21 Escape Artist

Dmitri's POV:

It's been weeks since Silas got here, almost a month. I haven't heard anything about it though... not much at least. He seems to be just sitting down there. I sighed softly and looked towards my egg in my bed, pulling it a little closer. I still haven't told Jason... but maybe I shouldn't till I have some evidence if I'm going to.... He seems so stressed out trying to put all the outposts out.... I bit my bottom lip. "I'd like him to be less stressed," I mumbled and then sighed. I mean... it's not like I'm part of the resistance anymore. Why am I so torn about telling? Silas and I weren't really friends. I just got orders from him now and then. Jason is my mate! I turned over in my bed and then rubbed my cheek before I sighed and got up. I should tell him. When it comes down to allegiances, mine needs to be with Jason because fate put us together. He's not a bad guy... not too bad at least... but if I do this, Silas will probably be killed.... I bit my bottom lip and started for the door, taking in a deep breath. If it comes back that Silas is, however, Jason will be pissed because I should've told him.... I walked out and went for Jason's bedroom when I heard shouting downstairs and then gunfire, making me tense up. I widened my eyes and then ran over to the stairs, going down them quickly to find Silas crouched with a girl, holding a gun in his hand as he fired around the corner at Xzander. He clenched his jaw then looked towards the girl.

"Let's hurry," he said when he managed to get Xzander in the leg. He got to his feet and rushed towards the door with her, running out and started to run for their lives. Oh man.... I froze up and then looked at Xzander who was laying in the floor with his gun then looked towards the door. Crap! Jason won't be pleased at all if I tell him about Silas now that he's gone! I winced and then started for Xzander to help him. Jason stormed in with an angry look.

"What the hell was that?" He asked. Xzander groaned and sat up with my help.

"S-sorry Jason... Silas escaped," he whispered and then started to pull the bullet out of his leg. "He got out of his cell with his fledgling and then armed himself and ran." Jason pulled out his phone then and called someone.

"Go tell Primrose," Jason hissed and leaned into his phone. "Hello, Lyle? Silas escaped with his little fledgling. You should be on guard tonight." I bit my bottom lip and watched as Xzander got the bullet out and got to his feet, going off to find Primrose as he pulled out his phone. Oh man... I really shouldn't say something now.... Oh man... he'd kill me... but if I wait and tell him later... he might be more pissed.... I think I'll wait until he settles down though.... I got to my feet and then walked over towards him slowly. Jason looked towards me before hanging up and going for the door. I started to follow him and rubbed my arm.

"Want me to come help you look?" I asked softly. "He's running with a fledgling. He's going to be slowed down by her. And... I need to talk to you soon too, okay...."

"Fine, come with me." He started off after the scent train Silas left behind. I bit my bottom lip and followed after him then caught up and walked close to him.

"What I wanted to talk to you about was... umm... I thought it would be best if I told you who the leader was to the resistance since you're so stressed out, and I was just going to tell you when I finally decided to rat him out, but Silas was escaping just as I went for your room.... I don't know if you'd like me to wait and tell you or if you'd rather me tell you now as we're searching for Silas," I whispered to him.

"What're you talking about?" He asked me and looked towards me and frowned.

"I decided to rat the leader of the resistance out," I simplified for him and bit my bottom lip.

"What?" He asked in confusion. I frowned at him.

"You wanted to ask me questions before we knew we were mates, and I know who the leader is. I've met him," I told him. "You're so stressed out trying to hit up bases and whatnot, I thought I would be a good mate and tell you who runs it all... who the resistance looks to for instructions."

"Dmitri," he hissed. I frowned slightly and looked up at him.

"What?" I asked. Why is he mad? I thought he would want to know....

"Why're you speaking to me in riddles right now?" I frowned at him.

"I'm not... I'm just trying to tell you that I'm going to tell you who it is. It's Silas Rosario," I whispered. "He's the one running it all... and I was nervous to tell you earlier, but when I went to tell you today, he escaped."

"You tell me after he gets free?" Jason hissed and looked annoyed. I frowned at him.

