37 Evolving the Doubling Monster Core

"Doubling Monster Core?"

"Young Master Kael, you recognize this thing? The cultivator who found this treasure during his hunting mission in the Black Heart Forest couldn't manage to find a buyer in any of the neighboring cities. I don't wish to deceive you either. True, this monster core can replicate itself, however it only replicates once every six hours. It doesn't matter how much spiritual energy you inject into it within that period of time, it won't replicate. Furthermore, it is a Commoner Rank Lower Phase monster core, so it wasn't worth much. That was why the cultivator couldn't find a good price for this good and had to place it in my hands to sell it."

The peddler was honest and forthright, winning Kael's slight admiration. However, Kael was still deeply interested in this object. That was because he knew the true value of this Doubling Monster Core.

Knowledge within the Hundred Realms wasn't spread out perfectly. There was imperfect knowledge of varying degrees within the different realms. In a backwater region like the Myriad Domain, it was perfectly normal that they didn't recognize a Doubling Monster Core for what it was.

The Doubling Monster Core was able to replicate itself, producing an additional monster core for cultivation after a certain period of time, continuing indefinitely in an endless cycle. In this case, this monster core would produce a Commoner Rank Lower Phase monster core every six hours. This could be used for ingesting to help with cultivation.

Most people saw through this point, but to them, it was quicker to just hunt low level demonic beasts to obtain their monster cores. Such a Doubling Monster Core was of no value to them.

However, they didn't have the knowledge nor eyesight to determine that the Doubling Monster Core was actually able to evolve and rank up as a Heaven and Earth treasure. When Kael was the Invoker, he had the fortune to see one of his comrades possessing a Doubling Monster Core that was at the Ancient Rank Lower Phase. Once every six hours, it was producing another Ancient Rank Lower Phase monster core that was suitable for Ancient Rank cultivators to ingest and cultivate with.

As such, Kael knew that this was a treasure that was a great anomaly found in one in a million demonic beasts.

Of course, Kael wasn't going to reveal this knowledge to this peddler. If he knew the truth, Kael wouldn't have enough money to purchase this priceless object.

"How much are you selling this item for?"

"Not much. For its value, I estimate it to be 200 gold coins."

Kael pretended to frown, acting as if he was facing a ripoff. "That's too expensive. 150 gold coins." Kael wanted to give the impression that this object wasn't as valuable as 200 gold coins. This would cover the fact that he was actually dying to be in possession of this treasure.

"Alright, normally I won't sell it. However, since it is Young Master Kael, who had done so many great deeds in Fledgling City, I'll part with this item for 150 gold coins." The peddler was feeling elated on the inside. He felt like he had struck gold this time, literally.

The exchange proceeded smoothly. Kael immediately kept the Doubling Monster Core in his item bag. He continued rummaging through items in the marketplace, however all that he bought were monster cores, and he purchased at least a hundred of it before leaving that place.

"Why is Kael buying so many low level monster cores? Can't he just save the money and hunt for them himself, given his prowess?"

"Who knows? One can't use common sense to judge this man's behavior." One of Kael's ardent supporter was convinced Kael was up to something.

Indeed, Kael was up to something. After buying the monster cores, he hurriedly went to the private suite in the tavern and took out all the monster cores from his item bag. He laid all of them down on the bed.

Next, Kael imbued his fingers with spiritual energy and he started drawing a Spirit Array on the ground next to the bed. It was actually a Spirit Convergence Array that could channel energy from the surroundings into one single spot.

Kael was still of the Commoner Rank Lower Phase, thus he could only draw a low ranked Spirit Convergence Array. However, this was sufficient for his current purpose and objective.

Next, he then placed the Doubling Monster Core in the middle of the Spirit Convergence Array. He then placed all the miscellaneous Commoner Rank Lower Phase monster cores in the periphery of the array.

Kael then did some hand seals and muttered an incantation to activate the Spirit Convergence Array. The array produced a low humming sound and it started rotating clockwise. As it was rotating, it was absorbing the energy from the miscellaneous monster cores.

In ten seconds, the monster cores were completely dried up, losing its lustre and becoming empty shells. The energy that was consumed by the Spirit Array then moved towards the Doubling Monster Core.

The Doubling Monster Core seemed to welcome the fresh supply of energy very much. It voraciously ate all of the energy without any reserve. After absorbing the energy through the Spirit Array, there was a brighter white color lustre on the surface of the Doubling Monster Core.

Next, it was time to test Kael's hypothesis. He deactivated the Spirit Array and then retrieved the Doubling Monster Core. Next, he injected spiritual energy into the item, similar to what the peddler had done.

To Kael's delight, another monster core was duplicated and appeared out from the original Doubling Monster Core. It was actually a Commoner Rank Middle Phase monster core! This Doubling Monster Core had just ranked up after absorbing so much spiritual essence from the monster cores and was now able to duplicate a monster core of a higher tier now.

Kael immediately ingested this duplicated monster core to test the effects of it. A pure stream of energy entered into his meridians, nourishing his aurasea every so slightly. He confirmed that it was indeed a Commoner Rank Middle Phase monster core.

This was great news. At higher levels, it would be more difficult to kill demonic beasts. Having a Doubling Monster Core would save the hassle of trying to retrieve monster cores from demonic beasts that were at the same cultivation level as him.
