38 Wallie Dawson

Kael knew that he had made a deal of a century when he bought the Doubling Monster Core. It would be an essential item that would accompany him wherever he went as he continued to improve his cultivation.

However, having a Doubling Monster Core didn't solve Kael's present pressing problems; cultivation resources for Kael and the Drakes. In fact, the situation became worse, as now Kael needed to find sufficient monster cores to evolve and rank up the Doubling Monster Core as well.

Initially, he thought that having money would solve the problem of lacking in cultivation resources. However, he was sorely mistaken. Fledgling City really was in dire lack of Heaven and Earth treasures. Even if he had wealth from the initial bounty mission to the Whitemoon Mines and the business dealing of the forging technique, he had no place to use his wealth in this place.

Now, he either had to go to other cities to purchase cultivation resources, or that he had to be admitted into Myriad Fledgling Institute as soon as possible.

Kael decided that if there was still no reply from the Myriad Fledgling Institute within the next three days, he would go to Fairview City to search for cultivation resources. He could also tap onto the Darram brothers' connections to find out more about the Myriad Lower Region and plan his next steps.

He dreaded to think that the Institute would still reject him. That meant that the secret in Fledgling City was only privy to the residents and not an outsider like him. Furthermore, he had done his own background research before. Ordinary residents only thought that the Institute was a normal school. As for the City Lord, he didn't reveal any secrets to Kael as well, no matter how much he probed.

Was he really not fated to be connected with this secret? As much as he was unwilling to, he had to make plans to progress in his cultivation. If not, he could only dream about going back to the Defense of the Ancients.

During the next two days, Kael removed himself from the outside world and stayed within the private suite in the tavern.

The Ice Artifice was hovering right above Kael, exuding cold energy which Kael absorbed into his body and then into his aurasea.

Previously, Kael's aurasea had received the essence blood of Feron Nightbringer, a high ranked Drow of the Myriad Midle Region. As a result, his body underwent a qualitative change and his physical strength was enhanced.

Now, Kael was attempting to do the same thing; absorbing the cold energy from the Ice Artifice to qualitatively change his body into an innate Ice constitution.

The cold energy wasn't violent like the essence blood. However, it's effects were marginal and didn't produce as quick a result as the essence blood. That was because this Ice Artifice was afterall a Common Rank Item. Things would be different if it was an Uncommon Rank Item.

It was already a rare thing to possess such an Ice attribute treasure. So Kael had no complaints, as he slowly absorbed the cold energy and try to change his constitution, gradually but slowly.

After two days, there was a slight chill in Kael's aurasea. The spiritual energy he condensed also exuded a slight cooling effect. This was the result of the two days of cultivation.

On the third day, Kael was preparing to leave Fledgling City. He thought that all he had done was for naught, and the only rewards he reaped were a sum of gold coins and an Ice Artifice, as well as the essence blood. All these were good takeaways that other cultivators would die for. However, a common cultivator could attend a school like Myriad Fledgling Institute, yet the Invoker wasn't able to? This was a great irony to Kael.

Just when he had given up hope, suddenly there was a knock on the door to his private suite in the tavern.

"Knock knock."

"Kael, the City Lord has good news for you. He's waiting in the residence." Patten Eagle came into the room and invited Kael.

Kael felt a sudden wave of expectancy in his heart. He nodded and left with Patten Eagle towards the City Lord residence.

In the meeting room in the City Lord residence.

Kael walked in through the doors together with Patten Eagle. He saw Richard Duran standing there with a wide grin plastered on his face. Standing next to him was an unfamiliar old man. He was dressed in a light brown robe and had a wizened look on his wrinkled face. The appearance of this stranger lit up a strange and faint hope in Kael.

"Greetings, City Lord. May I know why have you asked for me?"

"Kael, it's great to see you. Come, let's have a talk." Richard Duran beckoned for the people present to sit down.

"What is it about?"

"Remember Feron Nightbringer from Alwick Castle in the Desolate Isle of the Myriad Middle Region? Many factions from the Middle Region gained news of our forging technique and had appeared in our city demanding and coercing us for the recipe. However, the aide left behind by Feron Nightbringer had appeared in critical moments to declare that Fledgling City is now the ally of Alwick Castle, and any malicious intents towards our city is a declaration of war against Alwick Castle!"

"What were their responses?"

"Not just one or two factions, but all of them backed away! From what I have gleaned, even factions more powerful than Alwick Castle could only leave! That was because they couldn't risk an all-out war with a faction when other factions were eyeing their territories as prey. As such, Fledgling City is finally safe from the onslaught from the powerful Middle Region."

"Mm. That's right." The old man suddenly interjected. "For this reason, young Kael, we have decided to make an exception for you to enter the school grounds of the Myriad Fledgling Institute. That is because we now know that this ancient forging technique is finally solidly in our grasp and we are monopolizing the industry as a city. Therefore, this counts as a great and overwhelming contribution to Fledgling City."

"May I know who are you sir?"

"I'm the vice principal of the Institute. My name is Wallie Dawson. Pleased to make your acquaintance." The old man spoke calmly and slowly.
