14 Chapter 14

[3rd Person]

Sunday morning.

A man was inside a huge cave, sitting in front of a computer with a ridiculously large screen, along with other simple and complicated devices.

He was wearing an expensive looking turtleneck with black trousers but strangely, he didn't look out of place.

A frown was stuck on his face as he murmured something.

A tall blackhaired woman silently walked behind his armchair and put her arms around his neck while resting her chin on his head.

?: You're at it again so early in the morning Bruce?

Bruce: It's been bothering me Diana. This guy just appeared out of nowhere without prior hints or something. I can't find anything since he's careful. He just appears and disappears with his invisibility.

Diana: So? New heroes appear every now and then, it's nothing we haven't seen before.

Bruce: That is true, but there was always a trace, some kind of hint that leads to their identity. This guy's armor looks advanced. He kept getting hit with ordinance from Toyman's robots and there was no scratch on that thing. It takes serious R&D and lot of money to create something like that and it's not so easy to hide such a project.

Plus, he can shoot lightning and become invisible. Though there is the possibility that those abilities originate from his armor.

Diana went around and sat on the console in front of the man.

Diana: So what do you think? If he just appeared without anything prior then he might be an alien. Perhaps from different dimension or even the future like Booster Gold?

Bruce: Every single one of those is a viable hypothesis. Superman even tried to see through the armor but without success. I don't know if it's connected, but J'onn detected a strong psionic signature a few days before this guy's appearance. Perhaps someone is helping him.

Diana: Well if you can't find anything for now, then there's no reason you should be here. You left so early you mad me feel lonely. Come on, let's go eat breakfast.

The man wanted to grumble but stopped himself when he saw the mischievous grin on the woman's face.

...

At Seraph's Horn, Voranis had just gotten outside the volunteer center for a small break.

[1st Person]

I was outside the center enjoying the breeze while looking at the the clouds. Just as I was about to to turn and go back inside again, I noticed a figure in red and blue was flying.

"That lithe form can't belong to Superman so there's only one option left and judging from her trajectory, she's coming from outside the city. I wonder if something's wrong."

As she disappeared above the building, I went inside to resume my duties.

...

All three of us were walking back home while talking.

Voranis: So Cynthia, do you have any plans for today? If not, maybe we could go for another walk.

Cynthia: I would really love to Voranis, but a friend of mine will come to pick me up with her car since we already had plans.

She looked a bit down.

Voranis: That's ok! It wouldn't be good to neglect your friends.

The answer I gave her was probably good since her mood seemed to improve.

Lorelei: Tell your friend to drive safely, ok? There are a lot of things going on these days so you girls should be careful.

Cynthia nodded then Lorelei turned to me.

Lorelei: That goes for you too Voranis.

I saluted.

Voranis: As you command!

We laughed a bit and we returned home a few minutes later.

Our timing was impeccable since the moment we arrived, a red car stopped by with it's window lowered.

A young woman around Cynthia's age with medium length black hair waved at us. More precisely, at Cynthia.

Cynthia: Oh, it looks like my friend is here! See you later Voranis! Bye grandma!

She quickly went to the passenger's seat.

?: Who's the hunk?

Asked Cynthia's friend making her cover her face with her hands.

Cynthia: Just drive and don't embarrass me please...

The woman's laugh was heard as she drove off.

Lorelei: Someone's popular with women.

She said while looking at me and then entered the house.

Voranis: How am I popular? I don't even have any friends besides you two and one more.

I quickly followed her inside.

Lorelei: You really haven't noticed the looks that the young women gave you back at the center?

(Back at the center? I did feel like I was being watched but I thought it was because I'm the new guy.)

Voranis: I um...I don't know what to tell you.

She laughed.

Lorelei: You'll definitely have to figure it out or you're going to have a lot of women troubles with that face of yours.

Voranis: Can you enlighten me about those 'women troubles'?

Lorelei: I can but what's the point? Life is meant to be lived and everything is better if it's experienced by yourself.

She grinned.

"Now she sounds like my father..."

Voranis: Alright, it doesn't sound that bad.

I didn't have anything to do all day so I spent some time looking for a cellphone through the internet, some training and a lot of meditation.

I don't know why, but I've noticed that ever since I became Terran, I've become more vulnerable to emotions. It's much easier for feelings of anger, rage, fear, happiness to overcome me.

That presents a danger to my surroundings, especially if my powers grow even stronger so meditation is important.

Today's meditation helpful for some reason. I grew a bit frustrated which was counterintuitive so I opted for a walk. That always helps.

After a bit of walking, I found a random bench, sat down and turned to look at the clouds. They were slowly moving here and there, taking random shapes.

"I wonder how are things back at home."

The image of Aiur popped in my head. The beautiful protoss architecture, the gorgeous sunsets and sunrises and also the hard but enjoyable training with my parents.

I closed my eyes and focused on that. That image, as vivid as possible.

"I can do it!"

I channelled my shadow energy and tried to do the same thing that brought me here.

I was feeling close to something when another sensation broke my concentration. Something like a wave or a pulse washed over me. It was weak in strength but heavy in significance.

"Someone noticed me and is trying to detect me!"

Without a second of hesitation I stood from the bench and took off in top speed. I didn't care if I ran much faster than a normal human, there weren't a lot of people here anyway.
