14 Purchase

Since Kael had to do something extraordinary to catch the attention of the City Lord and to gain approval from the Fledgling Myriad Institute, a weapon was necessary for Kael to achieve his goals. Kael could rely on his arsenal of spirit arts to achieve this aim, however to fight bare-handed would deplete his magic reserves very quickly, since he was just a normal person who couldn't even be considered as a cultivator at the present moment. Having a weapon meant that he wouldn't unnecessarily drain on his magic reserves while killing monsters.

Kael's aim was thus to purchase a weapon and go into the depths of the forest to kill monsters.

The reason for that was to obtain cultivation resources for himself in the form of monster cores. Back in the Whitemoon Mines, a lot of goblin monster cores were uncovered by the expedition members. However, it was all kept by the members. The only monster that Kael killed was the huge goblin, but he offered the monster core to Patten Eagle for his help in tanking the monster's attacks.

Monster cores could be absorbed by the cultivator. The magic essence in the core would transmit into the meridians of the cultivator and nourish his aurasea. When one's aurasea was sufficiently nourished, he would naturally break into the Commoner Rank.

Kael wasn't hoping to breakthrough to the Commoner Rank just by relying on the monster cores that he could obtain. Sure, he could do that, but it would take him a long time to gather enough monster cores for a breakthrough. What he needed now was to expand his magic reserves in the aurasea to a sufficient degree for his next objective.

The higher ranked the monster that was killed, the greater the effects of the monster core on the cultivator's aurasea. Kael thus had to find monsters that were killable by him, yet not too mediocre for him to expend his efforts on.

With that in mind, Kael went to sleep.

The next morning, Kael left the private room in the tavern. He went down the stairs and inquired the innkeeper about the location of the blacksmith shop in town. The innkeeper naturally knew about Kael for his heroic deeds in the Whitemoon Mines. Therefore, he didn't dare to slight Kael and was respectful when giving Kael the answer he wanted.

"Dear Sir, there are quite a few blacksmith stores in Fledgling City, since this city is considered one of the biggest ones in our region. However, the most famous one in this city is Wayland the Smith. He is currently located at the southwest of the city, 2 miles down from here."

Normally, cultivators wouldn't go to a blacksmith for their weapons, unless it was to accessorize themselves. The reason for that was that normal weapons couldn't be soul-bound; only items made from Heaven and Earth Treasures could be soul-bound. The blacksmiths made their living through selling their items to normal people, other than that the store basically just acted as a front. Their main source of income was to be contracted by cultivators to forge items made from Heaven and Earth Treasures.

Kael thanked the innkeeper before making his way to Wayland the Smith.

After about 20 minutes, he reached the place. The store was not grand looking; it had a shabby front with all kinds of weapons ranging from sabers to clubs to maces hanging from the ceiling. Beside the display weapons was a forge. A muscular bearded middle aged man was smelting a weapon with his anvil at the moment in the forge.

"Wayland the Smith? I'm here to purchase a sword."

"Where are the materials?" The man replied in a gruff voice.

"I'm just purchasing a normal sword. I don't have any Heaven or Earth Treasures with me."

"Oh? You're not a cultivator? Pick any you like. 1 gold is fine." The man replied casually.

Wayland the Smith was one who holed himself up in the blacksmith shop. Though he had heard of the recent exploit of Kael, he was not quick to recognize the figure in front of him.

"Okay, I'll choose this one then." Kael picked up a sword with a slight curve and a bevel edge. It was lackluster in comparison to the swords that Kael had seen in his past life. In fact, it would be embarrassing to even compare them together. However, this sword suited Kael for his current purpose and agenda.

After speaking, Kael placed a gold coin on a table next to the forge and left.

Wayland the Smith didn't even bother to look at Kael during the whole process. Little did he know that Kael would come back a few days later to create an earthshaking news in the whole of Fledgling City and the neighboring cities in the Myriad Domain…

Kael left the city after purchasing the sword and putting it inside the item bag. He left many curious onlookers gossiping.

"Where is Kael going? Is he going to the Whitemoon Mines again? I heard they didn't finish their exploration the previous time."

"Who knows? However, it looks like he is going out alone this time. Without any company, I doubt that he can venture into the mines alone. After all, he is not even at the Commoner Rank yet."

"You can't use logic to measure this guy. Look at his monstrous knowledge of the Spirit Arts. He even drew a Spirit Array that can decimate a Herald Rank monster!"

"Having knowledge and ability is one thing. It is another thing to survive on your own outside for an extended period of time!"

"I heard Kael came from somewhere foreign. If not why won't we know of his existence earlier? That means that he has the capability to survive outside."

The discussion continued on and on. There were two different camps; one that was in favor of Kael and the other camp that was more skeptical of Kael's abilities because of his cultivation level. However, there was none who dared to antagonize him, speaking volumes of his level of impression in the hearts of the Fledgling City's natives.
