8 The Nun in the Stables

Walking to the stables by the church William notices his trusty steed. He prepares packing his equipment on the horse. "Father Mathew is counting on me and I must not fail him. Any that stands in my way will be slain. My righteousness will slay all evildoers!"

"PFFFFFFHAHAHAHAHA!"

"What was that!? Did my horse just laugh at me? Does it not know who I am?" But then he notices a woman is standing on the opposite side of his mount.

The woman laughter cracks out from behind his horse again. "You can't be serious! You didn't… you didn't just say that!"

She doesn't stop laughing when he meets her on the other side.

"A nun? What is a nun doing by the stables? She should be doing whatever nuns do," he thinks to himself.

Clearing his throat approaching her. "Excuse me, are you lost, Sister? A nun outdoors in the city like this. you poor lady must have lost her way. As a Paladin, it's my responsibility to help you."

"Is this your horse?" The nun says.

"Yes, what of it?"

"Then you must be William Fraust. Father Curtis told me to meet you here on your boun... Assignment. I'm Sister Theresa Ambrose but call me Theresa. A pleasure to meet you… William."

"Sister Theresa Ambrose never heard of a nun by that name here before," William thinks.

"So Father Curtis has a message for me before my journey. Very well, speak. What does he have to say that he couldn't say in person?" Leaning forward he lowers his voice and cups his mouth whispering to the nun. "Does he have a top-secret quest only I can fulfill?"

Straightening back up hoping quicky so that no one saw him. "I am the top Paladin in Haven after all. My sword is deserving at least a thousand men, no two thousand and my skills have no bounds!"

"Easy there," She says, her voice goes up as if she was feeling guilty but he's not sure why. "I was hired to go with you on your journey," She says.

"Hired?"

"I meant assigned, of course. I've been assigned to go with you, sir."

"What would I need of a nun?" He questions.

"What is Father Curtis thinking this journey is going to be dangerous and I must also protect this useless nun? Even I the great William will struggle with a trivial matter like this," He says under his breath.

"Sorry but no this will be too dangerous for the likes of you. I am a Paladin of the church and have years of preparation. What do you have Sister?" He says pushing her aside while tending to his saddle.

"I must think of your wellbeing and outside those gates, there's nothing but petty thieves and murders. Not to mention the wild animals as well and if those don't kill you the monsters will. You can go ahead and tell Father Curtis that I must do this alone."

"Ok, yeah... sure, you bet," She replies.

He mounts on top of his horse. "I'm sure the Father has a more suitable task for you, Sister."

"There's nothing more remarkable than a father love for their children, remember that," She only smiles and bows her head. "Well then, Sir Fraust please have a safe trip, may the blessings of Mera protect."
