8 The One-Sided Conversation

'Levi...'

'... Levi.'

'Levi...'

My eyes opened hearing a soft whisper of my name. I thought my eyes didn't open because it was all darkness that I saw. But when I looked down on my hands, I could see them as if light was shining above me.

I looked up and there was no source of light. I found it weird, thus I tried to call out.

"Hello?" My voice seemed to echo throughout the darkness.

I waited for someone, anyone to respond but no one did.

So I tried to call out again, my voice getting louder, thinking that maybe my voice wasn't high enough for anyone to hear.

"Hello...?" I said a bit higher. Still, no one answered.

I looked around to see if there was any kind of doors or light sources that could lead me to somewhere. But I saw none.

"Hello?!"

I tried again, but still, no one answered. Then I thought about the voice I kept hearing while I was asleep. Suddenly, I heard shuffling noises of feet scurrying on my left.

"Hello?! Is anyone there?" I turned to my left and tried to see if anyone was there. I tried to focus on the sounds,, hoping to hear anything. But I heard none.

I seemed to be rooted on my spot and was unable to leave. Then, out of nowhere, white noise resonated in my ears. Making me gasp and close them shut. The sound was loud and overwhelming till it dragged on for hours. I crouched feeling my ears hurt.

Then a sudden silence invaded the space until I heard the voice again.

'Levi!'

My eyes opened only to close again at the glaring light that hung above me. A headache followed soon after and it pounded on my head like a hammer bashing its way into my skull. I groaned in pain and waited for the sting to seize its torment.

After a few more seconds, the headache stopped and I tried to slowly open my right eye as the other one remained closed. My eye adjusted to the presence of light before I slowly opened my other eye.

I tiredly looked around and now I saw stuff, hospital like stuff on all corners. I then realized that I must be in a hospital room and that I was having a weird dream.

I looked down to see that I was in one of those hospital gowns that patients got to wear when admitted as an ill patient. I then noticed that I was covered in bandages.

'What... happened...?' I thought as I tried to remember what had happened before this.

But a buzzing headache began to resurface making me slump my head back on the stiff pillow that was placed behind me. I could recall only hazy bits and pieces of what happened before this.

I groaned and wanted to hold my head to try to rub my temples to at least ease the pain. However, as I tried to lift my arm, I could not. A numbing sensation travelled through my arm and half of my body.

'What the heck?!'

Just as I was about to try again, I heard people passing by the room that I was occupying. I tried to speak and call out for help, but not even my mouth could move. I couldn't lift my lips so that I could speak.

'What the hell is going on?!'

An hour or so had passed; I was stiff on the bed and was still unable to move my limbs and the muscles within my body. It was beginning to frustrate me. Just as I was losing hope.

I heard a group of people that was approaching my room. I was about ready to groan as loud as I can to catch their attention, but I halted when I heard a familiar voice amongst the group.

Then I heard the doorknob twisting open, just as I'd expect it. I had nowhere to go, so I shut my eyes closed and pretended to still be sleeping.

I relied on my senses alone to keep track on their movements.

I heard the door slowly open and later on shut closed as I heard footsteps enter my room. They all seemed to be murmuring amongst themselves as they made their way near the bed that I was lying on.

"Name: Levi D'emillo... Age: 16 years old... Blood type: O... Hair color: Hazel Brown... Eye colors: Ice Blue... Home: La Decadal Orphanage... Parents: Unknown... Parents' Occupations: Unknown... Anima Level: Z... Vitals: Stable... Anima Type: Unknown," One of them recited lowly. A deep voice seemed to belong to a man.

"Hmm.. Very interesting... Miss Levi, could you elaborate more info about yourself?" I heard miss Pilgrim suddenly speak, making me freeze for a moment.

I remained for a bit more before slowly opening my eyes and looking directlyat Miss Pilgrim. She had two more people with her. Men, to be exact, stood on both her sides and both of them were looking at me. The guy on the left looked around 50-55 years old with gray-ish hair, a white cloak draped over his bloated frame, a stethoscope dangling over his neck and a clipboard clasped in his left hand.

'The doctor, no doubt.'

Then my eyes looked over at the person that stood on Miss Pilgrim's right, he was a bit huge looking so it was somewhat hard to miss him even in the dim lighting. He looked about just as the same age as Mr. Black. He had tanned skin that was shown through his bare arms as he had a leather vest on and a white shirt beneath. He had slick jet-black hair and a tribal tattoo that stretched along his neck to his bare shoulders.

I eyed the three with suspicion. I did clearly not like my situation at the beginning much less now. I had no chance of escaping with my current state of paralysis.

Suddenly, as if knowing my uneasiness. Miss Pilgrim dismisses the two men and waves them away. The two men looked at her in hesitance before leaving the room.

I don't know how or why, but with the two people leaving the room, it felt like a heavy tension had submerged the room in immediate precision as Miss Pilgrim looks down at me from the foot of my bed. It felt like I'll be at war in the next few seconds, I was so sure I'll only be at the receiving end.

'God have mercy...'
