28 The weapons of power

Kan and his two brothers had returned home to their wives. The oasis was somewhere even though they had been gone away for a short while, they missed greatly.

It wasn't just their wives that they had left behind to embark on the journey. The beautiful scenery and fantastic beasts were no doubt a factor.

Their wives had welcomed them home but straight away knew something had changed about the returning three. They felt an unknown presence while being with the brothers.

Martha who was Kan's wife had approached her husband seeking to know what they had truly gone out to do since they hadn't been informed. And oddly, they were told not to come, a first for the time duration they had spent at the oasis.

Kan had sealed them behind the giant castle he claimed he had met on first discovering the oasis. A lot of things that were present in the oasis were kan's doing. But certain things like the giant castle they all lived in had an origin that not even Kan could explain.

Kan took it as a blessing from the gods to them and happily settled in. Martha, who was Kan's wife sought the truth but was never told.

Kan had made a secret pact with his brothers to keep the truth about who they now were from their wives. He was ready to bear being the only one seen as a beast amongst them. He knew they feared him and it hurt that they did but it was a situation he was stuck in and couldn't get out of.

Lilith, Lan's wife was all the more obsessed with figuring out what her husband and his brothers had all gone away to do. She noticed there were differences in how he appeared. Lan who had quite the chubby look was now muscular but his skin had changed to pale white contrary to his vibrant skin colour.

She noticed Lan didn't eat the food she ate gain. And oddly, it seemed like her husband never got hungry. And only stepped out once it was dark to return by dawn.

After a while, she discovered the three brothers stayed close to one another more. They particularly said and did things so no one could hear or see.

This went on for months after their return and being already pregnant along with the other wives, Martha, and Lima who was Tan's wife, they were soon to have their first child for their respective husbands, Lan, Kan and Tan.

After a long wait, the babies were born first by Kan's wife, Martha.

Martha had given birth to a set of twins. A boy and a girl for Kan. This was the first time in the oasis that a new life of any sort was being introduced. All that we're present already existed.

Kan was beyond ecstatic. But in the following months to come, Lilith, Lan's wife and Lima, Tan's wife had given birth to a single child of their own too.

The large castle was slowly being filled with new life. The air had changed as the new innocent lives came. And deep within, Lilith hoped that with the arrival of the newborn, her husband would come back to how he once behaved towards her.

But Lan remained distant and he wasn't the only one. All three brothers stayed away from the children they were once excited to meet. Their wives were beyond confused. They had no idea why this action was taken by their husbands as they were left in the dark.

But the three brothers had a reason to be this way. And it was because their babies weren't like them. Their babies were all born human. Lan had a girl and her scent was that of a human so he did all he could to avoid her. Tan also had a girl child and did the same, he kept away. He had found out humans were also his potential prey whenever he lost himself.

The children were growing quicker than they had expected. And for this singular reason, kan came up with an idea.

Since none of their children possessed their blessings, they had to be a way to protect each one of them. Kan said this because he knew how deadly outside the walls of the castle could be. His presence alone was what kept the beasts in check. So he needed to be prepared.

Kan set out once again alone. He went in search of something to give their children a fighting chance. Kan was in search of a means of survival for their offspring.

While kan was away, Tan had problems of his own. Tan discovered as the full moon grew nearer, he lost control of himself all the more often than before. But having this knowledge, Tan moved out of the castle to abide with the beast. He returned occasionally to set his eyes on his child.

This behaviour remained confusing to Lima, Tan's wife. But knowing very little, she settled within her mind that all that needed to be told would one day be revealed.

Kan after three days of search returned with what he deemed to be the survival of their offspring. Kan returned with insurance that he banked on to keep the lives of their human offspring should there be a need. Kan was well aware that the damage that his presence alone had done to the older ones was immeasurable. Kan knew they didn't have much time. So kan presented all four offspring with the swords of power.

Kan gave his twins the EXCALIBUR and CLARENT. Kan went on to give Lan's daughter the JOYEUSE. And to Tan's child, Kan gave her the DURENDAL.

These were powerful swords that were known to slay gods. Kan had intentionally handed each child this weapon. A chance to fight back because he knew being human, they stood very little chance against beings like him or his brother nor the beasts beyond the castle walls.

But unknown to Kan, he ought to have exercised a little patience. Flowers bloom at the right time and the offsprings of him and his brothers were soon to bloom.
