15 Chapter 15

I kept running and running all over the city. I even cloaked at some point since I didn't know if the one who was trying to find me had other means of detection.

While invisible, I wore my armor because it could isolate my energy, making me hard to detect if my powers were not used too much.

Without realizing how much time had passed, I stopped at an alley, deactivated my armor and dropped on the ground wheezing.

"With that much running and not to mention my invisibility, there's no way anyone could follow. I'm certain that I've lost them. I couldn't go back to Lorelei if they had me under surveillance or something but thankfully, I can't feel anything like that."

It was getting late and I realized that I didn't know what part of the city I was in.

"I should definitely not try that again without having some means of hiding or protecting myself. Maybe if I join a team or something"

I managed to catch my breath just in time to sigh.

"For now though, I had to find my way home."

The best way to do that was to use the building rooftops. I found some metallic stairs that lead to the roof of the building and made my way to the top.

I didn't want to be identified while jumping from rooftop to rooftop so I resummoned my armor and begun making my way towards a tall building that had a spherical thing on top.

"Daily Planet? What kind of building is that?"

I didn't expect it, but the feeling of jumping from one building to the next and sometimes leaping across a whole street was strangely exhilarating.

I could see a lot from up here and realized that I should have done this much sooner.

I was making my way towards Daily Planet when I finally got to a familiar neighborhood.

"I know this place!"

It was a place close to Lorelei's house. I stood there for a bit surveying my surroundings just to make sure I wasn't followed.

"Not having someone to rely on makes me feel... vulnerable and small... Though I am a 'stranger in a strange place' as they say."

Not finding anything out of place, I dragged my tired body back to bed after greeting Lorelei.

Next day I almost made a few mistakes at work because my mind was occupied with what happened. The one who was looking for me might be someone bad or even a hero, but without having the means to find out, it's better to err on the side of caution.

Not having anyone to talk to about this has definitely dampened my spirit a bit.

"I could still talk to Supergirl and she'll most likely help me, but I don't think now's the best time to tell her my identity. Not to mention I don't want to burden her with my problems."

After leaving work, my destination was the library. I didn't know if Supergirl would come since the library was closed off and under repairs but I didn't have a method contact her and I wanted to see her.

I stood in front of the building that was surrounded in scaffolds hoping that the girl of steel will come.

Thankfully, I didn't even have to wait for 30 minutes before I saw her walking towards me.

Supergirl: Hey Voranis! I didn't think you would be here today.

Voranis: Greetings! You know, I'd still be here even if the building was destroyed, so you're not getting rid of me that easily!

I paused.

Voranis: Unless you actually want to.

She put her right hand on her chin, thought for a bit and then smiled.

Supergirl: No, I think I'll keep you a little while longer.

She giggled and I couldn't help but smile at her.

Voranis: So, do you have any plans?

Supergirl: Since the library is closed, how about we go for coffee and then catch a new movie?

Voranis: We...uh...have to catch the movie before we can watch it?

Supergirl: It's a figure of speech dummy! So, do you want to go for it? Or we can do something else that you prefer?

Voranis: Nope! That sounds great, let's go!

Our first destination was my favorite place, the 'Black Cat'. It has the best smoothies.

Supergirl: How's everything at work? Are you doing ok?

She asked after taking a sip from her 'coffeeccino' drink.

Voranis: It's great!

I answered, being more than happy to talk about it.

Voranis: I also get bonuses since I do quick and efficient work. I'm pretty strong so that helps.

I said proudly.

Supergirl: Oh? How about we armwrestle since you're so confident?

She grinned cutely.

Voranis: You're on, miss SUPERgirl!

We held our drinks with our left hand and got into position.

Voranis&Supergirl: 3, 2, 1, Go!

I put strength to my arm but nowhere near my full power since I didn't want to reveal myself.

We were at the starting point for sometime while watching each other, when I thought I saw her lips curl for a second when suddenly...

I began gaining ground! A couple of centimeters and then a few more until her hand stopped just before it touched the table.

Her mischievous smile couldn't be hidden as her hand was less than an inch from the table, but it may as well be meters away.

Voranis: Oh, is this how it is?

Not wanting to admit that she's stronger than me, even if I had used my full power, I came up with a plan.

Supergirl: I don't know what you're talking about!

Voranis: Oh really?

I looked behind her.

Voranis: Then...can Superman give me a hand?

Supergirl: What?

She was surprised at my statement and turned her gaze to where I was looking. I immediately reacted and pushed my hand down while she was distracted.

Her hand touched the table and victory was mine. Realizing what happened, she looked at me and pouted but not for long.

Supergirl: Since you beat poor little me, you should let me choose the movie we're going to watch.

I didn't know how to respond. The way she looked at me and spoke, left me speechless and I would agree to whatever she said. It was a very strange feeling.

Voranis: I...ok.

She flashed a smile at my words.

"I have a feeling that even though I won the battle, the war had already been lost."
