53 Dispello

It was the Venomancer's turn to have a gloomy expression. "How did you obtain such a high-tier Ice elemental Spirit Art… obviously you aren't from the Myriad Domain, just like me. No wonder you have the confidence to fight me. Heh heh heh… since you are dying to see a Magic Art of a Guardian Rank, I will show you and let you know the true disparity between a Spirit Art and a Magic Art…"

After speaking, the Venomancer muttered an incantation. "... Plague Ward!"

A green hideous plant that had a mouth and no eyes materialized in front of the Venomancer.

"So it is a Plague Ward. Phew, luckily he didn't learn Venomous Gale, if not my Frost Bolt wouldn't be able to deal with it." To Kael, it was obvious that it was just a Level One Magic Art.

Spirit Arts had many different categories and tiers, however there were just too many that it was indistinguishable. However, for Magic Arts, it was clear that there were only three levels, with Level One being the lowest and Level Three the highest.

The Venomancer's Plague Ward was currently a Level One Magic Art. Still, its potency wasn't something a Spirit Art could compare with. That was because Kael could feel that this Plague Ward had the strength of a Herald Rank Lower Phase.

Furthermore, a Venomancer could summon Plague Wards by the dozen, given enough time. Having a dozen Herald Rank Lower Phase monsters attacking at one time was a troublesome issue. Added on to the fact that the Venomancer could mix his own attacks with the Plague Wards' meant that Kael could be in peril.

Without waiting for Kael, the Venomancer once again summoned another Plague Ward in a short span of five seconds. The Venomancer knew that having a numerical advantage was the key to winning, hence he summoned as many Plague Wards as he could.

Kael noticed that the Venomancer was motionless while muttering the incantation to summon the Plague Wards. He then decisively went straight for the Venomancer, instead of dealing with the Plague Wards.

Venomancer is an Agility-based creature. In the Hundred Realms, cultivators had either one of three main attributes; Strength, Agility and Intelligence. Each attribute represented different strengths and weaknesses.

For the Venomancer, being an Agility hero meant that his attack speed was faster and his defenses were stronger, however his lifeforce and vitality were correspondingly lower. That meant that if his defenses were broken, it was easy for the enemy to take his life.

That was also what Kael was banking on.

The two summoned Plague Wards seemed to have noticed Kael going for their owner and they shot mini projectiles of poison towards Kael.

Kael evaded the attacks of the Plague Wards and thrust his sword towards the hydralisk body of the Venomancer.

The Venomancer seemed to have detected the danger in the last moment and he stopped the incantation. Instead, he spat a ball of poison towards Kael as a defensive measure.

Kael was in no position to evade, hence he could only counter the ball of poison with a Frost Bolt. However, that disrupted the momentum he had and the Venomancer retreated with his guard up against Kael.

There was a tinge of confusion in the Venomancer. He couldn't understand why a Commoner Rank Middle Phase cultivator could be so calm in the midst of battle and found a chance to exploit his weakness when he was trying to summon a Plague Ward. It seemed that this cultivator had previous knowledge of battle tactics against a Venomancer.

The sense of belittling his opponent had been completely erased after the previous bouts with Kael. The Venomancer understood that this young man was capable enough to pose a threat to him. Nonetheless, the Venomancer had the two Plague Wards summoned. Coupled with his own vicious attacks, he was confident that he could still kill Kael.

One Guardian Rank Lower Phase and two Herald Rank Lower Phase enemies. Kael felt a slight headache. However, the good thing was that the Plague Wards didn't have a consciousness. They were just raw attacking wards that were stationary. They were thus relatively easier to deal with than a normal Herald Rank Lower Phase opponent.

Kael decided to adopt the strategy of removing the Plague Wards first instead of going for the Venomancer, whose guard against Kael was up at the moment.

"Doppelganger!" Kael's figure blurred and separated into three distinct 'Kaels'. Only one of them was the real him, however the other two acted as diversions.

The three Kaels ran from three different directions towards the Venomancer.

"Trying to trick me? Not so easy!" The Venomancer responded by shooting three different balls of poison towards the three Kaels.

This time around, two of the Kaels didn't try to block the attack. The balls of poison struck them and corroded them. The two figures then disappeared into nothing.

The last Kael, who was the real one, countered the attack with a Frost Bolt. However, this time around, he was fast enough to react.

Without waiting for the Venomancer to realize what was going on, Kael had already approached one of the Plague Wards. He then grabbed the stalk of the plant with his bare hand and he muttered an incantation.

"Dispello!" It was a Spirit Art that was used to dispel summoned objects, including the Plague Wards. Naturally, Kael was able to tap into his memories as the Invoker and used this Spirit Art for this occasion.

The Plague Ward seemed to have met its nemesis. After a brilliant white glow bathed the plant, it then withered and disappeared…

The Venomancer could only stare in shock and bewilderment at the turn of events.

Kael made use of the lack of response from the Venomancer and made a grab for the other Plague Ward two meters away. He then used the Spirit Art Dispello once again to dispel the summoned object.

"What a convenient Spirit Art… fortunately it also works on Magic Arts, maybe because it is just a Level One Magic Art." Kael heaved a sigh of relief. With that, he possessed a counter to the greatest threat of the Venomancer, nullifying his dangerous presence in the battlefield.

By the time the Venomancer could register the shock, his Plague Wards were dispelled already. He could only shriek in anger. "You… I will tear you into pieces!"
