange pearl was 100 times larger than the one outside the space.

Days before, Vara was uncontrollably sucking in energy through his mouth. He became a transmitter for all the chaos outside the body to flow into his mental space.

Initially, he was worried about his circumstances, but as time passed and he continued to eat, he entered a trance-like state. Through the process of energy transference and the non-stop operation of devouring, he was able to catch a glimpse of something.

Just as a swordsman, in training, swings a sword, hundreds and thousands of times. Vara's non-stop devouring for hours and days on end allowed him to understand some type of law concerning devouring. From that point, the process became smoother and more comfortable as time went on.

It was as if he was perfecting the craft of devouring. However, he only touched upon it and didn't truly grasp it when the energy finally stopped pouring in. Once the last bit of energy entered Vara, he awakened from his trance.

Instinctively, he licked around his mouth, attempting to savor any taste that remained as if he just consumed a delicacy. A look of regret appeared on his face as he could no longer taste or feel anything.

'Hmm, I am not sure what exactly that was, but it feels like I only scratched the surface. The good thing though is that whatever it was, I know the feeling now. If I ever encounter that feeling again, I won't let it go no matter what it takes. Who knows when I will taste something that delicious or feel that great ever again?'

Vara licked his lips as he remembered that experience. What initially felt like torture soon became a euphoric experience in which he couldn't wait to return to.

'I hope this doesn't make me a masochist now?'

Vara couldn't help but joke to himself. Looking around, he noticed his surroundings have now become oddly colorful.

'This looks like the weird space that I met Menos in... Speaking of that where is he.'

Vara searched around him, but all he saw was the colors. There was no hint of Menos' presence.

"Seems like you managed to survive. Congratulations, you have faced through the most difficult part, but don't get too excited. It will still take a lot of work for you to successfully live through rebirth. However, from my point of view, it is only a matter of time at this point."

Vara's mouth began moving without his control once again, but this time, Vara didn't even react to it. He was just happy to hear that the hardest part was over.

"You might not be going to die, but there is still one thing that you still need to eat to complete the transformation."

Vara's eyes glance down at his mouth, waiting for it to finish its sentence. However, it did not say anything which left Vara perplexed.

'What does it mean. What else could there possibly be left to eat in this space? All I see are colors, and I am pretty sure I have already had my fill of that..."

As Vara pursed his lips in frustration, a thought flashed through his head. He looked towards his mouth again, and in response, a laugh sounded from it, but it wasn't Vara laughing.

"Hahaha, yep that's right, you need to eat me and then your new self will officially form."

Vara was surprised to be told that his suspicions were correct. The mouth was the only thing in his head that wasn't technically a part of him. However, now, a couple of questions have emerged.

"Uhh, one, how am I supposed to eat my own mouth. Are you going to separate from it because if it is anything like how you fused with it, I think I'll pass? Two, what are you anyway?"

The mouth didn't answer Vara. Vara was going to repeat himself, but before he could say anything, he saw something in the corner of his eye. Looking up from his mouth, he became startled as an orange pearl was floating right before him.

'Hmm, that looks familiar.'

Vara wracked his brain. He felt like he had seen this object before. Though that was a lifetime to go. In fact, multiple lifetimes ago. Before the crazy war within himself, even startled. Right then, like lighting, his memory resurfaced, remembering the orange pearl he had in his hands before the rebirth process had started.

"Oh right, this is the pearl that started this crazy fiasco. Menos, the weird space, the rebirth, everything."

"That is me."

As Vara picked up the item from the air, his mouth responded. He blinked multiple times, trying to process what he had just heard. His eyes widened with shock as he glanced at his mouth once again.

"What!!!"

"Well, not entirely me. I used a piece of your mind to construct the form you had seen. I am the pearl of gluttony, created from chaos itself. You who hungered for freedom and now thirst for power resonated with me. You were able to keep from devouring yourself as you faced your inner demons.

Now to complete the process of becoming a child of chaos, a link is needed. One that connects with chaos and you. I am that link. By eating me, I will become a part of you, and body reconstruction will begin."

Vara felt conflicted. He understood that the arrow has left the bow and there was no turning back, but he had to eat something that had a conscious like it was alive. Not only that, but it had helped him discover himself. He didn't want to kill it.

"Such foolish thoughts. It looks like you still have much to learn. For one, I am not alive, so I can't be killed. I am part of your mind just altered. That part needs to return to the source. Also, this is what I have been working for all this time, meaning I want it. Don't ruin all my years of searching on such a pathetic thought. Remember now, you are no longer prey, but a true bloodthirsty predator. NOW EAT!!!"

After being lectured by his own mouth, realization and resolution quickly entered his mind. He no longer hesitated as he popped the gem into his mouth like a piece of candy. Like the jewel was made of jelly, it liquified and slid down his throat.

Vara shivered in delight as a savory taste filled his mouth. The gem was the most delicious thing he had ever tasted. If the chaotic energy he had just consumed were home-cooked meals cooked by a mother, then this gem was like a medium-rare steak eaten at a restaurant that was perfectly prepared by a top-rated chef.

Vara basked in the flavor as he sank into unconsciousness. A more massive orb then the one he had just eaten surrounded his conscious self. Once the gem closed and sealed his inner self, mind, and body became connected, and the transformation began.

Now, as days have passed, something been brewing in those shells. It has taken days maybe weeks, months, or even years to form. Until finally, one day, a sound was heard. A single crack in the outer shell, which signaled the beginning of something new.
