Chapter 13: Seek and Find

Hannah’s pov

This has been the longest day ever. Whatever phone call Damon got was clearly very important because he had most of the staff stay late. I wasn’t really needed, but he gave me odd jobs that were probably above my pay grade. I did them but wasn’t expecting a position change any time soon.

I get a lot of looks from everyone as if they know what he and I did or maybe did. I keep going back and forth with that and have yet to come up with a result. I can’t just ask him either— that wouldn’t look good for him, and I didn’t want to hurt his pride.

Blaine was wrong; men are way more emotional.

Because it was so late, I didn’t want to bother the boatman, so I called Bridget and decided to stay over at her house. She doesn’t live far from the center of town, maybe a good twenty minutes, but with the nights being cooler than the days, I don’t mind the walk.

I’m about two blocks from her house when a scent catches my nose.
