1 How it all began...

INTRODUCTION;

My name is Degataga Eagle. I was born on July 5th, 1951 on a reserve called "Six Nations" or "Six Nations of the Grand River", which is located near Brantford,Ontario.

As a child, I remember my mother bringing me for a walk in the field and all of a sudden a group of men in black suits took me away. My mother tried to fight them off and save me but there was no use. I was about to go to school no matter what. I was still allowed to send my mother letters but I had to make sure it was properly sealed so that I would not be caught using my traditional language. Still, it was not the same as the reserve. I remember crying every day and night for my homeland to be back... but it felt hopeless. There was no way I could escape, no matter what I did the teachers would come after me.

For eight years, I struggled, fighting for my right as a human being and struggling to find my own identity. After that, I guess I just stopped caring about what happened to me. I struggled all throughout my schooling years until I got the chance to go to University, something that changed my life forever. All the abuse and pain still haunts me, especially in dreams. I can still hear the voices of angry teachers, screaming at me with their mocking words. My life was hard, and it also seemed unnecessary for me or any of my people to suffer. Even now when I am so much older I cannot understand the reason behind taking children from their homes near the nature, they are just so innocent!!! They have not disobeyed any of the rules that the government had set before them, they were just little happy beings who played, cried, sang and danced together. Now because of cruel hearts, my people have lost their way, our culture has just deteriorated over time and some of our traditions have been lost. It is sad to think that people still hate us, even though we have never done anything wrong and were forced to give our land. I wish I were powerful enough to save these children from their abuse before they were even taken out of their homes.

I currently work in a laboratory with a group of scientists, trying to experiment with technology and create a device that could transport a person back in time. We have had some failed attempts but pretty soon we might be successful.
