9 Chapter 9

The weather today was a bit cloudy and the temperature was just right for a walk. Something I had to do to get to the library. Though Lorelei didn't let me leave the house without taking an umbrella tool with me.

Passing quite a few stores on the way to the library, I inspected some of their products on display.

"Terran society has certain unwritten rules that people follow. Being socially dead won't help my goals so I have to get a few more sets of clothes. I can't keep wearing the same ones that I wore since arriving here even if they are cleaned daily."

The clothes I found myself in are a pair of slim jeans and one black t-shirt with white sleeves.

"That brings me to the first rule of the human world. You can't do anything without currency."

Voranis: At least the library is free if you read the books in the premises.

I finally arrived at the library and just in time before it started raining.

I entered with confident steps and my eyes widened at the enormity of the space. Books as far as the eye can see and the atmosphere was solemn and quiet.

There were different sections of books for an easier navigation along with a terminal that one could search the location of any book in here.

There were also tables and chairs that one could use to read books and take notes.

I picked up a book about human anatomy so i could get a better grip of my body, one about physics to see the average educational level of this planet and one book about sociolo-

Voranis: Oh! I beg your pardon.

As I was about to reach the sociology book, another smaller hand also reached out and our fingers touched.

?: I'm sorry, if you need this book I can wait.

"A familiar voice?"

Voranis: Oh no, it's ok, I already have two books I want to read.

The voice belonged to a young woman with blond hair. She wore glasses that framed her face nicely and was aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

"And familiar looks."

?: Thank you!

Voranis: No prob- Ah! You're Supergirl, aren't you?

I asked with a hushed tone to which she jolted a bit.

"Well that's a definite yes."

She turned and looked at my dichromatic eyes and her look showed that she realized something.

Supergirl: The guy from the park!

She grabbed my hand and pulled me to a corner of the library. She was surprisingly strong.

Supergirl: How did you know it was me?

She asked worriedly and with a touch of fear while still holding my hand and squeezing it a little.

I didn't understand why she was acting like that.

Voranis: What do you mean? You're just wearing a pair of glasses. Not to mention the anatomy and symmetry of your face is quite unique and memorable.

She looked puzzled.

Supergirl: These glasses are supposed to subtly disrupt the- Wait! Was that a compliment about my face? Are you hitting on me?

My eyes widened a bit.

Voranis: What? I didn't even touch you!

Then I turned to look where she was holding my hand.

Voranis: Well...besides that.

I smiled sheepishly while she stared at me for a second before she tried to stifle her laughter. After chuckling for a bit longer she spoke again.

Supergirl: Now I understand why you wanted that sociology book, but that doesn't have exactly what you need.

Voranis: Oh? Do you have a recommendation?

She grinned and narrowed her eyes.

Supergirl: Do you have Netflix?

Voranis: What's that?

I really wanted to laugh at how her face changed but I had a feeling that the joke's on me.

Supergirl: Wow! Someone is alive in this day and age and doesn't know what Netflix is?

I sighed and we walked to the furthest table where she had left her notebook and two books and gave her my usual story.

"Lying still feels bad..."

Supergirl: I'm sorry, I didn't know.

She gave me a look I didn't understand.

Voranis: It's ok, I'll get through this.

Supergirl: So, what books did you get?

I put the two books on the table and she frowned slightly.

Supergirl: I don't think these are the books you want to start with.

Voranis: Well...the anatomy book is more of an interest and the physics is an experiment.

She crossed her arms and closed her eyes for a few seconds as she thought. She nodded after making a decision and then looked at me.

Supergirl: Tell you what, I come here every Monday and Thursday at around this hour. If you want I can help you with getting used to things since I know how hard that can be from personal experience.

I wanted to ask about that personal experience but that would be rude and I barely knew her.

Voranis: That would be wonderful!

Supergirl: Great! Now, do you want to go for a coffee or something?

I grew excited at the thought of a smoothie but I called down the next second.

"I don't have any money and I would feel bad if she payed."

Voranis: I- I'm not really thirsty, maybe another time...

Supergirl: You know you're a terrible lier, right? Come on, it's my treat!

She dragged me by my hand after collecting her stuff and I put the books back in their place. At least I got her to promise me that she's allow me to treat her to coffee after I get a job.

"The things I do for a smoothie..."

We exited the library but were forced to stop.

Supergirl: Oh...I forgot about the rain.

Voranis: I have an umbrella if you'd like to share.

She gave me look and sighed.

Supergirl: I know you don't know it, but men don't usually share umbrellas with women unless they are very close.

The lecture began and I had to admit it was nice to walk besides someone under the big umbrella.

She talked about something called 'pop culture' and gave me a list of series and movies I should watch first chance I got.

Entertainment in Aiur was not something that was developed that much. The only thing remotely close to movies were recordings that were made inside Ihan Crystals, though those we just memories and experiences used in education and martial arts.

We parted ways sometime after we finished our drinks and the rain stopped and I returned to Lorelei.

I was away for so long and she might needed my help with anything.

"I should at least do that in return for the housing and food."