"I was going to tell you today but then he ran away! It's not my fault he escaped today! I wasn't sure about telling you earlier because I didn't want to be a traitor, but then I realized that I should tell you anyways because you're my mate! I'm at least out here trying to help you find him before he gets away for good," I told him then started to walk after Silas's scent, smelling it out myself since how Jason wanted to be grumpy. "I thought about not telling you today after I saw he escaped, but I thought I should anyways because I didn't want you to be mad at me down the road when you would've found out on your own. If you don't believe me, there are papers hidden in my apartment and in my office back at my ruined outpost that are signed by Silas. You can go look for yourself."

"I'm not saying I don't believe you. I'm pissed at Silas right now so back off." I glanced back at him then nodded.

"Okay," I whispered. "Let's just find him.... It'll be better once we have him back under lock and key. A guy like him has resources." Jason got quiet and focused on finding Silas then.

After searching for hours, we eventually came to a street where the scent ended, probably having been picked up by a car. I frowned as I came to a stop and glanced the street over and bit my bottom lip. Crap, he got away.... I glanced towards Jason and then looked at the street before I sighed. Silas is on the run. He'll be worried about that and might make mistakes somewhere.... Jason frowned and started back home in silence. I bit my bottom lip and then started to follow him, rubbing my arm. "We'll catch him," I whispered to him. "He will probably go to someone he trusts...."

"That's easy for you to say but at least now I know who he is." Jason growled and started to walk away from me, leaving me a few footsteps behind. I frowned slightly and stopped walking, looking him over. He's mad... really mad.... I bit my bottom lip then rubbed my neck. I really can't help the fact that Silas escaped like that.... I know I could've said something sooner, but I mean... I didn't want to be a traitor.... I only told him because he's my mate.... I sighed and then slowly started to follow him, leaving a gap between us. Maybe I should just stay away from him for a little while... let him calm down and get his thoughts together and get a plan to get him back. I can't really do much right now unless I was to leave and look for Silas on my own... with my rules... and my knowledge. I have that egg though to take care of... and I don't want Jason to be mad at me for leaving either.... I don't know.... I can't really do much except tell him everything I know, but he has to be willing to listen to me first and not quite so angry looking. I stayed quiet as we walked back to the house and then went inside, watching his every move. He walked off towards his study and shut himself inside. I bit my bottom lip and then groaned in frustration. Great.... I stalked off then and went back to my bedroom, going inside and shutting the door before I locked it and walked over to my egg.

"Hey eggy," I whispered and tried to smile as I sat down next to it on the bed. "He's a little mad," I mumbled and then pulled the egg into my lap. "At least I've still got you~" I felt the weight shifting around inside again. I smiled happily and then laughed. "Cutie," I purred and then kissed the egg as I laid down with it and then pulled the blanket around us as I nestled it up against my chest. "I can't wait for you to hatch, so I can play with you." I felt it starting to scratch against the shell. I smiled softly and nuzzled it with my cheek before I sighed and laid my head back, deciding not to scold it this time. It'd be fine.... I glanced around the room and then looked towards my bathroom before I closed my eyes, deciding to take a nap with my egg. Hopefully Jason will be okay....

Silas's POV:

I looked towards Stormy as I had her feeding off the driver of the car we just stole from the streets and smirked. "And that is how you escape," I purred to her then punched in the radio, turning it up as I heard I'm on the Highway to Hell come on. She pulled back from the driver and licked her lips then leaned over and kissed my cheek. I smirked at her and then kissed her on the lips. "Was he enough?" I asked her curiously. "I could stop us later and let you find someone else.... We aren't going back to the castle just yet after all.... We need to wait it out. The Nero family will be looking there for us. We're going to France to hide out for a few months before we start planning our revenge."

"Why don't you strike now while the iron is hot?" She asked and frowned. "They'll suspect us to run off and not ambush them right now." I frowned slightly.

"Well... I was actually planning on something else for us... something to give us more power... but if you don't want it," I whispered to her then smirked at her. Yes, I had an idea. I was going to let my fledgling blood binge with me. We're going to kill Lyle with the extra power and then take out the council afterwards.

"Whatever you think is best," she purred. I smirked at her.

