32 Last lifetime's wish

Spending the whole day lot on reading medicinal books, Zhi suffered an information overload. She could feel her brain had short-circuited and unable to function any longer. That was when Little Jae broke it to her that he could store the information from the books just by Zhi touching it. When she needed the knowledge, Little Jae could extract it and provide them for her.

Such convenience. Such a cheat.

Zhi almost thought that if she had Little Jae during her degree, examinations would be a breeze. But what was even a degree?

As Zhi joined Medical class only, she had no other day classes like Lai Ming who had three classes all in the day session. The mysterious Economics class and quirky Martial Arts class were night classes thus she could only attend them in the evening. So, she went back to her dorm earlier than her other peers.

As she sat by the window and waited for the sun to set, a woman's voice reverberated within her soul space.

"Great that the General has taken a favor of you..."

Zhi blinked in silence.

Apparently since Little Jae's presence was not felt around the area, the host's soul had come out.

"He used the same joke to that woman before. Useless jokes."

Zhi had wanted to retort that those were not useless but kept to herself. Arguing over children's jokes was...childish. It was alright for a grown lady i.e. her to like those kind of jokes but arguing with another grown lady (soul) about them? She did not have the pleasure. She'd rather imagine the meowntain of kitties.

"...When was the last time. No, Yanchen is a meanie. How many- He said I was the only one..."

Sprawling her upper body across the small study table, Zhi's eyes blankly stared into the skies. The weather outside was lukewarm as the orange skies spread across the horizon. Birds flew in a flock to somewhere she knew not. Perhaps trying to settle on a big tree for the night, and continued migrating the next day.

Inside the small room, there was just a jobless woman and a whiny soul.

Someone was a naturally good listener, even though she looked like having little care to the babblings of a certain soul, Zhi was certainly listening attentively. Some things she could hardly relate to like how was it feel like to be loved by the opposite gender but betrayed at the end... and what was jealousy and what was longing. She knew clearly that those were not food at least.

Could Little Jae provide the answers? Had Zhi touched a book that speak about those things? If not, which section in the library could she find the books?

As Zhi watched the sun finally set, the small sniffling sounds started to disappear with the melancholic afternoon. Her pair of moist eyes was closed briefly. Zhi yawned.

"I promised this lifetime would be the last. I shall abide to my words, therefore please, help me."

In the lonely dusk, the words spoken by a broken soul, contained traces of complete resignation. It then drifted away along with the orange skies.

Utterly alone Zhi was now.

Thinking that it was time for the Martial Arts class, she closed the windows and changed into her Raven outfit...
