What was family?

I thought most people had an answer to that question. Most probably said that families were those we met when we were born and stayed together until someone parted. Others would say that family was the people you feel comfortable being with. They would be by our side when we did something wrong or were stuck in a slump.

I had the same ideas until my parents passed away and I forgot the meaning of family. Even though I had the sharks, they were not seriously counted as a family. I could die for them, but it was because I wanted to be with my parents in heaven.

One day, they transformed themselves into humans, tangible humans. I asked myself about the definition of that word again.

Family…

…probably meant holding someone’s hand, listening to a confession of love that is free of lies, and being prepared to smile in tears when we woke up at the moment of death.
