3 Tutorial

Opening my eyes and taking a look around I find myself in front of a small town with a forest at my backside.

A blue screen pops up in front of me.

"Welcome to the Tutorial! You are one of few chosen to take part in this. Death in the tutorial is permanent."

My eyes hover on the last sentence as a shiver runs through my body before I continue reading.

"The goal of this tutorial is gain as much score as possible. Different tasks award points proportional to the difficulty of the task. You will have to find out the tasks yourself. Try your best to not die!"

Deciding not to dwell on the last sentence I take in my surroundings before doing anything.

Standing in front of me is a decently sized village surrounded by a wall. At the front gate there were two guards in armor with swords on their back and a sign that said " Happy Times Village"

At first glance the village seemed peaceful but there was a strange feeling that nagged at me. Taking a closer look at the guards I noticed their posture. They were facing toward the gate... it was if instead of preventing people from coming in they were keeping them from coming out.

Deciding to do some reconnaissance I walk around the village in search of an opening. On one side of the wall there was a ladder that led to the top of the wall and noone was guarding it.

This only reinforced the bad vibe that the village gave off. Why would they not guard something that is so open and obvious. It was if they didn't care who entered.

Searching and not finding anyone around me I climb up the ladder over the wall and peer into the village. At first glance it seems like a perfectly normal village but something caught my attention as I kept observing. It was the silence... there was this ominous silence that hung in the air. It wasn't as if there was not any noise, it was just way to quiet for a gathering of people.

Everyone was working and minding their own business. The farmers were tending their farm, the blacksmith was working in his smithy, the merchants were selling their wares, it seemed normal.

Another thing that seemed off was the fact there were no kids around. Why would there be no kids running around and playing?

After having a look around I finally decide to try to enter the village. Walking toward the guards I stay alert and ready to run at a moments notice.

Interestingly, the guards did not seem to notice me until I entered a certain range and when I did they tensed up and stared toward me.

"Halt, State your business."

"I mean no harm, it's just that I am lost and don't know where I am."

Taking note of the slight glance they send toward each other I see that they release their tension shortly.

"We were forewarned of the arrival of a lost traveler that would be able to help us during this time of need."

Interesting... It seems that whatever entity that sent me here also gave some leeway in backstory. Putting on a fake worried look I respond to the guard.

"Your time of need? I would love to help you guys, but what exactly do you need help with?"

The guards seem taken aback by my enthusiasm, but that just helps take away the suspicousness of my arrival while also putting me more in their good graces. A win win.

"Well, we need some supplies from outside the village but we can't leave because there is a barrier blocking us."

That explains why they could not see me until I entered a certain radius.

"So am I able to enter the village?"

They look at each other and whisper between themselves before turning back.

"There is a task that you must complete before you are able to enter the village so that we can check if you are trustworthy."

Seemingly reasonable on the surface, their slight glance behind them at the gate betrays them. They were trying to buy time for some reason.

Acting clueless to their plan I accept their condition. They wanted me to go out the barrier and into the forest to find a certain flower. A bright blue flower with 4 petals and shines in the darkness.

Turning around and getting a good look at the forest for the first time it had a sense of wildness that would be present in a jungle.

Walking toward the forest I start to think to myself, this wont be too bad... right?
