6 Chapter 6 Planning Our New Home

The sun finally leaked out as the boys slept in two different seats close to the front of the bus. Knowing the pain was about to come when we show up at the school. Jade was sitting there all night waiting for us to return, but with no sight of damage. Zombies roam the area with no thought. Plundering homes, killing people, and eating anything that has flesh or meat on its bones. Lucky that some animals stayed away from them by running away or hiding from them.

I parked at the bus parking lot in front of the gym and looked likes the windows were covered and that no one broke inside. Jade most had made sure to get it done before nightfall but would be pissed at us. So when the doors open and her face spoke evil words without speaking. Upset but glad to see us alive on the bus with everything they needed. Waking the boys was easy, but the stuff inside was going to be difficult. Do we have room to keep it or do we need to place it somewhere else?

"Where the hell were you guys at! "Jade screamed.

"We...well..." I tried to speak.

"We broke down," Ace smiled and pushed me towards the building, escaping her wrath. I would say that he saved me, but I know Jade was going to kill me later. When we got in and seen that the main gym had mats placed to sleep and trash cans were full. They must have waited for hours to come back, but right now we had to plan our next step. How are we going to protect our new home or find routes for supplies?

Then I realized that we need a map of the town and to make sure we had fuel nearby or even food. The Town Hall should have maps of the town, but that was about ten minutes away by walking.

"Hey, James!" I called out.

"Yeah?" he questioned.

"Do you think we could get a map in the town hall?" I asked with a smile.

"I'll get Colt to come with me," he replied and went back to working on a bat. He was putting nails inside for a deadly swing to the head. I wonder if Colt had a similar weapon or something else that fits with his personality.

I walked towards the band room and seemed it would be a perfect storage place. There was a back door near the bus parking lot and a porch to load things on and off. We could fortify the area around us so we don't have to worry about zombies getting in. A fence was the best thing to do, but where are we going to get the supplies to do that. Great Value was the only store with fencing supplies and tools. We could also make the bus armored and have more weapons at home.

Pretty sure Ace and James would enjoy ripping something apart later. Maybe Ethan would like to join them as well. Knowing Ben would like to figure out where we put our medical supplies if someone were to get hurt. I was thinking of the choir room with some mats on the floor if someone got sick. The nurse's office was up the hill and was away from our main area, and have most of what he needed. Food would be in the concession stand and the bathrooms and locker rooms are for personal business. That seemed to be all we could do for now, but remove the unwanted items inside the playground or rip them apart for materials.

"You should tell me what your thinking," Jade spoke behind me.

"Just planning on where we should place the storage, medical area, and food." I smiled.

"Pretty sure we are thinking the same thing," she replied.

We were always called twins when it came to talking to one another, but ages apart from one another. We would agree on some things but disagree on others. She thought we should at least get the medical supplies and unload the truck today. Knowing that making this place our home was going to take weeks of none stop work.

Agreeing that we should at least get the fence marked and ready. But I didn't know anyone good at making or marking a fence. Martin was more into technology and Hayhay was too busy with Marry.

"Does anyone know to work with fences?" I asked.

"I do Nerd," Ethan spoke out.

"Can you please make markers of where you want it to be?" I asked and he sighed. Leaving the room and grabbing something we didn't see. He was tired of being around us, but what was he going to mark the ground with was unknown. So Martin, Jade, Ace, and I went to unload the bus and placed it in the band room. The food went to the Concession Stand and clothes, weapons, and other things stayed in the room. Ben was up at the nurse's office to bring what was important to cover cuts and wounds.

It started to feel like we were safe, but we still had to save Hanna. She lives in West Plains and it was a better place for supplies in the future. A base there would be safer than Willow, but that would take weeks of planning for a move. Right now we had to make the gym safe, so we can continue the human race's survival. Ethan was making the territory and we were moving stuff around, but we were like a big family. A family that gains after losing a lot.