"Let's blood binge together then," I told her then laughed. "We'll become demons for the extra power and overthrow Lyle and the council all in one go when we get back." Great, we can achieve this plan instead of running over there and trying to kill Lyle then have to kill the Nero family when they bust down the doors right after we finish Lyle.... We can be more organized this way....

"Demons?" She asked me. "I'm not sure that's a good idea." I frowned a little then.

"Why not?" I asked her as I glanced her way. "We'd get a lot of power from it... and when it's all over, we can be cleansed."

"Cleansed? Have you not watched demon movies?!" She shook her head quickly. "No thanks. You can do it though." I sighed and then tapped my fingers on the steering wheel. She won't do it... not for the power.... I glanced her over and then groaned.

"Do you really think we'd have a shot at killing Lyle and getting away with it if we went right now?" I asked her calmly. If she does... then I guess I could kill him now... get it over with.... It'd be a rapid revolution.

"Don't you have faith in yourself?" She asked softly. I sighed.

"I do... I just don't want to take a chance of you getting hurt," I told her and then changed directions, heading for the castle. "We're killing Milo too... but I'll let you pick how we kill him."

"Poison... drowning.... bashing over the head.... Hmmm.... I can't decide which one is my favorite." She purred.

"You'll know when the time has come," I purred to her and smirked. Guess I'm getting the throne today....

Milo's POV:

I purred softly as I sat on the couch, reading a book in Lyle's study. I laid down then and closed it as I finished it finally. "So~ I finished my book. Are you almost done with work?" I asked and then looked his way as I rolled over onto my stomach with a sweet smile. He looked up from his desk and sighed before snapping his head towards the door as Sylar came in.

"Jason called your phone and gave you a message that Silas escaped," Sylar told him quickly, tossing Lyle's phone to him. I widened my eyes and then sat up. Silas?

"Silas escaped?" I asked worriedly and then got to my feet, walking over to Lyle's side quickly. That can't be good. He was so angry looking when they took him.... Lyle got to his feet after catching his phone and put it in his pocket.

"I caught a maid on her way here looking frantic," Sylar explained. "I think we better prepare incase he pays us a visit. I'm going to go tell Everest and Neal." I bit my bottom lip as I looked towards him and then at Lyle.

"Do you think he would come here?" I asked him worriedly and then grabbed his hand. What if he does? Would he hurt us? He threw me into a wall last time.... Sylar ran off then, being quick about it. Lyle looked towards me and nodded.

"I think I need to teach you a few moves while we've got time and teach you how to use a gun," he dragged me towards the door then. I yelped and followed after him, my heart starting to race. Oh my lord, he's serious! Silas might come here and try to hurt us! "Silas is a hot tempered guy, you know this. He's pissed because of what I done to him."

"I-I know," I whispered. "He got into a fight with you befo-"

"Silas escaped?" I heard Everest say from beside us as he appeared. "That's not good. Do you need me to do anything for you just in case? It'd probably be smart to arm everyone."

"Yes, get everyone armed. I want us to stay together in groups." Lyle told him. Everest nodded and then disappeared quickly. I bit my bottom lip as Lyle pulled me along and did my best to keep up with him, looking around the halls worriedly. How long ago did Silas escape? What if he's outside the castle right now?!

"Lyle, I'm scared," I whispered, my body starting to shake as I remembered Silas from the last time I saw him when he was angry. He looked like he could kill us all... and he kicked me into a wall like I was nothing last time.... Lyle pulled me into a weapons room and started to load me with knives and a gun then done the same for himself. He hid a knife in my shoe then and kissed my cheek.

"Don't be scared. Be brave for me," Lyle whispered. "I love you and will protect you." I whimpered then nodded.

"O-okay," I whispered and then hugged him quickly, burying my face into his chest. "I'll try.... He wouldn't try to kill you, right?" I asked him worriedly as I tried to calm down.

"He would," Lyle muttered. "I'm no longer apart of his family in his eyes. I'm an outsider and the sooner I'm gone the better things will be to him. He doesn't understand that our parents never wanted him on the throne and that's why they kept my adoption a secret..." He mumbled. I bit my bottom lip then looked up towards him. Lyle.... I quickly kissed him and wrapped my arms around his neck then buried my face into his neck.

