5 Whitemoon Goblin

The goblins were a race that loved to hoard treasures and gold. That was why they could be frequently seen in gold and silver mines. According to the poster on the notice board, the Whitemoon Goblins were known by their names because of their association with the Whitemoon Stones. The Whitemoon Stone had a special imbuing power that enhances the physical attacks of the wielder. The Whitemoon Goblins therefore were known for their ferociousness and aggressiveness, caused by long-term exposure to these precious stones.

The picture on the poster depicted each of them having a white moon crescent mark on their forehead, a signature of sort to classify them as Whitemoon Goblins and not just normal goblins.

Kael scanned the poster from top to bottom, and then he saw that the request to harvest Whitemoon Stones was posted up by the City Lord, Richard Duran himself. Apparently Whitemoon Stone was an essential item in helping the City Lord to craft and refine an Uncommon Rank item for him to soul-bind to.

The poster also mentioned that the expedition this time would have 50 people participating; the bare minimum requirement was to be at the Commoner Rank Lower Phase, while the leader of the expedition was Richard Duran's right hand man, Patten Eagle, a Commoner Rank Late Phase cultivator.

Besides the cultivation requirement, priority would be given to cultivators who had experience in mining precious gems and stones. This was so that they would have the dual purpose of guarding against the Whitemoon Goblins and to harvest the Whitemoon Stones.

Their purpose this time was to harvest 5 kilograms worth of stones, which would then be ample enough for repeated tries of refining and crafting the item that the City Lord needed.

A bounty of 20 gold was enough to make the common cultivator go crazy. It would be enough for them to survive on basic necessities for a good whole year. That was very worth it when the task was only for 3 days, excluding the time needed to travel to and fro the Whitemoon Mine.

The test to sieve out the applications for the task would be held in the middle of the city square, a near distance from where Kael was now.

When Kael reached the venue where the test would be held, which was actually a big wide open concrete field, there was already a group of cultivators and normal people creating a commotion there. Kael squeezed into the crowd to see what was going on in the middle of the circle of people.

"Isn't that a Whitemoon Goblin? So the test is to fight against this goblin?"

"I think that's right. I heard that the City Lord went to the Whitemoon Mine to harvest the Whitemoon Stone. However, he stopped his troops from entering beyond the entrance of the cave for some unknown reason. When they came back, they brought this captive goblin with him as well!"

Most of the people gathered there were just to watch the show. They were afraid of losing their lives in this expedition. If even the City Lord turned tails, that went to show that the Whitemoon Mine wasn't exactly a safe place to be?

Nonetheless, there were some die-hard cultivators that lived life on the edge. Every single gold coin or penny was earned through risking their lives for it. It was precisely this kind of people that Patten Eagle, the leader of the expedition, was looking for.

Kael sized up the situation, and he saw that there were 2 people encircling a fierce and ferocious Whitemoon Goblin in the center. A Beastmaster, though noticeably smaller in size than Richard Duran, was standing at one corner invigilating them. Kael thought that he must be Patten Eagle. Besides Patten Eagle was a group of cultivators that looked largely similar to Patten Eagle, be it in terms of their dressing and tattoos and symbols on their bodies.

It was then that Kael realized that the City Lord's elites were all trained in the Beastmaster profession.

The Whitemoon Goblin snarled at the two cultivators and was brandishing its claws at them. Normal goblins didn't have claws, but under the effect of the Whitemoon Stone, the Whitemoon Goblins had evolved into possessing an upgraded offensive ability.

One of the cultivator, wielding a sword, jumped up and hacked down at the goblin. The goblin received the attack by wielding his claws to block the sword slash.

"Cling!" Sounds of metals clashing rang out. It seemed that the goblin's claws were a natural weapon. It was actually as tough and durable as normal metal.

"Just die!" The cultivator roared as he was angry that he didn't get the upper hand. He tried once again with the same hacking method, but he imbued a spirit art into this slash, making it noticeably more powerful.

However, it produced the same effects. The goblin casually parried off the attacks and then gave an evil smile. It chattered in the goblin language. Though it wasn't understood, people knew that he was mocking the cultivator that tried killing it.

The other cultivator, who was wielding a sword as well, decided to stop. He said, "Since my friend here, who is more powerful than me, couldn't do anything against the Whitemoon Goblin, I might as well just give up this expedition."

With that, he left the circle. The first cultivator also sighed and sheathed his sword, disappearing into the crowd.

"Wow, a single Whitemoon Goblin is so powerful. Who could deal with them when they number in the hundreds in the mine?"

"That's right. It's not an easy bounty to fulfill. Just look at those claws. One will have a great headache dealing with it."

Murmurs amongst the crowd sounded. There were not many cultivators who were confident of passing this preliminary test of subduing a Whitemoon Goblin.

The goblin, meanwhile, knew it was going to die eventually under the pressure of so many cultivators. However, it remained aggressive and was constantly brandishing its claws and snarling at everyone in the circle.