"He's not going to kill you. I won't let him," I promised him. "I love you...." My poor maker.... All he wanted was to have a happy family.... He didn't ask for this. The throne belongs to him too.... He wrapped his arms around me and rocked me in his arms then tugged me out of the room and towards the night room. I followed him and did my best to look brave as I glanced around the halls then looked towards Lyle. "What if he doesn't show up tonight?" I asked him.

"We'll go to sleep and expect him every night until we see him again." Lyle whispered. That's going to be a horrible way to live... living in fear. I nodded and then got closer to him, squeezing his hand.

"O-okay...." I whimpered a little but stopped myself and held onto him as we walked into the night room together. He sat down on the couch and pulled me into his lap, rocking me. I curled up into his lap quickly and leaned my face into him, gripping his shirt. "I love you Lyle," I mumbled to him again, clinging to him. What if this is the last time we will be able to hold onto each other like this? I mean... we'll probably survive a fight though... but there's still that chance.... No, I'm going to protect him. I have to. I kissed his chest and then hid against him, taking comfort in his scent and warmth. He leaned his head against me and started to hum a lullaby softly to me. I relaxed a little and then purred softly as I closed my eyes, my heart starting to calm down as I listened to him. I nuzzled my head against him then smiled. Lyle....

"I love you," he whispered to me.

"I love you too," I told him and then opened my eyes, looking up at him. "I love you so much...." I leaned in and kissed him then leaned my forehead against his. We'll live.... Silas can't kill us. We're in a castle and it's just him and Stormy against us.... He rubbed my back to comfort me. I relaxed and then kissed his cheek gently. "We'll be fine," I mumbled to him comfortingly and then sighed softly.

"Are you sure about that?" I heard a familiar voice by the door, sending a chill down my spine as my heart raced. Lyle placed me to the side and got up, pulling out his gun quickly. "You look happy to see me, brother," Silas purred and then walked in with a smug smirk on his face. I widened my eyes as I saw him then quickly got to my feet. He really did come here.... I started to tremble as he looked us over then looked at the gun in Lyle's hands. "Put it down and let's talk. I didn't escape and steal a car to be shot."

"What do you want to talk about?" Lyle asked softly. Stormy slipped into the room and locked hands with Silas.

"Why you locked me away," Silas purred and then walked up slowly, gently starting to put Lyle's gun down for him with an innocent look. "I've come to apologize for everything...." Lyle slowly put the gun away and looked Silas over.

"It's only because you never were with me. You were against me. I wanted to give you a chance to realize family doesn't break against each other. You needed to be sent away to see that. Did you?" Silas nodded and then let Stormy go, taking Lyle's gun.

"I did," he said softly and then hugged Lyle. I tensed up and bit my bottom lip as I looked at Silas in fear. Someone doesn't change that fast. Murderess rage doesn't go away like that.... I glanced towards Stormy worriedly and then back at Silas. Lyle's tension died and he hugged Silas quickly, burying his face into his neck.

"Silas," Lyle whispered softly. I bit my bottom lip nervously and then hugged myself as I watched them, seeing Silas moving a little closer to him before he dropped the gun and purred. I relaxed a little after a few seconds and then tensed up as I saw his fangs sharpen suddenly and saw him going for Lyle's neck.

"Lyle!" I screamed, rushing towards them just as Silas sunk his fangs into my maker's neck. Lyle let out a scream of pain and tried to pull away from Silas.

"Silas no," Lyle begged. I tackled Silas off him quickly, earning a snarl from him as he managed to tear out a chunk of Lyle's skin as he fell to the floor. I started for a knife on me, but he quickly flipped us and had me pinned under him, snarling at me.

"You interfered for the last time," he hissed at me and then stood up, throwing me towards Stormy. I yelped as I hit the floor at the base of her feet then widened my eyes as he started for Lyle again with a murderess look. Lyle reached for one of his knives on him and started for Silas to defend himself. Stormy stomped down on my head and giggled.

"Finally I get to eat you," she purred and reached down, pulling me to my feet and bit down into my neck viciously. I shrieked as she bit me and then started to struggle, letting out a whimper as I dug around for a knife then found one. I quickly stabbed her in the chest with it in a panic and then pushed it in to the hilt as my heart raced. She backed away from me then, starting to cough up blood and fell over. I widened my eyes as I saw her and then put a hand over my wound before I turned to see Silas and Lyle fighting each other. He suddenly pinned Lyle to the wall and was about to bite him, but I was over there in seconds, throwing him off Lyle and went after him quickly with a small hiss. He's not hurting Lyle.... Not again. I growled at him and then started for him as he groaned and started to sit up, having hit his head when he fell.

"You're not touching Lyle," I hissed at him then exposed my fangs at him. He glanced my way then narrowed his eyes in rage, seeing me coming for him. He got to his feet quickly and then ran for me, knocking me over onto the floor. I yelped as he pinned me and then struggled under him before I quickly bit him in his neck to defend myself, tearing out a chunk of his flesh to startle him then brought my knee up between his legs hard. He groaned and fell against me weakly, gripping himself as he tried to stay up. I hissed at him and then brought my feet against him, kicking him back then went for him. He glared me down and then got up, grabbing me by my neck before I could reach him and slung me through a nearby wall, making me shriek as I landed outside in the grass, broken pieces of rubble laying around me with a few shards of glass from the window. He climbed over the hole in the wall, his eyes flashing red monstrously as he snarled at me with his fangs exposed. I widened my eyes and started to crawl back weakly, my whole body aching. I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my ribs, something wet starting to soak my shirt. I panicked and looked down at my shirt, seeing a red rose blossoming from an almost black spot on my shirt that was saturated with my blood. Oh my go- He stomped down on my leg, making me shriek as I heard the bone crack under his boot. I arched my back and reached down as pain lanced through me. He's going to kill me.... I whimpered and went to curl up as he got off my leg but earned a kick in my stomach, coughing up blood onto the damp grass. He smirked and then leaned down, looking at me.

"Look at you... you're so pitiful. It's almost beneath me to kill you.... You're so weak, but that's what you get for picking Lyle as your maker. You doomed yourself by taking the wrong side," he purred to me. "I'll put you out of your misery though, and then I'll kill Lyle when I finish with you... but his death won't be near as nice as yours. His will be..." he smirked and trailed a hand down to my broken ribs then started to press down on them, making me scream as the sharp bone pressed into my lungs, "messy... and way... way more painful than this. He'll be begging to meet the sun by the time I'm through," he told me and then got up and kicked me again, making me yelp as I struggled to breath, finding it hard as my ribs pressed painfully against me. I looked up at him weakly and managed to growl at him. I can't let him kill Lyle.... I can't let him get away from me.... I narrowed my eyes a little and then snatched his ankle, ripping it out from under him as I started to feel a new strength in me. I crawled over him and then punched his nose, breaking it before I grabbed his neck. He yelped and then touched his nose before he glared me down and started to sit up to get me, his fangs gleaming white in the moonlight. I snarled at him and squeezed his neck, shoving him back into the dirt before I felt my nails sharpening against his skin. I instinctively scrapped my nails against him as they ached and then ripped his throat out, watching as his eyes went wide with pain and surprise. I looked at the blood pouring out of his neck and gasped a little, my fangs hurting as I started to lean in and I started to drink from him a little before I pulled away in disgust. He tastes terrible.... I hissed and then leaned over him.

"Silas, you would've never won," I told him and then trailed my hand down to his chest, scrapping my sharp, long nails against him. "I would do anything for Lyle," I hissed and then plunged my hand into his chest over the beat in his skin before I felt something hard brush against me, beating fast in a panic. I growled and then ripped it out, looking towards a small black crystal with red tinges on the ends, dark and corrupt looking. I crushed it in my hand then widened my eyes as I watched the dust falling from my hands. I killed someone.... I looked down at Silas as his eyes went lifeless and his body limp before it disintegrated under me, turning into a pile of ash and blood. I shrieked and jumped up as he got on me then screamed in pain as my leg couldn't support me and I fell over onto the ground, groaning in pain. No... I whimpered and curled up as all the pain came rushing back to me, my head pounding as my vision started to blur and the edges began to darken as I weakly looked towards the castle, starting to cry in pain as I began to lose consciousness, my body refusing to keep me awake long enough for me to call out for Lyle.
